The influx of players is now drying up and the trialists I'm interested in are steadfastly refusing any offers I am willing to make. Given the wage bill and the fact that Sings Like A Pig is refusing to sign for at least another season after the current one, I've decided to FAX his details to all and Sundry at £66k plus extras.
We spend the week preparing fro an away trip to Unai a non league club, whom we should expect to beat easily. I opt for the normal line up and wait for offers to come in for Sings Like A Pig. With the coaches instructed in their duties and what to expect from Unai, I decide it's time to take a look around the warehouse that has attracted my attention over the last few weeks. That particular exercise proves to be a waste of time as everything is locked up and there are no signs of life.
reflecting back on Cigar Man's comments regarding making a killing, I take time out to check on the clubs finances but can find nothing in the books that would suggest a sudden influx of cash coming into the club. That just serves to fuel my curiosity, but quite what I'm going to do about it is beyond me at this point, as Cigar man hasn't been forthcoming on the matter in any shape or form.
Maybe I should just get my head down and concentrate of footballing matters, I'm sure that will be the best course of action, but you know when things niggle away at you, you somehow just can't let go.
But for the time being I had to let go, we had another game on the horizon and had to bounce back from a heavy defeat......

It's interesting but I'm not getting a lot of time or inspitation for updating the story at the moment. I'm about 4 games ahead to the story so far. As I said before, it will be a slow one. The pissed off bit is the sudden realisation that I've signed too many players way too early in the day. IT hasn't left a lot of room for manouver in the early years. I didn't realise that so many would be released from contracts this early in the season.

This thread may just be getting resurrected in the near future. I'll probably have to read it all back through to see where I was up to and what line I want the story to take if it is resurrected.

FM06 stories with a year long break in the middle are the best kind!

FM06 stories with a year long break in the middle are the best kind! It doesn't seem like that long since I left it in limbo, it was always my intention to return it just seems other things took priority. I hope I'm not going to be like Pops and have no time at all for games playing.

I made a start last night, I transferred the save game from my old works laptop onto my external hard disk. so it can be used from home or work, then found neither of the laptops I use have FM2006 loaded. My home PC has FM2007 loaded which I've never actually played/used. So loading FM2006 is a job for another day, probably tomorrow night.

So nex up was an away trip to SE Unai Itapua, I didn't notice anything untoward in the warehouse district as the Team Bus left the ground, despite the defeat at Brasiliense the previous weeks the team wer ein high spirits but I was issuing warningas about complacency. We lined up in our familiar formation with Train Of Thought and Hello Campers up front.
Goodbye Silver Lining, Age Of Toes and Nil By Mouth were strung across the middle and Board and Lodge took the holding role. The defence consisted of Andrex Glow, Linoleum Ceiling, Cuppa Rosie Lee and Rubber Watch, all surely capabale of holding out a non-league club. Child's Play started in goal. It was an interesting start as Goodbye Silver Lining was yellow carded after only 2 minutes and Rubber Watch Saw yellow on 5 minutes, I think the ref had our card marked. However things settled after that and we soon started to press and press and press. We got the break through on 24 minutes when Linoleum Ceiling headed a goal kick back upfield, towards Age Of Toes. Toes got onto teh ball and as he bore down on Goal he unleashed a 25 yard curler into the net, deceiving the keeper all ends up. Board & Lodge collected a yellow on 33 as we started to build momentum again. Finally on 39 Nil By Mouth was held back near the box and Age Of Toes foloated a free kick towards Board And Lodge. the kick eluded everyone and floated into the net to give us a 2 goal lead. We finished the half pressing for more golas but none came. The second period was more of teh same lots, of Paranoa attacking, interspersed with the odd Unai break, but no one could add to the goals total. We ran out 2-0 winners, it would have been nice to score more but 3 points is 3 points.
Cigar Man was strangely absent today, so maybe we should enjoy the moment. But there was a nagging worry at the back of my head. It's always there, I just don't trust our chairman and I cannot put my finger on what he is up to.
Age Of Toes took the plaudits for the day but it has to be said the everyones performance was solid.

That and the next 4 games were already played just not reported on. I've had to unload FM2006 from my works computer as they have just loaded a tool to check what is installed on the PC's & laptops, supposedly to check that unlicensed stuff isn't installed, but who knows what else they will check on.
I may have to unload stuff off my old works laptop and use that, offline and report via this if I'm to do updates from work.
The story line may get nerfed while I catch up the reports but hopefully I'll get back into it during the period between the State Championships and the National Div 3 games.

I've had allsorts of issues reinstalling this on my old works laptop, there are some strange things appearing in the header windows when I run the program and now the save file isn't opening. I'll have to retry on my home PC, where I have a backup of the save file, to see if I get the same problems.
