Lst night I played out the home game against Cardiff and we won comfortably 3-1 even with 10 men. We scored first from Luke Moore after 8 minutes, Didier Degard was sent off after about 30 minutes for a 2 footed tackle, then on 35 minutes Leroy Lita blasted our second goal. Cardiff pulled a goal back late in teh first half. The game was wrapped up in teh 88th minute when David Healy headed in from close range.
I diod go on to try to start the away match against Newcastle but unfortunately the game blue screened again just as I submitted the team sheet. I couldn't be bothered restarting so that game will have to wait until the next session.
Interestingly sending teh reports to Microsoft gets a response that the laptop doesn't support Direct X 9. Which is crap because it does.
The win against Cardiff didn't make any difference to teh table as both West Brom and Bristol City also won.

As for a new PC it will have to wait a long time. Unfortunately there are other things vying for my cash, like a new 12.5 or 14 metre pole. Paying off Mrs C's Christmas presents etc. etc.

It does indeed look very reasonable as it includes a monitor. I just got the box as I have no problems with my monitor so didnt see the need to get another.

When it comes to buying a new PC, I'd need a monitor too, as the only other one I have is a brute of a 19" CRT thing that is under my desk at work. I'm waiting for a crane hire company to offer their services for free to help me dispose of it. Last time I attemted to move it I near broke my back.

Newcastle 0 vs 0 Boro
Before teh game Newcastle manager said he didn't want to see Boro promoted, I said I wanted to see Newcastle crash and burn and I also said John Gregory was a twat who used too much Grecian 2000.
The skunks fouled their way to a point which was probably a fair result in a dour match, teh commentators refered to Newcastle's tactics as over-enthusiastic.
After the game I referred to John Gregory as a being a cheating twat all his managerial career so why should this game be any different.
We're still 3rd, West Brom won, Bristol City drew so we are 4 points adrift of teh top 2 again.
Oh and I'd take that ias a good result these days in the real world.

The next result though was very bad, a 0-0 draw at home to Scunthorpe, we remain 3rd with West Brom and Bristol City winning the top two are pulling away. However I'm really struggling to get a decent team together with 7 first team regulars out due to suspension and injury. Hoyte was sent off in the first half of this game for a violent challenge on aScunthorpe player. butthe ref was letting the opposition get away with murder.
We travelled to Barnsley next and came away with a 2-0 win, Aliadiere scored both goals, which made a change as he's normally crap. West Brom Drew at Scunthorpe, Bristol City cotinuue to win and are 6 points ahead of us after 24 games. West Brom are 3 points in front and we are 5 ahead of the 4th placed team, Preston.
This takes us into January and I fear teh game is aboutto stop until I get the full version on the laptop.

Oh aye, they're quick. Will you be continuing with this save when you install the full version, or will you start again with a bigger db, extra leagues, etc? I'd probably stick with what you have if you're worried about performance, TBH.

It allowed me to play the next match which was the 3rd round of the FA Cup, a home tie against Reading, which we won 2-0, thanks to goals from johnson and Wheater. I only had 2 fit strikers left available to me, plus Emnes on the bench. So to continue I need the full game to be installed. I'll probably play this season out when the game arrives, however I expect to move on then. I;ve made a lot of mistakes with this savegame and have way overspent. I also bought the wrong players early on when experimenting with the transfer system. But Hey Ho, lets see what the rest of teh season brings. Then I'll probably try some team down in the lower leagues of some godforsaken country, but not quite as low as what Moo is doing.

No, it's pretty low and TBH, the financial model down there really doesn't work that well. But saying that, from what I have read, anything lower than Conference National is knacked. Long term, most of the Conf North and South teams go to Insecure at some point, and we're talking 60% of them. I understand that SpInG can't correctly model the finances of leagues they don't have in the game (and are available through editors and XML files), I would expect that the Conference teams wouldn't all be knacked after five or six seasons.
If you're going to start off anew, Coffers, I would recommend having the medium DB on, as having the large one makes a difference, but I wouldn't think too much of a difference to the quality of your save. Also, deffo don't load leagues and divisions you have no intention of managing in.

Thanks for that, are there any plans by Sping to fix the financal model on the leagues they do support? Even with Boro money is disappearing down a big black hole. I've lost over £8M so far in the first half of the season.
Though I suspect that is because I haven't kept a close eye on the finances so far.

The LLM lot have mentioned the financial model of LLM type teams, yes, but it isn't going to be in the xmas patch. It's something that is on their To Do List for FM11 which is more like a Might Do list, in all honesty. They're actively asking the forumites for ideas as to what they want to see, or be fixed. As the huge majority of people won't be bothered about the finances of teams that aren't in the Premiership, I suspect that will be overlooked, which is a shame.

Oh and as far as Boro and the £8M, I think that might be mostly down to you. I was doing OK with Newcastle in my demo, not brilliantly, but just OK with regarding finances. I had loaned out and loaned in a few players, as well as getting rid of a couple of high earners.

I'm doing inexplicably well as Coventry. Not only did I scrape it to stay up first season, I then finished 14th, back down to 17th and then a 10th place, which would be our highest since 1970 I believe. I then beat Hull in the FA Cup final coming from two goals down with 10 mins left to win 3-2, arguably the best score to win an FA Cup with. I expect at least a statue to be built in my honour, but as Chelsea have moved to Zola Park I'm hoping for my own new stadium/theme park complex now.
I've managed to attract the likes of Van der Vaart, Salomon Kalou, Obertan and Luis Jiminez to my plucky little outfit. I'm just waiting for the day when I load my savegame up and it cuts to Bobby Ewing finishing his shower.

and indeed :cab: IIRC, I'm in my second season with this save, the first wasn't pretty, almost getting Ossett Albion relegated, but they saved themselves after I resigned, with my almost getting Chesham Utd into the playoffs, but missing out. The board want me to get promoted from whatever division I'm in this season and I don't think that will happen. I have some decent players, but nothing that will frighten the opposition, especially up front. I have some OK youth to come through in a couple of years, but they'll only get action when I have injuries, like my 16yo RB is getting at the moment. He's doing fine though, avg of ~6.8 over eight games or so, which is nice. IIRC, we're currently entrenched in midtable within reach of everyone as it's very bunched.

I have just read that the new patch is out for FM10.
Coffers, definately go grab that before starting a new game as apparently there has been some tweaks made to lower league finances and ticket prices, which is going to be of benfit to you, I would think.

Maybe it will stop all the Bluescreens too, I heard teh first patch remedied some blue screen problems. Do I have to get the first installed then teh 2nd or does the second patch include the fixes from teh release day patch?
|
|
|
Post by Moo on Dec 17, 2009 10:34:36 GMT
They normally include all previous patches, but I'll check to be on the safe side.
The blue screens, IIRC, were something to do with memory leaks which have been addressed in this patch.

I've just checked, it's cumulative. Downloading now in preparation.
I also saw that there is a blue screen fix in patch 1, for an issue that causes some games to crash as you sunmit a teamsheet and start to enter a match. Something that happens regularly to me in the demo.
