I had a mate from Barrow-in-Furness who'd moved to Bedford. I think that says a lot. I had a mate at college who was from there, I've had a few decent nights out in the town and have flown a glider from the airfield at Walney Island, which is the very last bit that juts out into the sea.

Given one or two of the nights out that I experienced there you might be right.

FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round day came around fast:
Barrow 2 vs 0 Fisher More progression courtesy of a 13th minute Mark Harwood header from a Dawe corner. The game was pretty awful by all accounts, I can't remember I fell asleep. The game was wrapped up in the 80th minute when Right Back Danny Vaughen sliced a cross and it flew into the net, past a surprised keeper. The win gives us a nice progression bonus of £10k plus the chance of a tie against league opposition in the 1st round proper. Cups might be for girls, but they are raking in some nice prize money at the moment.
As I said we had a chance to meet League opposition in the 1st round proper, that comes in the shape of an away trip to Wycombe Wanderers who are currently bottom of League Two. The cash cow could end here.

Wycombe - the team of death to all GR teams in England, it seems. s1ugt's been having some problems with them too.
You'll beat them, no hassles, though. :moop:

Back to the league and Droylsden were the visitors:
Barrow 2 vs 0 Droylsden Another 2-0 this is getting very predictable, no doubt things will change soon. Droylsden played well but our defence was resolute. Mark Harwood again opened the scoring on 43 with a far post strike following a Jonathan Dawe corner, it was his 5th goal of teh season. Jonathan Smith completed the onion bag planting in the 80th minute finishing off a well worked move from 22 yards. The attendances are pretty decent for this level and are currently averaging around 1800 to 1900 mark for our home games. That's a lot better than the first two or three home games.
Reditch 1 vs 1 Barrow The prediction failed, we were awful in the first half and even worse in the second. Reditch wanted the game and it showed. The finally took the lead after 69 minutes, a long ball to the back post no one picked up the incoming winger and bang, we were 1-0 down and it was no more than we deserved. Tictac changes: play wider, with faster shorter passing and we started to get a toe hold. On 84 Moller lamped in a shot from the left corner of the box and we were back on level terms. Reditch redoubled their efofrts to find another goal, but it didn't come.
Stafford won, so if they win their game in hand on us we will drop to 2nd. The media thought 1-1 was fair, I thought we were lucky.
The FA Cup run helped generate a £26.75k profit for October. The board are pleased with progress so far

Wycombe W. 3 vs 1 Barrow 9 minutes in, our keeper, Rose, barges a forward over and Wycombe are 1-0 up from the spot, they pulverise us and add a second on 20, we're sinking without trace, but hold on to the break. Rose gets a blast others are encouraged and it works, we stem the tide. On 60 I send on two subs and shout; faster, shorter, wider! On 63 we're back in the game as Harwood slots in from a neat through ball by substitute Guerin. We're dictating play at this point then with 6 minutes left Rose, mis-controls a long back-pass from Moller and it's 3-1, game set and match. Rose is hauled off to save further blushes. We're out of the Cup but overall it was a brave effort, Rose apart that is. The media claim I'm building success off the back of our defence, that wasn't apparent in the last game though. In a surprise move after the game Wycombe sack their manager, I know they were bottom of their division, but the beating of Barrow might have turned their season around, if it's that bad why wait until after the cup game? Oh Hum.

Fucking Wycombe.
I hope they don't get out of the conference this year for me, even though I'll have to face them again, as they're likely to bankrupt themselves the way they spend money.

Barrow 2 vs 0 Northwich Victoria For all their possession Northwich did nothing of note to deserve any points in this game. Barrows goals came from 2 first half near post eaders, the first from Harwood on 15 and the second from Peter White on 41. We could have had more in the second half but for their keeper. Another 2-0, another 3 points. Stafford drew again and now we have a 3 point lead and we've both played the same number of games. Northwich are 4th. Efficient is what the rags called the performance.

FA Trophy 1st Round:
Durham 2 vs 1 Barrow A shocking result we started well enough opening the scoring on 14 minutes, when Centre back Lee Black stuck out a boot and diverted a free kick into the Durham net. We didn't manage another shot on target after that. Durham equalised on 27 and scored the winner from the spot on 41. Tongue lashings all round both at the break and at full time. Embarrassing it was, truely embarrassing. Durham will travel to Leek Town in the 2nd Round.

Back to the League and an away trip to in form Moor Green who are based in Solihul.
Moor Green 0 vs 2 Barrow The score doesn't reflect how close the game was, Moor green started well and had us on the back foot for long periods, thankfully their shooting was woeful. Mattias Moller opened the scoring for us with a penalty after 87 minutes. The ref should have allowed the advantage we scored anyway. The second goal came on 89, a deep cross was headed in by Stuart Miller with the keeper stranded from a poor clearence from near the corner flag. Who cares about cups? There's a league to win.
The media claim we were lucky, I have to agree with them on that one, but the unbeaten league run is maintained.

New coaches are employed to boost training in Aerobics, Ball Control, Set pieces and shooting, a reshuffle of duties boosts Defending to 4 stars, all other categories are on 3 stars except for set pieces which is only on 2. 33yo D/WB/RC David Challinor is offloaded to Frickley on the promise of us receiving 10% of any future transfer fee. He was on £1,000 per month so the drop in the wage bill more than covers that of the new coaches, who were hired at £160 per month each. Barrow 0 vs 0 Gainsborough An atrocious game, Gainsborough were down to 10 men by the 34th minute and just packed the defence, they didn't manage one attempt at goal, We on the other hand played like England, but worse. Thankfully Stafford drew at home so we maintain a 3 point gap at the top. delighted board announced a £41,910 profit for November. More new arrivals boost the training levels, now set piece training is up to 3 stars, plus the arrival of a new Ass-Man means that the old one leaves with a £4k pay-off, he had 2.5 years left on his contract at £300 per month and was useless. The new Ass-Man costs £160 per month and is capable of training at 3 stars in any discipline. Barrow 0 vs 0 Vauxhall Motors Another god awful display in the attacking stakes. Has a corner been turned, the wrong sort of corner? Vauxhall were in 20th place at the start of the game and remain there at the end. We totally dominate the game but have forgotten how to score, so we now have a 4 point advantage on Stafford, but they didn't play so they have a game in hand. Stafford and Worksop won their games in hand so are both now only 1 point behind Barrow.

Barrow 1 vs 0 Kettering Barrow dominate but a single goal was all that separated the sides, that came from a Jonathan Smith strike that took a wicked deflection off a defender, 3 minutes before the break. Worksop (our next opponents away) drew and Stafford lost so we have a bit of a cushion at the top again. I've started looking for some loan players with decent potential, I may be aiming too high in some of my targets, but it's worth a shot. Worksop 1 vs 2 Barrow Worksop totally dominated the first half but had nothing to show for it at the break. Within three minutes of the restart Barrow are in front as Ben Quinn slips the ball inside the right post after taking a pass from Stuart Miller. Worksop up the tempo and create an equaliser on 70, we had tried to sit on the lead and it failed. On went a couple of subs and tictacs were changed. On 77, Miller played a one-two with substitute Bailey in the centre circle, then stormed through the middle into the area and blasted a shot inside the left post for the winner. We seem to play better against the better teams. Top striker Mark Harwood will be out for 2 months following an injury sustained during the previous game. It's a blow but I hope to land a loan signing soon, that hope soon disappears out of the window as my lofty ambitions are left in tatters by rejection after rejection. Leigh RMI 0 vs 1 Barrow Boxing Day witnesses a very poor match that could have gone either way. Luckily it went our way due to a 53rd minute Ben Quinn strike at the near post after Jonathan Dawe had crossed low and hard. A delighted board reported a £3,510 profit for December.

I think at this level scoring goals is a matter of luck and defensive lapses. I've started looking around for potential Bosmans for next season, if I switch on the option for the Ass-Man to filter out unrealistic targets the list is empty, however switching that option off gives a long list from which none of the players want to join us. :moop:

Hucknall 1 vs 3 Barrow At last we score more than two goals in a game. In a poor first half we were the better team and took the lead on 34, our left back Wilkinson swung in a cross to the edge of the box and Dawe was the only one to react, his shot hit the keeper and bounced into the net, giving us a 1-0 lead at the break. Don't get careless I said, so we did, 4 minutes into the second period, Hucknall equalised with a 25 yard free kick. Faster, shorter, wider I shouted and sent on a sub, Andrew Bailey. It was Bailey's near post cross from a free kick that gave us our second, Moller heading in strongly on 69. Moller wrapped the game up from the spot on 87 after a blatant Hucknall handball in the area. The bad news is that another striker was injured during the game, Ben Quinn was carried off with a hip injury on 37 and will need a 3 month course with a specialist before he is ready to play again. Other results went our way, so we now have a 6 point advantage on 2nd placed Worksop. We now have 2 days to recover before the next game, a home game against Stalybridge Celtic.

Yes, you get no players even when you've not asked your ass man to filter out the candidates that wnat to join.
Ok, so who wants to join? Hang on, where's my list? That is your list. Oh.
I'm sure Coffs seen that in Iceland.

I did to some extent in Iceland, but because I had all the Scandi leagues running down to the lowest levels, there were a fair few reasonable Scandilanders willing to join the Fjolnir revolution. At the moment this seems to be the worst I've experienced, there are players who will probably join, but they look worse than what we have already.
As for the scouts, they are finding complete and utter garbage, apart from the guy assigned to Scandiland, he found a few decent players, most can't get a work permit, one signed for us Mattias Moller and the others just were not interested.
