Well that was a kick in the guts that wasn't needed.
And that recruitment thing is a weird one at that too.

Yay! I've caught up! Again!
(I've no chance with Coffers' thread...)
This looks a very decent game, s1ut. How are you finding it? Is it gripping you by the nuts yet?
And how does the multi-player work? A bit like CM/FM, I guess? With endless "waiting..." for fat blokes to stop eating cake?

Yay! I've caught up! Again! This looks a very decent game, s1ut. How are you finding it? Is it gripping you by the nuts yet? And how does the multi-player work? A bit like CM/FM, I guess? With endless "waiting..." for fat blokes to stop eating cake? The multiplayer isn't "real time" - it's like Narkle's FOF game online. There's a set game day each week, by which you have to send in your coach file, (exported from within the game) with your depth charts, gameplans and so on. It's a very good game - everything is in more depth than TCY, but because 90% of the recruiting is split out to its own part of the season, it doesn't get out of hand. I'm in the haze at the moment where I don't know the team well enough, (I could probably name all 22 UCF starters off the top of my head), so it feels more deliberate right now, but it looks good. Of course, with any college game the recruiting is what makes it, so we'll see how that goes.

Would it be something that you would recommend to a newbie who might not be playing his current FM game for a while because the save file is becoming slow on his old PC?
And can you lend me: a) $30 for the game b)~£350 for a new PC box.
Thanks.

I think the biggest trouble you would have is with the play calling. The rest of it will be cake for someone who's used to juggling all the stuff that goes on in FM.
Picking a "system" is easy and the game tells you the pros and cons of each. You'll recognise the I Formation, Pro Set and Single Back, but the Veer, Wing T and Option will be new to you.
With the playcalling, you have a matrix to go through.
1. Field Position. 2. Score. 3. Tendency.
So for plays that happen between your 20 and [Field Goal Range], (a number you set), you might choose to pass 40% of the time and run 60%. Of that 60% you might choose 65% inside running and 35% outside. Of the 40% passing, you could split 20% screen, 48% short, 18% medium, 8% long and 6% very long.
With the field position set to inside your own 20, you'll probably run more, with more of those runs inside and when you pass you might actually increase the deep pass percentage to loosen up the defence a bit when you have so much field to play with.
Inside the opponent's 20 you might go ultra-safe to ensure you get at least a field goal every time you hit the red zone.
It sounds very complicated and it can really be as complicated as you'd like it to be, but once you get your head around it it's not that bad and it mostly common sense -
If you have a quarterback with good accuracy and no arm strength, then you'll want to throw short passes almost exclusively.
If you have receivers who have good hands but are slow, then you'll want to throw mostly short and medium range passes.
If you have fast receivers then you can go long a bit more.
If your Tackles are better run blockers than your guards then you'll raise the outside rushing percentage a bit.
Alternatively, you can press the big black "Suggest" button and let your coaches do all that for you. However, with recruiting split out to the off-season, rather than during the season like TCY, most of your work during the season is going to be gameplanning.
Of course, you can just play as a college GM and get through the seasons ultra-quickly and even I don't go into the game as deep as you can go (you can go into the games themselves and call every single play rather than let your percentages run the game for you), but if you skip it all together you may find the game a little thin.

Florida Atlantic 16 Troy 23Florida Atlantic 0 3 6 7 - 16 Louisiana Monroe 7 7 0 9 - 23 Oh shitcocks. We introduce another fine young prospect to Florida Atlantic in time to watch us lose our second game of the season. Troy are anticipated to win the SunBelt this season, but I'm still disappointed because our offence has died on its arse - We get just ten first downs here despite only turning the ball over once. The Trojans go into the break ahead 14-3 and then kick us to death in the second half as Lawrence Tracey kicks three field goals to run out to a 23-9 lead they hold until the last minute. We really need some injured players back. ScoringFirst Quarter TROY TD 07:35 7-0 David Collins 39 YD Pass from Rodney Mcneil (Lawrence Tracy Kick). Second Quarter FAU FG 05:44 7-3 Jonathan Johnson 37 YD TROY TD 00:15 14-3 David Collins 26 YD Pass from Rodney Mcneil (Lawrence Tracy Kick). 31+ ypr? I take it he's a big play kinda guy. Aye, he's got decent route running and slightly above average speed, but he also has a very high (90) work ethic, which means he makes the most of what he's got, or something. Prior to that game he was averaging about 11 yards a catch though, so that was a one-off performance.

Florida Atlantic 19 Arkansas State 16Florida Atlantic 7 3 3 0 (6) 19 Arkansas State 3 3 7 0 (3) 16 We invite in Cornerback Tim George for this matchup and he gets to see a nailbiter of a game that goes to overtime before it's settled when quarterback Irving Flores scrambles into the end zone for the touchdown that beats the Indians' overtime field goal and sends George home happy. The first four quarters are a scrappy affair which the Owls led 10-6 at the break thanks to a Flores-to-Munson scoring pass, but neither offence looks good and when Brendon Melendez slings the ball 35 yards to William Roush in the third quarter that ties the game at 13 and marks the end of the regular scoring. Both teams failed to score on their first overtime drive, but on the second ASU took the lead with a 42 yard field goal from Don Bender. This was the point where Flores took over, handing the ball to halfback Robert Yang a couple of times before suddenly finding himself in a 3rd and 9 at the ASU 14 - a third down he converted by arrowing a pass into double coverage between the ASU corner and free safety for an 11 yard completion to Chris Parks. Two plays later, after a stuffed run and a holding penalty on ASU moved the ball back and forwards, Flores takes the ball, drops back as if to pass and then runs the draw up the middle into the end zone untouched for the win. NotesFlores' 16 completions were a personal best. Parks now has 500 career receiving yards. ScoringFirst Quarter ARKS FG 05:13 3-0 Don Bender 41 YD FAU TD 01:49 7-3 Kenny Munson 11 YD Pass from Irving Flores (Jonathan Johnson Kick). Overtime ARKS FG - 16-13 Don Bender 42 YD FAU TD - 19-16 Irving Flores 4 YD Run Game MVPThe panel give the MVP to quarterback Flores for his 169 yards and a touchdown passing, combined with 55 yards and a touchdown rushing. Florida Atlantic 13 Toledo 31Florida Atlantic 0 10 3 0 - 13 Toledo 3 7 0 21 - 31 Toledo have the 14th ranked defence in the country and it shows here as our defence keeps us in the game until the end when the fatigue kicks in and they collapse to allow three touchdowns. We go into the fourth quarter with a three point lead thanks to two John Johnson field goals and a touchdown pass from Irving Flores to Fullback David Barkley. But then Rocket Quarterback Thomas Blackmon then shreds our defence and ends up with the game's MVP award. NotesIrving Flores broke through 1500 career passing yards. Florida Atlantic 23 Central Michigan 29Florida Atlantic 0 7 10 6 - 23 Central Michigan 7 0 7 15 - 29 We're desperately scrabbling around for a win from anywhere and when we're ahead 23-14 with four minutes to play I'm beginning to get some hope, but then it falls apart as halfback John Crews scores on the ground and then grabs a long touchdown pass to win the game for the Chippewas. We'd held Crews in check almost all day as he finished with 43 yards on 27 carries, while our back; Robert Lang, exploded for 112 yards on 26 carries - his second best single game performance. Injuries picked up at offensive tackle mean that I'm probably in for a very lean spell now. My first, second and third string tackles are now all injured and the fourth string is on academic suspension, so I'm going to end up with lawn chairs at the bookend spots on my offensive line. ScoringFirst Quarter CMU TD 01:50 7-0 Dennis Rivera 1 YD Pass from Ty Mcginnis (Gary Cooper Kick). CMU TD 00:40 29-23 John Crews 31 YD Pass from Ty Mcginnis (2 Pts - John Crews Run) Game MVPAn easy one here, as I give my award to receiver Chris Parks who grabs five catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Florida Atlantic 0 Louisiana Lafayette 27Florida Atlantic 0 0 0 0 - 0 Central Michigan 7 9 8 3 - 27 So I invite in an interested cornerback to watch this game and then have to sit for three uncomfortable hours next to someone who wants to be there less and less. It's like every date I've been on. So rather than stretch that out, let's just look at some stats, shall we? First downs : Louisiana 20, FAU 5. Passes : Louisiana 15 completions of 28 attempts. FAU 5 of 20. Total Plays : Louisiana 84, FAU 54. Time of Possession : Louisiana 38:10, FAU 21:50. The end result is that the "Ragin Cajuns" outgain us in nett yards by 372 to 50. Fifty. Needless to say, my date doesn't want to see me again. ScoringFirst Quarter ULL TD 05:14 7-0 Alex Patterson 2 YD Run (Nathan Martin Kick). Second Quarter ULL FG 14:43 10-0 Nathan Martin 28 YD ULL FG 07:47 13-0 Nathan Martin 33 YD ULL FG 03:00 16-0 Nathan Martin 28 YD Third Quarter ULL FG 06:45 19-0 Nathan Martin 19 YD ULL SAF 05:25 21-0 Tony Cardenas sacked Irving Flores in the end zone for a safety. ULL FG 01:31 24-0 Nathan Martin 43 YD Fourth Quarter ULL FG 09:00 27-0 Nathan Martin 30 YD Game MVPPolishing a turd somewhat, but I'll give my MVP to linebacker Richard Snider for four tackles, three assists, a sack, a pass defenced and an interception. Injuries![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Probable : Malcolm Howe - HB - Pulled Back Muscle. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Probable : William Armstrong - FB - Strained Oblique. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Probable : Woodrow Woodall - G - Bruised Kidney. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Questionable : Dennis Hardy - FS - Quadricep Pull. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Questionable : Joseph Bowen - SS - Hamstring Pull. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Questionable : Marvin Murphy - OT - Elbow Bone Chips. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Questionable : David Garcia - OT - Bruised Tail Bone. ![](http://www.theage.com.au/images/icon/icon_injury.gif) Questionable : Jorge Fowler - OT - Groin Pull. = = = Well, we opened 4-0 and now we're 5-5 with five defeats in the last six games and four in a row. The academic suspensions caught me by surprise as they don't happen until the off season in TCY, but mostly it's the injuries - we have less than zero depth and every injury hurts as a result. We wouldn't be a very good team with all of our starters in place. This past game the coach suggested, when asked, that we start a Tight End at the right Tackle spot, because of our four injuries. I'm looking forward to the end of the season now.

I'm just scared that my recruiting seasson is going to be very poor, because I don't know what I'm doing, which is going to ruin us next season. The players aren't good - most of the good ones are leaving. If I don't bring in some good players and have to rely on walk ons, I'm totally, totally forked.

Florida Atlantic 15 Rutgers 22Florida Atlantic 0 6 6 3 - 15 Rutgers 7 0 0 15 - 22 Oh kill me now. With the scores tied at 15 we're driving into Rutgers' territory with time rapidly running out when Irving Flores throws an interception to Refugio Croft and he returns it for the winning touchdown with 00:00 showing on the clock. We got a respectable game out of Reggie Yang, who gained 79 yards on 22 carries, but the rest of the offence was average at best.
