I watched some films lately.
The Constant Gardener Bit of nonce-ness, really. Ralph Fiennes plays his patented "sorry, what?" character- clueless and pathetic, in a political conspiracy thriller that bored the tits off me. Rachel Weisz is good, though.
Aeon Flux Pure, unadulterated pish. With no saving grace of Charlize Theron.
The Weather Man Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine. Just so you know which pile of monkey wank to avoid.
See No Evil, Hear No Evil[/u] Yes, the Pryor/Wilder. Not quite as sharp as Stir Crazy, and not quite as funny as I remember, but fun.
O Brother Where Art Thou? Second time round it's classier and funnier.
Batman Begins[/u] Really enjoyed it. Really really. And Liam Neeson has the coolest moustache in filmland and I would get one if it wouldn't be followed by immediate divorce proceedings.
The Life Aquatic[/u] Another I really enjoyed, but couldn't begin to explain why. Probably Bill Murray.
And there's a new series of Green Wing.
The Gods of Telly are kind.

Green Wing is funny, I agree.
Film-wise, i have watched nothing this year. Absolutely nothing. Unless you can count a Higgledy House omnibus on CBeebies.
Hmmmm.... Sarah Jane....
Anyhoo, I received the Any Which Way But Loose/You Can DVD ensemble a couple of weeks ago and fancy watching that soon. Oh and i got The Whicker Man in a newspaper one weekend a month ago, which I have never seen. I heard it's good and a very good reflection on Scottish islands. Can anyone confirm this?

N.n.n.n..n.n.n.n.n.never seen the Wicker Man? For shame. It's one of my top ten films ever ever. It's brulliant.
Christopher Lee's finest hour, Count Dooku and Saruman included.
Very good reflection on Scottish island life? Ish.
Wanna see my maypole?

It's one of those films I have always wanted to see, but have always flicked the TV over to see that I have missed the first twenty minutes or so. I can't watch a film that has already started, I simply have to watch the lot or nothing at all. So when I saw this DVD free, I simply had to buy the paper. And yes, it was the Grauniad.
I'll get back to you on wanting to see your maypole. I fear that it may not be in my best interests.

I can't watch anything if I miss the first five minutes.
And I can't watch a series if I miss the first episode or the pilot.
Just a foible.

Maybe this is the one combining feature of divots across the world. The grail of Divotdom..... wow.
Bet Narc spoils it by saying he doesn't mind missing ten minutes.

Depends on the film/series really doesn't it. I think anyone who says they can't watch Life of Brian for the first time because they miss the opening 10 minutes is being a bit of a precious.
I have to admit that I couldn't watch 24 or Lost having missed the opening episodes. But I attribute that to them being pish rather than anything else. If everyone thought like you there'd be no Coronation Street or EastEnders anymore. Which, admittedly, would be a good thing.
Anyway, I'm not really a divot so I don't spoil anything.

I didn't include stuff I've seen before. Sorry, didn't give parameters enough.
Is there such a thing as a divot anymore?
Reading Mobius Dick at the moment, so everything is quantum.

Oh, and Life Aquatic wins hands down in the Best Use of A Song In a Film so far this year.
"Staralfur"- could have been written for the scene where it's played.

Lost and 24 are easy to catch up with, what with half the show being a series of flashbacks at the beginning tell you what last happened on 24/Lost.
Combining the two shows...hmm, now there's a thought. Keifer Sutherland stranded on a desert island with some beastie roaming around, shouting, doing combat rolls and moaning about Charlie on the wire. Or something.
Still wouldn't watch it.
Would watch Green Wing. "My Daddy died" and subsequent thrashing of a match box had me tickled, but not as much as the whole Coma dream sequence.

He's great in it, but then I liked him in Jam and whatever else he was in. Boyce makes me laugh too, his Tainted Love sequence was genius.

I got Series 1 and 2 on dvd for me birthday. The cat and mouse crack me up still, years after they were on telly. Love it.
He was the cat, I think. With Kevin Eldon the Actor playing the mouse.

Movies? Yes please.
I've just been handed the first Ice Age movie on tape (remember them?) so that I can watch the illegally obtained Ice Age 2 without asking 'who's that fella?' everytime a new type of icey animal™ appears on screen. Plus I've been told it's good.
The last good (well, amazingly brilliant) film I watched was Tsotsi. South African, subtitled, won an Oscar, it's about a gangleader type fella in South Africa <-- all you need to know. Oh, and that you should watch it, offcourse.
The last crappy beyond belief film I watched was The Matadar, starring a moustached (kinda like myself) Pierce Brosnan as a hitman. My mum, of all people. told me it was brilliant. It was boring, and seemed a lot like a spoof of a "real" hitman stylee film. Bret the Hitman Hart > Pierce Brosnan, albeit a moustached one.
Imagine Bret Hart with a 'tache.
As for another good film I watched, the low budget yet ever so fantastic Niagara Motel. It's about soime people in a motel and, er, that's it.
I also watched Rent, or should that be Reeeeeeeeeent *jazz hands*, which is a crappy musical, as expected. Gayness gone wild.

Gone wild, you say? I mean errr....
Ice Age is funny, I took the bairn to see that one ages ago, haven't seen the second one yet, but I have no doubt that I will.

I just finished a book that genuinely left me perplexed. Because I was too thick to understand it, I think. Either that, or I don't have a degree in quantum mechanics.
Mobius Dick- so disappointingly perplexing that I didn't even understand the last "sum it up in layman's terms for the hard of comprehending" chapter.
Shame. Had some good characters.
Now ploughing into The Alchemist.

You've cunningly changed the thread title. Cunning. No room for music in this one? Or does that warrant another thread?
Might as well bung it all in the same place.
So in the car, i was listening to The Joy Of Sing Sing which I haven't heard in a while, maybe a year or so. Kinda Dubstar meets Saint Etienne. Kinda, but not quite. I think they used to be in a band called Velocette from the 90s, but that might be me making it up.
Next up was Bizarro by The Weddoes and what an album that is. For too long I have neglected Bizarro (and the others) in favour of George Best. No longer. Track 9 "Take Me" is fantastic. I should listen to the Wedding Present more often.

I should listen to the Wedding Present more often. A woe I have recently rectified mostly, though as you say, I have stuck to George Best, with Seamonsters and Take Fountain thrown in for good measure. Need to branch out to Bizarro and Saturnalia. Listened to a lot of Cinerama lately. It's so clearly David Gedge when he's a bit happier. Even with orchestras in some bits. Some good solid songs in there too- loving 'Heels', 'King's Cross', 'Apres Ski' and 'Gina Lollobridgida' for a handful. Also completely obssessed at the moment by 'Staralfur', since seeing it used in the Life Aquatic. I only have one Sigur Ros album and have decided I need more. Other joys have been the O Brother soundtrack again- the Soggy Bottom Boys rule. And Nina Simone- ' I put a spell on you'- great song. I have been very randomly listening lately. And it is massive fun. QOTSA have figured quite a lot, as have the Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters. So what's new.
