I parssed. Which was quite a bonus. Considering I was papping myself- wobbly knees, dry mouth, the lot. Being older must be worse for that.
Anyway, I was bricking it, especially as my Reversing-Around-A-Corner was a bit shambolic in my two days of practice lessons.
My instructor told me "You're a good driver, but the test is about observations and manouevres. Don't arse them up and you'll be fine". He then gave me a mock exam the day before in which I got 9 minor faults (of an allowable 15). Which was ok.
The actual test? I got 2.
The examiner said afterwards- "Very good drive. Thanks".
You could have painted me puce and called me Stella.
Dead chuffed me were. And then came the seminal moment of actual driving my car off the ferry for the first time.
As I said, smart.
Cheers for the messages.

Congratulations,
When I passed my driving test. It was jan 95. The examine Asked if I could read the number plate on the red car, I read something out but must of been wrong as he asked me to step forwards a couple of steps and try again. my legs went jelly like as soon as I sat in the car I could not de-press the cluch
It was chucking it down with rain and i forgot to put the de-misseders on, the examiner kept wiping the side windows so he could see what was coming at junctions.
When we got back to the test center he asked about road sings but he never asked about stopping lengths (strange that). But he passed me first time.

I had to bribe the instructor in the "on-the-road" test, but nonetheless I did well in the hill climb, parking and three-point tests

Congrats Pops, and on the first attempt too. I'm not sure which is worth, spending less time worrying about actually passing, or more worrying about the other potential idiots on the road.
I think this deserves and exalt :thumb:

Actually, Sonic, I did fail three tests, 20 years ago and gave it all up as a mug's game.

Congrats Pops! I always thought that sitting the driving test was worse than doing my finals. Even way back when, when the test was easier.

Excellent work, Pops. Now don't hit any cyclists, like me.
I'm in court on 7th March. :moop:

The question now remains, will people complaint about Pops driving because he's a newbie or because he's an old hag?

Welcome to the wonderful world of motorised transport, Pops.

Well done Pops :thumb:
I'm trying to find a relevant thread, this one will do. I'm in the middle of buying my first flat! Decent-sized one bedroom place in west Abingdon - can't afford to get anything in Oxford cos it's a mite expensive, but Abingdon has a very good bus service, some nice pubs and a few decent restaurants. Got it for £7k less than the asking price, with white goods and curtains thrown in. Feel all grown up and stuff - finally getting on that property ladder...

Nice work, Boo. Shame you didn't buy last year and are now selling, as the prices are about to drop.
Maybe.
I know I can't afford to fart at the minute.

I'm not sure anyone really knows what the housing market is going to do this year, Moo. The best I can do is get on now I can afford it, and go with the flow...
How much does it cost to fart up there? It's free down here, y'know.

Ooo, get Boo and his "free" farting. I have visions of beer swilling fat cyclists popping bum burps around Oxford with a carefree approach whilst the rest of us are taxed just for having an arsehole.
As it is Boo - I bought my own first home about a month and a half ago.

I assumed it was just because moo had had a tasty curry last night that he couldn't afford to fart.

Most of the bikes around here have those little trailers for the kids on the school run - the kids plea with their parents not to fart while they're being trailed behind but the parents don't listen. Hey, the farts are free! I always reckon it looks a bit dodgy, safety wise, having the children trailed behind a bike like that, but I guess it's a lot greener than those big old 4-wheel drives. Oh aye, I remember seeing photos a while ago, if it's the same place. Hope it's going okay...

I've had builders in for the last 3 months doing stuff to it internally, next thing up is central heating then the roof being looked at. Aside from that it's peachy.

Nice one, dude. I don't think my new place will need much work - I'd like to get a storage heater moved in the bedroom, cos it's in a ridiculous position at the moment, but everything else seems pretty good. I'm in the midst of getting results from the solicitor searches and stuff. I reckon I'll be able to move in sometime during April or May, which is good as people are moving into my current abode on 31 May!

It didn't "need" the work, but it gives a nice blank canvas and will put £20k on the place if I choose to sell just because it doesn't still have 20's wallpaper, cracked ceilings, ugly gas heaters etc. Right now I'm going through colour charts and the only thing on my mind is "What a poof". Beware solicitors - mine found a brand new mine shaft with 20m of the house that didn't exist on any previous survey. Magic. Took an extra month just for them to go "Sorry, it was a coffee stain on the OS map". Except they didn't, the mineshaft just mysteriously disappeared.

Aye, mine's pretty much already a blank canvas - built in the 80s and no horrid decorations to be seen. It's currently owned by a bloke around my age who must have done the same as me a couple of years ago - he seems to have kept the place in pretty good nick. No colour charts for me yet - indeed apart from the storage heater the only things I really need to worry about are a couple of sofas and a computer desk. Less immediately, a dining table would be nice, and I might even have room for the piano currently at my folks' house.
Ta for the solicitor warning - I know they're generally a bunch of fucktards but mine have been pretty efficient so far. Touch wood. Have you been digging for the mine shaft yet? It might lead to a secret volcanic lair...

My solicitor started in October, finished in January. We were 90% complete by November 12th when they cropped up with this survey bollocks. Tarts.
Still, we had a bit of a whinge and the next day - completely unrelated to our moan - he phoned up and said "I've just been looking at the price you were quoted, and I think we can do it more cheaply". Which was nice. Seeing as he gave us the original quote.
Not entirely compus mentus.
