Don't pick Shaun Alexander in next year's fatnasty leagues - he's just been announced as the cover boy for the new Madden game.

I was reading the blurb on NFL.com when they put it this evening and I think I found out why EA are so horrendously wank:
"This years focus on the running game"
Well. Nice to know they're not standing still eh? Shall we take that they aren't doing anything else in the game to 'fix' it because it's deathly silent otherwise.

Well two years ago it was "Fear the D!" with the hitstick, then last year it was the vision cone nonsense. Now it's the running game. Of course, they could improve the game a thousand times over if they improved the AI running game.

They're saving that for Madden 2023.

Well two years ago it was "Fear the D!" with the hitstick, then last year it was the vision cone nonsense. Now it's the running game. Of course, they could improve the game a thousand times over if they improved the AI running game. Vision AND career mode. One of which was completely useless and the other...no wait, both of which were completely useless. The game itself was subject to the same problems as previous games - namely the 'AI' was cack on all fronts, open to exploits. And conversely it abused exploits on against you too. For instance I could play the game a thousand times and never get a punt-retun to go for more than 3 yards. Okay that was improved on 2005's ability to run a punt return home every kick nearly - but the complete absence of blocking on 2006 was a joke. Dropping catches was another pain in the arse, and silly cornerback AI on your own team. I could play a Cover2, 4 corners drop everyone into zone and then watch as they lobbed it over my flat footed corners who for some reason just couldn't read the path of the ball. Meanwhile on their defence I had to have a minimum of 10 yards space away from corners and safeties in order to make the ball stick because they either had miraculous 'sliding' players who'd manage to migrate 5 yards whilst standing still, or make the kind of diving bats away, or thumping hits to jostle the ball loose. The superslow release on your own QB, the inability for the pocket to 'hold up' even when you have the 5 best players in the game, the routinely amazing interceptions over the middle by MLB's (where my own managed maybe 4 in 20 career years) and amazingly gimpy way their WR could run away from your corners despite being slower according to their attributes (and vice versa how hard it was to outstrip their corners unless your guys were at least 10 clear points faster). Still, raping it for 50pts a game on All Madden I guess it has to cheat somehow. The draft thing was also daft - particularly when you'd be advised to take a rookie QB when you already had a 24 year old Pro-Bowl 4000 yard 32TD star - then would Boo you when you selected the 6'8 360lb superquick RT who would become the absolute rock for your running game. Must say I drafted some rather nice stars. Raymont Hayes, 6'5 240lbs TE who was as fast as a WR, great hands, superb blocking etc. I lived for the days I did Play-Action and watched as the foolish AI went into man-to-man leaving him to rocket past whichever turkey LB they had on him. Saying that though - it was hard to have a 'bust' on the game due to the lack of extra-curricular activities and mental fumblings you got with a game like CM.

The Texans should pick Mario Williams in the draft and the Colts should pick a linebacker. Although if DeAngelo Williams falls to 30, which surely he won't, we should probably pick him instead.
That is all.

askthecommish.com have Houston going for D'Brickashaw Ferguson, with Reggie Bush slipping to #4 with the Jets.
Bill Belicheck drafts a spatula and tries to convert him to a Free Safety

The latest draft I saw had the Pats taking Kamerion Wimbley, who surely has to have the stupidest name in professional sports history.

It is quite silly.
fanball are running a draft check on each team, they've just posted up the Pats one (they're running in draft order and we're #21, so they'll have to get the rest up sharpish to cram them all in before saturday morning). Anyway, they lead with the headline "Will the Patriots draft another Diet Pepsi Vending machine?" I'm not exactly sure what it means, to be honest, can someone assist?

Or did the Pats have something to do with a Pepsi commercial? I'm sure the Oracle will be along soon to guide us.

I wouldhave thought it actually has something to do with the kit colour being red/white/blue a la Pepsi. Vending machine probably alluding to the fact the Pats keep picking big blokes.
Maybe.

Some of the Pats have been involved in a Pepsi commerical I believe. I think I saw it once on the helmetball fatnasty page. But I could just be making things up. As is my wont.

And it's actually a funny commercial, because the Pepsi Machine never moves, thereby clocking a 40 time slightly faster than Antowaine Smith.
The other Pats commercial is slightly better, where Brady goes out for dinner with his credit card and the five layers of fraud protection on his credit card are played by his offensive linemen. This scrawny little fella trying to clone Brady's card gets laid the fuck out by Logan Mankins.
Anyway, Houston are playing hardball with Bush, because he wants a stupid amount of money - they'll either trade down, (unlikely), or draft Bush.
I think Williams goes second to the Saints, or, better yet, the Saints trade down to 4 with the Jets. The Jets take Leinart, Tennessee take Vince Young and the Saints take Williams at 4.
Green Bay go for AJ Hawk, the Niners take Vernon Davis, Oakland pick Jay Cutler, Buffalo nab Brick Ferguson, the Lions take Michael Huff and Arizona sit at 10, ready to pick a QB and find there's none left. This makes Denny Green angry and he asplodes. The Cardinals move to Mexico City and draft famous hispanic wrestler Rey Mysterio.
Or they pick Ernie Sims.
If the Saints stand at #2 then they take Mario Williams there, the Titans nab Leinart, NYJ take the Brick, Green Bay go for Hawk again, SF - Davis. Then, Oakland come on the clock, literally, as the non-stop coverage shows owner Al Davis stroking his stalk for a full 15 minutes before picking his poster boy, Vince Young.
Buffalo take Haloti Ngata, even though NT Brodrick Bunkley is still on the board, the Lions take Huff and Denny Green takes Jay Cutler for the Cards.

Having played FOF so much I forgot that you actually negotiate a salary with rookies. I thought that there were set value-ranges that you had to offer. Silly real life. Gah!

Bush's agents are asking for money that would be more likely to be offered to a #1 overall Quarterback, so Houston are pretending to be disinterested, because is Bush goes at #2 then the sort of money he can ask for is seriously dented.
Once Bush's expectations come down, Houston will pick him. Williams is the best defensive player on the board, but Bush is the best player on the board. He's just nasty.

Don't draft Ricky Williams either by the looks of things. A rather vindictive 1 year ban. Damned herbal remedies and yoga!

Well bloody hell.
I don't think the Saints can pass up on Bush, but I certainly think they'll now have four hundred trade offers on the table.
I think this is a very, very bad move on the part of the Texans and, obviously, I know more than they do. :cab:

Well that's made my day. Go Texans!
The Saints'll trade I'd have thought. They have needs all over the show, so if one of the lower lot are hopeful for a runningback then they might be able to fashion a leap. NY Jets for instance...

The Jets are trying to make the trade now - they need 800 "points" to switch #4 for #2 - #29 overall the Jets have is worth 650 points, I think, so it'll cost more than a switch plus the #29. I think the #97 overall will have to go in.
I think the Jets won't go for that though, finding it too expensive, so it'll be Bush to the Saints.
After that though, do the Titans go for Leinart's brains or Vince Young's physical ability? If the Titans take Leinart, then I see Young at #7 to Oakland. If the Titans take Young then I see Cutler at #7 with Leinart possibly at 10 to the Cards.
EDIT : Provided the Jets don't take Leinart at #4, which they shouldn't, really. But the fans will boo no matter who they pick, I'm sure.
