And I think we ended up with a Beginners guide from that IIRC

I'm playing as a thirteenth division club in the middle of the Amazon. I don't get a fuck about qualifying for the European nations pot. I am enjoying it though. I'd image not too, though I bet your trying your hardest with those lush boobed Amazonian women

This was my favourite comment made on the three pages of stupidity and some sense(not from the SI side) that I actually bothered to read

Aparently if you continue the demo, then the problems occur. If you start a new game, you only get new problems.

Speaking of which, I won my copy of CM00/01. 80p, with another £3 for postage. After conversion, about A$8.95 which is roughly the price I pay for lunch.
Bargain.

Can anyone offer any ideas why I'm not getting any player pictures? I've got "show real and generated staff pictures" selected, but everyone's just got a shadowy generic outline-thing.
Sigh.

Never mind, worked it out. So did you start without real players, Stu?

Sports Interactive really are a bunch of complete wankers. I totally disagree actually. Putting aside the fact that they continue to make the only football management game worth playing, they also release patches to fix problems with the game, where many developers won't bother. And how many other games companies have a forum where you can interact with the developers themselves, and implement users suggestions? Not quite sure what you expect of them, but I'd suggest you have overly high expectations if you think they (or anyone) can release a product that's bug free at the first attempt.

Aye, Ed, when the reaction of a high ranking member of staff is "haha! In your face pirate scum!" to a problem than can actually come about with a legitimate copy of the game, "wankers" is probably not the right word.
I still haven't forgiven them for binning the wibble/wobble.

To be fair, that comment wasn't what I was defending and I agree that this issue's not making them look too clever!. Maybe it IS something they've put in as an anti-piracy thing, but they obviously haven't done it very tidily.
I just think that overall, they're a pretty good bunch.

Many of the guys I used to know and like have now left...Miles has always been a bit of a twat though.
I think it probably was implemented as an anti-piracy thing, but they fucked up the version they stuck in the demo and that's carried on into the full version when you use a demo originating save. In typical SI fashion, their response has basically been "don't use saves from the demo then..." despite having previously claimed you could.
They could at least apologise for misleading people about how well the demo saves would work with the full legal version.
Stu - if you get a chance, can you take a look at the Euro 08 qualifiers? Will be interesting to see if the Daemon workaround triggers the pirate glitches, or if it's just the copy protection removal that does. Not that it matters all that much, apparently those stupidly smart programmers with the ethics of Ronnie Biggs have already got fixed .exe's with the piracy glitches fixed.
Shame SI can't fix their own glitches that fast really...

They don't release patches, that's a base slander.
They issue improvement knapsacks or somesuch, games by SI don't ever need patches as even Schrödinger could play them right away.

Enhancement. Because all your defenders attributes defaulting slowly to 1 after a season isn't a "game breaker" apparently.
I liked SI more when I could badmouth Sottrel personally to his face for being useless with the database.

To be honest this just reiterates the fact that Miles is as crap at his job as, well, I am at mine. In fact if he took the attitude to his job that I take to mine he'd probably come up looking better. I remember his attitude during the dot$ furore, which was basically to deny anything was wrong, and it took um, one of the other programming guys to stand up and say that there were "issues" with it.

Some sort of itch. There were some powders for it, hence "dot$".

What is this furore of which you speak? CM4 = DOT$ Unfortunately when it was released it was about 7 months late (late March I think, instead of traditional pre-Christmas), and had gone through a protracted "beta" and "gold" period. They assured us this was in order to iron out game engine issues/database issues/bugs. I think it was something like 4.70 they released. On the day of its actual market release (i.e. to the general public, in boxes, available in stores up and down the country) SI released its first "Enhancement Pack" for the game (taking it to 4.00). Everybody with the internet went "Woo!". Everybody without it went "eh? why doesn't my game work after the first year? Why is the schedule blank? Why are there no players in Italy? Why do all my defenders attributes drop to 0 after a few seasons? Why is the game engine like watching ping pong and utterly whored like a bitch to certain 'tactics' that render it not a challenge? Why does it take approximately 6 hours to progress a week, and why is the save game over 1GB?". 5 "enhancement packs" later the game was still pretty much a ballache to run. SI's response was to say the game was "playable out of the box" and that none of the issues experienced were "game breakers". What we subsequently discovered that CM0304 would be released in November, so basically SI refused point blank to further support CM4 and denied all knowledge of any issues, or blamed pirate copies, or the direction of the weather. CM0304 had basically almost entirely the same issues as CM4, plus some nice new ones. On the day of release...enhancement pack 1 was released too. This game took about another 5 or 6 "enhancements" and at the very end of its support life (in the July the next year) Miles and co were still denying that 90% of the things reported were actually taking place and/or "that bad". I haven't bought a single one of the games since CM0102 as a result - and I'm suspecting the same may be said for others on this forum, possibly for the same reasons. For the record, the below are the full list of fixes for DOT$ -spot the "not a game breaker" lies (particularly for patch 1, remembering this was released on the day the game was released too). DOT$ All the fixes in Enhancement Packs 1 and 2All the fixes in Enhancements Packs 3, 4 and 5None of them game breaking. Not even the 20 or so 'crash ones when doing such technical things as "searching for player" - some of which weren't fixed for 4 months. And of course not counting the stuff only eventually fixed in CM0304.

Do you know? I've bought every version of the game, ever. And I don't even remember these shenanigans!
I must have blotted them from my memory for psychological reasons, cos I wouldn't have been a happy bunny at the time...

Aye. The "out of the box" thing was a fiasco. So I found a way around it. I stopped getting the boxes.
