I'm trying to find a relevant thread, this one will do. I'm in the middle of buying my first flat! Decent-sized one bedroom place in west Abingdon - can't afford to get anything in Oxford cos it's a mite expensive, but Abingdon has a very good bus service, some nice pubs and a few decent restaurants. Got it for £7k less than the asking price, with white goods and curtains thrown in. Feel all grown up and stuff - finally getting on that property ladder... So, things are moving on.. I finally got all the searches and stuff done through the solicitors, and I've just been to sign contracts, pay deposit, etc etc. We're just waiting for a couple of small things to come through from the flat management company before we're ready to go to completion. Maybe a couple of weeks, maybe a bit longer. The only complication is that I need to move out of my current place on 22 May, so I may be homeless for a short while.

I need to move out of my current place on 22 May, so I may be homeless for a short while. I have a garage full of cardboard boxes and newspapers, well I have until green bin emptying week. :checkit: Seriously though, good luck with the move Boo. :thumb: What will you do in the weeks between moving out and moving in, anything planned yet? And when you say 'we' is that the Royal we or have you a parner in crime?

We is the solicitors and I. I'll be living on my own, although my girlfriend will wander round every now and then, I'm sure. As far as potential homelessness goes, the missus has said I can kip at hers for a while - she has a spare room so I don't turn her room into too much of a monkey nest...

Nice work, Boo! Then you cancel the house purchase and squat.
Although thinking about a fat mess like you squatting is making my brain hurt.

It turns out I'll be homeless for five days, as I pick up the keys for my new flat on 27 May. I'll be in Cardiff for most of those homeless days, so it's all good! I've just gotta start packing up my current place before next Thursday now...

I'm not looking forward to it, let's put it that way. I have to put it all in a mate's garage for a few days, and then shift it to Abingdon. Woohoo...

Ouch try not to put anything valuable in the garage as it probably won't be insured.

Anything valuable? You're joking, right? The most valuable thing I've got is a half-eaten Tunnocks bar...

The only reason it's so valuable is it's rarity value. A half-eaten Tunnocks bar? In my presence? Have you ever heard of such a thing? Exactly...

So I'm now officially homeless. Handed in the keys to my rented flat this lunchtime. The place was pretty clean - we'd spent hours cleaning the oven and vaxing the carpets, both of which I've since been told will be replaced. I forgot to clean inside the fridge, though, which I'll probably be deducted some £ for. :moop:
Pick up the keys to the new place on Tuesday. Between now and then, I've got two nights at Antonia's and three nights in Cardiff. I've got Tuesday off work, supposedly for a post-tour recovery day but actually I'll be moving loads of my stuff from a garage in Oxford to a second floor flat in Abingdon...

Good luck with that, when will Broadband be installed? You'll need some home entertainment now that you will be poor in the first few years with a mortgage round your neck.

Aye, tell me about it. Broadband will be one of the first things I sort out, possibly with Tiscali unless anyone has any better options? I can't get cable installed, so it'll have to be internet down the phone line. I hear Tiscali offer sky sports down the phone line, which I can't quite believe. Maybe I've got my wires crossed...
