That's the way to rebound from how the last season ended.

SEPTEMBER 2006How did the month go? Not so bad actually. After beating Real Marcianase 2-0 at the end of August we got off to a dodgy start in our second game away to Brindisi, trailing 2-1 at the break before some tea cup throwing sorted things out and we exploded for three second half goals and a 4-2 win. That was our last real challenge in Serie C, as we won 3-0 against San Marino, crushed Cervia 7-1 and then rounded out the month with 2-0 and 5-0 wins over Fano and Potenza. All of this was with an injured team too, as we lost both starting fullbacks, a starter and reserve DC, (forcing us to play Midfielder Russell Harty at DC), and three of our six forwards. With a very thing squad I let the cup games suffer, trying to avoid even closing down and forward runs to try to keep our player's fitness up and as a result we lost our last game of the group stage, 0-1 at Pro Vasto and snuck through to the next round in third place thanks to our good start. Cat Stevens had issues this month too as he put in a string of three straight 6/10 match ratings, so I phoned up the local newspaper and called Stevens a pantfish. He told me he'd tried harder as a result - in the next game his profligate finishing continued, as he got only one shot out of seven on target, but that one was a 25 yard volley into the top corner. :cab: While Stevens was struggling, original Latina man Gennaro Marasco was spanking in goals like they were going out of fashion, including four against Cervia and all three against San Marino, reaching ten goals in the first six games of the season. As October starts we have most of our players back, so hopefully we can get over our slow start in the league.

OCTOBER 2006Game of the MonthLatina v GallipoliDespite our good start to the season Gallipoli came in clearly fancying their chances as they started off in an attacking, wide 4-4-2 formation. We decide to fight fire with fire with our own attacking formation and this leads to exactly the pointless, aimless, scoreless defensive battle you wouldn't expect. The good news is that all the missing excitement from the first half is packed into the second as I presume their manager spends the 15 minute break saying "what the hell was that?" That's certainly what I did. In the first five minutes of the second left winger Domenico Costanzo breaks free of his marker four times to lash four shots at goal... that all go wide. Gallipoli answer with efforts from Pietro Clemente that require good saves from Federico Orlandi and then Donato Masi spanks a free kick off the frame of our goal. Clemente had caused us all sorts of issues last season too, so I was glad when midfielder Russell Harty, still playing at DC, went through him like a chicken jalfrezi, sending Clemente off on a stretcher. Harty moved even further up my favourite persons list just a minute later when he rose highest at the near post for a Costanzo corner and headed home our first. With the lead we decide to abandon the attacking play in favour of counter-attacking and hey presto, bang-bang, two goals in three minutes for Gennaro Marasco, thank you very much. Latina 3-0 GallipoliThe RestNot a super month as we drop our first points of the season, but we're still undefeated, so I can't really complain. The best news is that new Hungarian AMC/F Lulu is back from his dislocated to shoulder to feature in his first game of the season. He's only at 75% fitness for our final game of the month so he starts on the bench, but with Cat Stevens having another off day Lulu is thrown on, plays a neat one-two with David McCallum and beats the keeper from 12 yards for the only goal in a 1-0 win. Latina 2-2 Cisco Roma Latina 3-0 Gallipoli Andria Bat 1-1 Latina Cosenza 0-1 Latina Player of the MonthGennaro Marasco ran up a 7-8-7-8 month with three goals as his surprising season continues. He was clearly the only original player we had who could score consistently last season, but I expected him to be pushed out this season by Stevens, Depardieu and Lulu. The RestCat Stevens' mini slump continued, but he still looks dangerous when he has a good game and he's our second-leading scorer. He seems to be taking ~ten shots to score these days however.

The good news is, it's still just as funny as it was then.
