How do members want this guild to operate in the future? Do we open it up a bit more and start inviting others to join or do we keep it exclusive to the few? I was thinking of listing the Guild and members on the sonews.net site: See Here what are your feelings on this? We can list without opening up membership to all and sundry. As the GM I don't want the Guild to be totally open and would want to vet anyone wishing joining the guild who isn't well known by other members, especially as I can't kick mmbers out until we level up. But it would be nice to have a few more members to boost the Guild Exp towards the next level. I just wanted to see how others felt about this, I certainly won't rush into anything as I want everyone's views and I'm away for 2 weeks in September, so nothing if anything will be committed to until October at the earliest. Even then, I might have my mind on running an Autumn tournament, if I can rasie enough NG to fund some prizes.

I'm not all that fussed. Don't see what would be wrong with opening it up, as long as the new guys weren't pantfishes...

I was thinking that as you are hosting this site, I wouldn't want to step on your toes for bringing in new users. I'd want myself and a few others to vet any potential new members to ensure that they aren't pantfishes. I'd also want to restrict it as far as it is practicable to over 18's only.

Don't worry about that - all sounds good to me...

Hi All, At the moment we all know each other through one other person or more on this site. (thats kinda cool) Well, it would be nice to have a few more, but I have concerns over: Making sure we don't bring in members that are 'Too Experienced' after all we are still beginners (well most of us)
When we have comps, if they are not contributing large payments to 'You' the organiser then potencially you are giving strangers your money??? Hmmm
It may be an idea to vet them and if suitable they contribute a larger sum for joining to help with prizes etc??? (just a sugestion)All in all, it would bring in some extra competition, but not really fussed either way....bit wishy washy I know but I am happy to go with the majority vote. Hope this helps Laters

I'm not bothered, to be honest, as I'm just mucking about (by myself mostly) on the weekends it's pretty much immaterial.

I wouldn't propose to let anyone in without proper vetting, ie. I've played a number of rounds with them and so have a few otehr members at the very least. I think Elth stands to benefit most as he doesn't have any guild members in his time zone to meet up with.
Elth: are there any players you come across regularly that you would want in the Guild?
The same question really goes to everyone, I'm not opening it to be a free-for all, I think I like the idea of personal recommendation only. Ie. someone we've got to know and get on with. Unil we level up I want to be careful, because I don't have the power to expel members until we hit level F.
I'm quite happy for us to remain a small private-ish guild, but feel we do need a few more member if only to increase competition a little.
Oh and while we're at it if anyone has any idea's for guild event's or competitions post them here.
What about one of those League ladder type things that I've seen squash & badminton clubs run? Does anyone want to set one up and run it? It would have to be for fun though, I'm not sure how you would fund something like that.

I've only played about two rounds in a month Most of the decent people I've played with were already in guilds from memory.

Ok, I'll leave it to you Elth but if you think you can identify anyone you'd want in the guild, give us a shout we'd probably have to take your word for it as meeting up chances tend to be few and far between.

As far as the guild is concerned, I think we have to take a chance on getting some members in, as we're never going to get to the points required to level up. I know it's mostly you that is contributing, Coffers, so it's whether or not you feel you need the help to do so. I guess the majority of the points come from the higher-level players and I know the only high level I play with is you. I suppose if you're honest with the 40+ players and say that you just want the guild to level up, then they might give you a hand, you never know. Anyone over level 40 are probably semi-dedicated at worst to playing the game and so would know that being an idiot isn't going to help them at all.
As far as the league ladder goes, it's a good idea. IIRC, the way they work is that the winner of the match moves one place above the loser, so if Elth was in 3rd place and I challenged and beat him (from 6th and last), I would then move to 3rd, Elth to 4th and the rest moved down one place too, so that whoever was in 5th moves to bottom place. The monetary value would not be an issue, for me, as you normally get your course fee back via your play. If you don't, then you're not playing the right courses. The main concern for me is how to score the rounds, handicaps would be needed and this is the tricky part as we found out in the Summer Tournament.

In that case, if no one objects strongly, I'll start looking to recruit a few more players. Vetted of course.
As I said before if there are player you come across regularly who you think might fit in, then let me know.
