You and me both, Coffers. I just realised that that last draw, against Stafford, wasn't a bad effort as they've just come down from the Conference National. We really need to pick up on that away form, though. Maybe a more defensive outlook for the first half, to stop them picking up the early goal? Maybe lost one of the triangle up front, and put him in defensive midfield. Oh, that's right, we don't have any DMCs at the moment. Newcastle?

They have Nicky Butt. Want him?
Nice start though, Boony and you seem to be pleased with it, which is good news. I don't know if I can get any more coaches into margate, I'll try and have a look next time, but six coaches at a Conf Regional side seems a lot. You've done well to sneak those in, I reckon.

September 2007September started with another away loss, 1-0 at Nuneaton, but we then started picking up some form. Vauxhall were second in the league when they came to the International Athletics Stadium, and faced a very makeshift Gateshead defence - 3 injuries to our defenders meant we were down to our last four, including two left backs. So Gray moved to centreback and Giles made his first start of the season defending the left flank. Despite this, we managed to keep a clean sheet, but we failed to register at the other end as well, and the game finished 0-0. Having not scored for a couple of games, a change was needed as we went on another away trip, this time to Whitby. In the end, however, we were forced to change to a 4-4-2 as link-man Hutchison was out injured. Frank Quarm comes into the side on the right wing. In the 14th minute, Moore headed in a Proctor corner, and then the striker headed in a cross from Quarm to make it two in the 62nd minute. Our first away win of the season, and we've now kept two clean sheets in a row. Top side Southport then came to town, in a real humdinger of a match. We scored first, Quarm latching onto a pass from opposite winger Eagle, and that was the only scoring action in the first half. Southport equalised in the 66th minute, and four minutes later Proctor scored from a direct freekick - our first of the season. Southport responded once again, in the 77th, with a goal that looked vaguely offside. 2-2, and neither side could grab the equaliser, but I guess we'd take a point from the leaders... Unless, of course, television replays show that the final goal was blatantly offside. I criticised the referee after the game, and the FA found now grounds to punish me, staying "strangely silent" on the matter. I take that to mean that I was in the right, but they won't give me two points will they, the buggers... We rounded off the month by winning the first cup game of my career, an FA Cup 2nd qualifying round fixture away at Alfreton. Moore scored the first from Eagle, Briscoe makes it two in the second half off a rebound from a Quarm shot, while subsitute winger Robinson crosses from the right to Proctor, who slots in the third from 35 yards. All in all, not a bad month, but it would have been so much nicer had we beaten Southport. We're hardly setting this division alight at the moment, but we seemed to be more penetrating having moved to a 4-4-2. Quarm in particular had been playing pretty well, out on the right. This is bad news for 36 year old Don Hutchison, as he'd been marked down to play as a link man between the midfield and the attack. We shall have to see how the season pans out on that one, I guess. September 20072-2, and neither side could grab the equaliser, but I guess we'd take a point from the leaders... How can you equalise in a game that that is already standing at 2-2? ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Apart from that a decent enough month and well done on the FA Cup win. Bugger. It's clearly too early in the morning! At least it shows you're reading it, I guess :checkit:
Decent enough, aye, but we need to be up in the top half. For some reason the board and fans reckon we should be challenging this year, and not for the wooden spoon. Why they hired me, then, no-one knows...

Considering you started with them right before the start of the season I think you're doing well. It'll take a little while to see how all the players can do in games, and to highlight any gaping holes to fill. It seems that you've got the ideal man in Hutchinson to go in the hole if you're up against one of the tougher sides, or to make a difference when chasing a game late on.

October 2007Last year, October was where things fell apart completely, with three losses in three league games. It's an important time in the season - the initial sparring is over and it's time to settle into the long winter months. There is also the additional complication of the cup competitions kicking in. So, as I entered October, I was looking for a good month - cup competitions don't particularly bother me at this stage, although the revenue and confidence from winning games is nice. The main emphasis, though, must be on the league. Because of cup competitions, we only managed two league games during the month, but we won both of them. Yep, you heard me correctly. A visit to bottom club Droylsden was most profitable, as we came away with a 4-0 win tucked under our belts, while Hyde then came to town and were dispatched 2-0. Two for Moore, another for Proctor, Briscoe scored in both games, while Doyle headed in a Quarm corner to open things up against Hyde. This was the kind of form I was looking for, and indeed completed my best ever montly league record. 6 goals, six points, and not a goal conceded. Hurrah! Cups, as we all know, are for girls, but as I said earlier, they bring in handy revenue, and the confidence of winning a cuptie can work wonders in the league. Having beaten Alfreton in the 2nd qualifying round during September, we faced the visit of Guiseley. We didn't play to our best, and the game was decided by a Quarm freekick, passed to Eagle who finished with aplomb. 1-0 will do me, and it's good to see our wingers linking well. Our right back Cavanagh was man of the match, as he had been against Droylsden, which shows that performances are coming from all round the pitch. A very encouraging sign. We rounded off the month with the 4th qualifying round, against Scarborough. We'd been forced to revert to our 4-3-1-2 as Quarm was injured, so Don Hutchison returned to play in the hole. We opened the scoring with red-hot Luke Moore bashing the ball into the net, but Scarborough managed to equalise just after half time. We pushed the game, they time wasted, and they seemed the happier of the sides with the replay-inducing 1-1. Between the first game and the replay, the draw took place, meaning that we were playing for a home tie against the might of League One Stoke City. We also heard that our chairman is looking to leave imminently. Now, I knew he was looking to get out at the start of the season, so this came as no surprise, but I'm left to wonder what this means for my job. There are two extremes, I guess - either we get a stackload of money and I get to keep my job, or the new chairman comes in and replaces me with his own man. Or somewhere inbetween... We'll wait and see, and by no means is it certain yet, as these are still just rumours that the man is looking to sell. Anyway, there was a 4th qualifying round replay to contend with, as we went to Scarborough. There is only one goal from open play in the whole game, as the home team open the scoring in the 6th minute. Then we equalise with a Hutchison freekick - his first of the season, but Scarborough take it home with two penalties and a freekick to progress with a 4-1 kicking - our first kicking of the season, it has to be said. Hopefully Stoke will kick them in the next round. League record: P2 W2 D0 L0 F6 A0 Pts 6 ![](http://homepage.ntlworld.com/james.boon7/img/League%2020071031.png)

Aye, defensively sound apart from the 4-1 kicking at Scarborough in the cup. 3rd best defence in the league ain't too shabby, though.
The Scarborough mauling came after I dropped a centreback for scoring a 5 in the last game and having very low morale. I should have stuck with him, though, as his replacement conceded at least one of the penalties. Tricky...

If someone makes a solid bid to take over your club from the current chairman, then you'll be placed in a transfer embargo and won't be able to sign anyone until it's all done, one way or another. And I've seen with a couple of scottish clubs that it can take months of negotiation to complete.
Other than that it's a great update, although "Quarm Corner" sounds like something from Quantum Mechanics... especially if you say it in Hawkinge's ZX81 voice.

Well transfers aren't going to be a problem - I haven't signed anyone yet, and my scout has only come up with three possibles, all of whom require much more money to bring to the club than we currently have.
I'm also still waiting to hear from our new parent club, Newcastle, who haven't sent anything my way yet. It's been a good two months now...

Aberdeen did nothing for me the first season - but they are "more receptive" to loan offers, so you might have to go look yourself. I haven't yet had a loan offer declined by Aberdeen, although the players don't always want to move.
The second season, Aberdeen picked out a trio of players they wanted to send my way, but none of them wanted to come to Montrose.

Um, oops. There appears to have been a problem - when I came to play FM during lunch today, we were all set to play Scarborough in the FA Cup 4th round qualifier. Which was interesting. Something hadn't saved last night (more computer problems), and unfortunately, we beat Scarborough 4-0 just now. I assure you I'm no cheat, and I'm very surprised as normally when you quit the game without saving, it asks you to save it first, and I always choose "oh yeah, I forgot, I'm a dildo."
So, yeah. Apologies for that. Anyway, be beat Scarborough 4-0 (Eagle, Briscoe, Robinson and Hutchison all on target), and then beat Harrogate in the league game we would have played if it wasn't for the replay, 2-0 (Moore and sub winger Taylor.)
Eagle is injured for 2 months, but Taylor was man of the match against Harrogate, so it looks like we have a replacement.
Our league record was actually P3 W3 F8 A0 Pts 9, and the table is as in the post above (I overwrite the image file.)

I don't suppose there was another "problem" where you accidentally loaned Emre and Damien Duff from Newcastle's first team, was there?

Honestly, I have no idea how it happened. I wouldn't have written up the Scarborough games if I was going to cheat. I'm horrified by the whole thing, as it means you lot can all call me a cheat, even though I had no intention of doing so.
Bugger.

![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Boo, at least it's better than overwriting that game with another one, or finding out that you've forgot to save your game for ages and then the computer crashes losing everything; or your file gets corrupted :moop: It also goes to show how fickle the AI of the game is, and that saving, quiting and then reloading after this can turn a complete losing run into a winning run, while also the same thing can turn an winning run into a mediocre run. Which happened to my next season in charge of Lorca :moop: Your form is good, and you have much to build on thanks to the hedge your building to keep stray dogs out from your back yard. Now, all you've got to do is score a few more times and you'll be making yourself much happier.
