Brixie. I almost picked Cristiano Ronaldo, but realised I couldn't live with even a tiny part of me wanting him to do well. At anything. Ever. Your lads'll have him crying next season anyway, most teams do. Just kick him for a bit and he gets all petulant and forrin.

17% of people playing the game have picked Roberto Carlos. In related news, 17% of people are idiots. Dunno about that. I think he'll be starting most games for the Brazzies and I don't think they will be letting in many goals in their group stage (or after for that matter) and he could well get an assist or two against someone and the laws of averages says that one of the free kicks he insists on taking might go in. It's not actually about the individual talent or merit of the player in fantastyland. You should know that from helmetball.

Who needs Roberto Carlos when you've got Lebo Lebo, Angola's finest?
You mark my words.

I've finally got my act together, and I've entered a team: Cinos Under No Tents, and called myself Bob Jane. Cuh, I'll never learn with the managers names thingy-ma-jiggys.

It was so polite to remind me today that I had fucking Mehdi Mahdavavadavavikhia in my team, so that's sorted now. 89.5m spent, because I'm seriously wanting to win this. Which is why I'll probably end just in front in Pops (aka second from the bottom).

So I won't touch the bottom.

And I actually applied for a job where you have to write English all the time. But then again: my CV is full of lies, as is everybody's. Second to last it is then...

I've just been and changed most of my team, because the one I had was rubbish. Henry and Crouchino up front, just £90m spent...

One of them isn't going to score any goals.

No it's alright. I've just realised that Henry will be playing a bunch of useless wankers and will, consequently, score you a shedload of points before the real competition begins and he disappears without a trace from the fatnasty points table.
Of course Crouch won't score any because FIFA will conspire to prevent him from scoring so we don't have to see the "amusing" robot dance again. (Although we, on this board, have no choice but to see it everytime s1ut decides to grace us with a post).

Yeah. I would feel sorry for him, breaking his leg in the final friendly before the Extraordinarily Big Cup, but he's an absolute twunt.

Had to drop Isaksson (who was my banker for a clean sheet in the first round of games) because Källström kicks the ball too hard. I can't pick his replacement because I don't have the slightest idea who will be replacing him (although most people think it will be Alvbåge). So I had to plump for Cech instead.
On a side note. What the fuck was Lagerbäck thinking of when he took Shabani and Alvbåge instead of a goalkeeper with, you know, a bit of experience and recent playing time? Suddenly the danger of T&T snatching a flukey goal against Sweden increases.

Nark- you never genned me up on Karl Svensson- decent?
World Cup starts today, yay. Despite all my best efforts not to, I have managed to get quite excited.

Dunno the Pops. He's being talked about as the next big thing in the Shandyland defence (the lord knows they need it) so I presume he must be decent. (Although it could be a bunch of hype of course). I haven't been following football much the last year or so, so I haven't really heard much about anyone.
I'm the same about the World Cup. I've been determined not to get excited about it but there's the odd twinge (helped by avoiding the blanket coverage in England - since Tuesday anyway). You just have to remember that all the decent games will happen in the group stage while the knock-out stages will be borefests.

Cheers- I had gleaned something of that nature from the press on Svensson- he's unlikely to appear in the WC unless there is an injury to others.
It does say something when the likes of Poland-Ecuador are whetting my taste buds. The times of the games are a little pooh, but hey ho- according to reports BBC Interactive will be showing full reruns on demand on the red button. I see some late nights and score-avoidance techniques coming into play.
Weirdly enough, the wedding tomorrow means I miss the England-Paraguay game and I think I'd be more upset missing any other game. Strange. I'm not backward enough to deliberately not watch England, but there you go.
Interactive offers choice of commentary. Until England go out, it looks like a lot of Fanzone for me - anyone speak Togoese?

Poland-Ecuador should be a comedy of errors. Both teams have been playing woefully recently. I was particularly impressed by Columbia's second goal against Poland. Goal kick bounces in front of Pooy keeper and over his head as he appears to have it covered but leaves it and into the goal. Class!
Of course they're talking it up as the decider for second place in the group but both will probably settle for a draw. I'm hoping Costa Rica get through from group A just because they deserved to do so last time round only to be pipped by Turkey. Obviously if they can beat Germany ala Senegal and Cameroon in openers, then all the better.
The problem with the times is that 18:00 is when we give David dinner and get him ready for bed and the 21:00 one finishes a bit late for those of us who get up at 6:00.
