I didn't know that. What with me loitering around the middle of the table.
I mistook it for a buffet.

DC - thanks for loaning all those players back. They're mostly shite. We now have 14 players who can play up front and as I only ever play a 4-4-2, i might struggle to rotate them satisfactorily.
Plank.

With the season almost upon us, we have one more friendly to go and after forgetting that the AssMan doesn't arrange them for you in 00-01, there's been three in 9 days, which means the players are fooked.
:beaker:
My predecessors have acquired a lot of defenders, certainly more than I thought they would, most of them decent too. The attacking options are more in line with a five man midfield, which isn't what I normally play, so I might have to tweak a bit away from a formation I'm comfortable with, which isn't ideal.
Basically our mission this season is to stay up. Now because it's a three year rolling average table that relegation is concerned with, I need to target the teams that are at the bottom end of that table and take points away from them. The likes of Banfield who have spent a fortune and the usual powerhouses of Boca and River Plate aren't going to be worried by us, but it might mean that goal difference could be important, although I'll have to check the league rules for that.
I might have to play with two formations this season. An attacking 4-4-2 for the teams I think I can nick points from and a defensive sweeper system to try and bore the stronger teams into a coma and then counter late in the game.
More details later, I would suspect after the Toon cup game.

Disturbingly, Judge Pickles was the best defender I had for a whole year.
Fist was ok too, for the five minutes every other month that he wasn't injured.

How did you manage to get Magic Hat back? He was all set for a transfer. I hope they ran out of money :humb:
At Long Last and Fantango are supoib ,and Swwwwweeet looks a bit pish but plays a blinder (even if he is the most useless position in the world unless you play Arrowhead - sorry).
And you have actual transfer funds? You lucky, lucky bastard. I could have bought the world with that £160k

Aye transfer fell through for Magic Hat.
I tried to sign people for money, but nada. I'm going to have to target the "bottom three" and cross fingers.

Ah well, keep scouting Shandiland. A couple of players came up, mostly shoite, but we got our centrehalf from up there, and there must be players in Europe - if not in Belgium.

Dave, sorry, I missed that. Players from where again? Moo, nice start on the transfer side. How many players do we actually have? It seems llike other teams own them so we can play them. Sounds fair

I played two games last night, but because I haven't done the squad list yet, I won't tell you about the draw and loss until after I've told you who contributed.

Before we know who to kill, we have to know who to kill. I shall smoke a kipper, and find a towel while downing 5 pints in 10 minutes or such. Just to fill in time you see.

August 2002We finally managed to get a DC on loan, 20 yo Capped Brat who I like a lot. Before that though we managed to draw our first game 0-0 at home to Belgrano, then lose our first away game 2-0 to Newell's. In other news, Belgium were guided to a good 4-0 away win at Azerbaijan, to top the group after one game. Stu's suggestion was to do a squad list position by position every month, but I can't be arsed. And also because only nine of the first team squad aren't named above and belong to us. September 2002 (pt 1)Belgium scraped a 0-0 home draw with Finland. Disappointing in one way after scoring four goals in the last game, but we weren't in any real trouble.

Do a squad listing or I'm boycotting this thread! A listing of the average points table at the start of the season (or now) would be sweet too. Lzy pantfish.

September 2002 (pt 2)
A good month for San Miguel with three wins and two defeats rocketing us up to 10th in the table. More importantly, 10 points from 7 games gives us an average of 1.429taking us to a healthy 11th of 20. Colon, who we'd just beaten were rooted at the bottom. The other teams I was targetting for points are Central, Chacarita, Banfield and Platense. Central had beaten us this season and our first game in October was against Platnse who had been promoted with us.

October
Belgium ended the year of competitive internationals with a 1-0 win at NornIron and then a 1-1 draw at home to Spain. Basically, we've won both away games and drawn both home ones. Our next game is Portugal in a friendly, and then Malta at home in March.
Onto San Miguel and it wasn't a great month. Defeats to Platense and Huracan and a lucky draw with a poor Independiente made me more than a bit nervous. Admitedly, star striker Wrong Number has been out all month, but still, there were some poor performances all around. Chacarita put up a brave fight in losing 2-1 at our place and we were mauled away at River, even though it was 1-0 to the home side. That the leagues have no GD rules to speak of is a shame, because that could have been one of those 4 or 5 goal swings.
At the end of the month, we're 15th in the Opening Stage with a 4-2-6 11/13 record and currently 16th of 20 in the averages. Close.

November 2002
Belgium had one game this month, a cracking 5-4 defeat to a very strong Portugal.Ben Makanga Mbema right got MoM for the three goals he scored and general excellent play.
San Miguel had a nightmare though. no goals in the four games and a 0-0 draw saving our blushes of a whitewash. We've scored just 2 goals in 9 games, both of those in a 2-1 win in October. We've got to get at least four points out of our remaining three games in the Apertura, or we'll be likely goosed in the Closura, fighting to get our average up.
