Whatever it is, I'm sure Coffers has never heard of it.
Excellent start, Coffers, yet again, you make this game seem ridiculously easy. Are you using the tactics creator or going straight into the sliders?

I started messing with the sliders on the demo game trying to modify the classic 4-4-2 but the results were indifferent I also juggled positions and formations before attempting the tactics creator halfway through my First season.
I come up with a few formations to suit needs since then. The one I'm generally using is a classic 4-1-2-3 with style starting as either attacking or counter depending on where and who I'm playing. the 3 up front are all forwards or strikers, this is a no wingers style as my wide players aren't that good. My reasoning for the 3 up front is all to do with the fact I have a decent defence a few reasonable central mid-fielders and crap attackers apart from teh season long loanee Chili Burger, so I'm playing the numbers game upfront hoping that will cause the defences enough problems for us to nick goals here and there.

One thing I'm not managing as usual is the finances, we are way over budget and my tendancy to release players to reduce wages is costing money ion other areas. However the real dross that I want to get rid off are of no use to anyone else even on freebies.
The club are in a dodgy financial state and the board have just injected a cash bonus of £28k to help keep things on an even keel. that doesn't even cover a tenth of the debt. Following the last friendly my midfield became decimated by training ground injuries and January is looking to be a likely bleak month in more ways than one.
The board are delighted with the League position but aren't so keen on one of my backup signings Harminica Style, that's probably because of his age, but he's solid enough in an emergency.

The key thing is getting promoted, as then you can get a better quality of crap players who you might even be able to make money on. HOw is it with getting a squad full of loans in this version? I found that you could do this in FM08, and you'd save buckets in wages. If someone came along then, you had more than peanuts to offer.
First? Well done there. KUTGW :thumb:

I think I have 4 long term loan players or maybe it's 3 now, as I did try to get another one in a damned decent DMC but he opted for another C2 club. I have a feeling there is no limit to loanees but the transfer window does seem to affect when the loans can be made and terminated.
Oh yes promotion is the key otherwise I think I'll be in big trouble next season. Player selling is teh key to making money down here, and as teh ones I want to get rid of are shoite or too old, I can only offload on frees and then there are some who I can't get rid of even on frees.

One thing I have never got the hang of in Italy is the part ownership thing. There are one or two I don't want in the squad but can't remove as they are part owned. It seems I can only make bids for them. No way that will happen as I'd make an even bigger loss when I binned them.

|
|
Post by Moo on Feb 24, 2010 13:12:56 GMT
The part ownership is basically you and another team own a player. When the ownership deal (ie contract) is finished, both clubs bid for the player and the highest bidder pays the other team that price. For instance, say you and Juventus own Marco Marconi, a star striker who is at your club and banging the goals in. His contract is up for renewal and you think you want to keep him and bid 100k, but Juve bid 150k... Juve win, get the player, you get the 150k. The complication is if a 3rd party jump in, as they can buy the player, but the fee gets split between the two owners, although you can have the situation where one owner (usually where the player is currently plying his trade) refuses to sell.
I think that is how it works.
In any case, if you don't want the player when he's up for renewal, don't bid, or bid zero and then hope he just goes out on a free transfer somewhere else, as I don't know what happens if you both offer zero.

Taken from a SpInG thread..... I forgot about the 2 year thing..... ============================ Team A owns 100% of a player's rights. Team B comes with an offer to buy 50% of his rights (it's always 50-50 and only during a transfer window.). The offer informs whether team B wants to take the player to their squad if the offer is accepted or leave him with his current squad. Co-ownership can be for 1 or 2 years. Team B can also include a "buyout clause" which can be used during the co-ownership deal. If team A accepts the offer, team B offers the player a contract. If the player accepts the contract the deal goes through. Now both teams own 50% of player's rights. If one of the two teams wants to buy the player's other 50% they can make a bid for him at any time, even outside a transfer window. 1 year after the co-ownership deal has began, both teams are invited to make an offer to buy the player's other 50%. Best bid wins. If the deal was for 2 years, one of the teams can decline on making an offer and the deal stays as it was until next year. Usually it's the team at which he currently plays that chooses to decline. At the end of the 2nd year both teams are again invited to make an offer and this time they can't decline. Best bid buys the player. There's also the scenario where team C wants an already co-owned player. They have to offer both A and B separate offers for the player inside a transfer window. If both A and B agree, team C offers the player a contract and if accepted they sign him 100%. You can not buy 50% of a players rights if he's already co-owned by 2 other teams. You either buy him outright or you get nowt. This can be useful for smaller teams as they get paid for a player and they may continue to use him for up to 2 years. Bigger teams usually do this for younger players who they believe can become good enough in the future. ============================= *edit* What isn't mentioned in either my original or the above post is that the bids are submitted in secret to the Italian FA who sort it out. Well, in Italy, I'm sure it's in "secret".

Yes, but if the player is someone who will be a C1 player at best (and therefore good for your particular team) then it's unlikely that a Serie A or B team would bid for him. It's not a situation that I think I would be particularly comfortable with, but I guess it depends on the fee I get to start the co-ownership agreement and how skint I was at the time.

All the co-owned ones were here when I came, oh and as teh transfer window closes my options to get loan players in closes too, though I don't think I'll need them now.

The Winter break ends with a trip to Sambonifacese, Pudding Basin opens on 3 minutes, Disney World adds a second on 20 and Grilled Alice put's us 3-0 up on 31. We then seem to ease up and Sambonifacese pull one back on 57. Pudding Basin makes it 4-1 on 66 and the hosts again pull a goal back on 77 to end the scoring. Won 4-2.
Following the game we secured the signature of a young 3 star potential goalkeeper called Twin Castles as backup to Stop In The Name Of Love.
A trip to promotion chasing Rodengo came next and an exciting game ensued. A 20 second Chili Burger strike was cancelled out on 22 by Baido. Del Bosco then put Rodengo 2-1 up on 56 and we were struggling, but headed an equaliser on 72. Rodengo grabbed the lead again on 77 and we were playing like idiots in defence. Chili Burger plundered the equaliser with a minute of normal time left. Drew 3-3.
Thankfully though Pavia won this week, they had lost the week before so we were a point better off than we were before the end of teh break.
At home to Po Belvedere we raced into a 2-0 lead from goals from Pudding Basin on 6 and Chili Burger on 13. But the second half saw us throw that away as Pro Belvedere snatched goals on 60 and 75 to grab a draw from teh jaws of defeat. Drew 2-2.
Pavia closed the gap to 2, or was it 3 points, as they won 4-1 at home.
We got back on trackin teh last game in January at home to Pro Sesto. We ran up a 3-0 lead by half time, goals coming from Steamy Window (10), Chili Burger (35) and Tomato Puree on 39. Then we sat back for the rest of the game, sestro grabbed a consolation a minute from time. Won 3-1.
Pavia keep the pressure up by winning 2-0 at home to Olbia.
As the transfer window closed we landed a 3 star striker called Simple Cooking who was free as he wasn't attached to a club, we failed ina bid to land a 4.5 star DMC on a loan for teh rest of the season as he opted to play for another Serie C2 club, which was annoying as I was in teh middle of a bit of a midfield crisis, with players dropping like flies to injury and illness.
February opened with a home game to our nearest rivals Pavia, they took an early lead on 11 with a back post header from a corner. Disney World equalised on 21 heading in a deep Pudding Basin cross from teh right corner of teh 6 yard box. Both sides cancelled each other out for teh rest of the game, so we maintained our position as leaders of the division. Drew 1-1.
So we had played four promotion challengers on the trot and had maintained our charge for the championship, I had felt things were faltering a bit but when I look at who we had played I felt a lot happier.

Damn I wrote up the next 2 months of games and the bloody keyboard flipped back a page on IE and lost the lot. I hate laptop keyboards. With that in mind, here were the results: Olbia (A) won 2-0 Villacidrese (A) Drew 1-1 Feralpi Salo (H) Won 1-0 (At this point, ie. after the game, I decided that the 3 up front tactic was starting to fail and switched to a 2 up front formation) Legnano (H) Won 4-0 Mezzacorona (H) Won 2-0 Noceto (A) Lost 0-2 (Noceto were bottom before the game started and the win allowed them to jump up one place for teh first time in months. After this game I switched back to my original tactic). Pro Vercelli (H) Won 1-0 (Shaken Not Stirred got sent off after 49 minutes the winner came with 4 minutes left to play) During the first 3 matches Pavia pretty much matched our results but they fell apart in the last 4 as they drew every one. This means the league table with 4 games left to play looks like this: At this point we offered a contract to an useful looking but slow AMC called Ibsen Monologue. He jumped at the chance to cause our finances to further deteriorate. The board added £100,00 to the pot, which made little impact on our debt. Oh and the Assman thinks that 33yo Lion Pussy's wages could be better used elsewhere, though I agree the cost of releasing him on a free at £750 a week is prohibitive and I can't see anyone bidding for him anytime soon. Maybe I can find a buyer in the close season.

We traveled to Spezia without first choice DC Shaken Not Stirred who received a 3 match ban for his sending off. Female DVD Workout got the nod to take his place, before the game started I'd have been happy with a point and as the game progressed nothing I saw persuaded me to change my mind on that one. Spezia put us under pressure from the start and we struggled to get forward. Against the run of play we grabbed the lead 4 minutes into 1st half injury time, Female DVD Workout headed his first goal for the club from an English Mustard corner. The goal stunned the home crowd into silence. Spezia came at us even harder in the second half and finally equalised on 65 minutes as our defence finally caved in to the pressure. I decided to take a chance and go for it and received our reward 10 minutes later when Tomato Puree played in Disney World to blast what turned out to be the winner from 18 yards. So to say I was overjoyed was an understatement. The overjoyed state turned to delirium as I heard the results coming in, our only challengers Pavia had lost 1-0 away to 7th placed Canavese. The result means that they can't catch us and we are champions of C2/A with 3 games to spare. The table: I've never seen so many messages of support and congratulations in all the years in this game. I felt overwhelmed. Every single message indicated total suprise at our achievement, well I suppose they would given taht we were predicted to finish in 15th place, ie. in the relegation playoffs.

I have to say, you've got a mean defense.

I pretty much based my season on the defence as when I started I decided that that was my strongest area and I struggled to get any sort of real quality in other areas. I fugured that if I could keep a mean defence one ore two decent players in front of them might nick a goal. The 3 up front formation also helped a lightweight (apart from 1 and he was/is on loan) forward line.
My formation also means I have no decent wide midfielders so played much of the season without wingers. I think I'll be taking the same philosophy forward into next season too.

Three games left and we take on Carpenedolo at home, they take a shock early lead on 3 minutes with a 30 yard strike as we look lethargic. On 23 we're back on level terms, Pasta Packet goes route one with a long through ball, Chili Burger chases it down and places a low finish passed the keeper from 25 yards out. On 62 Giro Sack splits the Carpenedolo defence and Chili Burger slot sin from close range. Won 2-1. Away to Canavese in our Penultimate game and Chili Burger strikes gold again with goals on 8 and 11. The score stays like that until the 87th minute when our hosts pull a goal back and then then equalise on 90 minutes +3. Drew 2-2. I manage to sign season long loanee Pasta Packet on a Bosman, he's had an absolutely steady season, never excelling but never giving anything less than a good performance. so I'll have continuity in the back four next season, unless I find better players for nothing. We then land two freebies who are unattached to any club: 1. Calamari Cocktail a 20yo DM/MC who looks to be a potential 4* player according to the scout who found him but the Ass Man thinks he's 3.5 stars when he arrives. Whatever, he has double figure stats in all but 7 attributes and those aren't important in the areas he plays in. This one could be temperamental though as he's outraged by my media comment that I had the future in mind when I signed him. What's that all about? He's already rated as the best midfielder at the club. 2. Kimono Dragon (yes I said Kimono), a 20yo striker who the scouts said would be 4.5 stars of potential, again the ass-man reckons he's 3.5 stars, but he looks to be as useful as the on loan Chili Burger so I'll be happy if he lives up to that rating. Both will get a start in the last game of the season. We also land some potential players on trial so I organise a friendly after the last league game to get a handle on them before I have to make a decision. So to the last league game of the season a home game against Valenzana, it turns out to be another Chili Burger show as he scores all four of our goals on 17, 57, 64 and 76. English Mustard misses a 17th minute penalty and Valenzala score 2 goals in the last 3 minutes. The two newbies make a goal a piece so look as if they will be useful players. Won 4-2. The final League Table: Top place means we win £70,000, which hardly makes a dent in our debt, but I guess it's a start.

A couple of days after I arranged the friendly it got cancelled as it seems we have a fixture with Gela. I checked the fixture list and found that we had two new fixtures that weren't there before, it seems we have been entered into a Serie C2 Super cup which I assume means we play the teams that topped to other two Serie C2 groups for a tin pot. I had to arrange another friendly this time sandwiched between the Super Cup Games. Hopefully I'll have enough useless players to make up a squad that won't be involved in the Tin Pot cup games.
Prior to the Gela game the fans are dismayed at the prospect of a hammering. I don't know what they are thinking of.

Spookily, when I played in Italy in FM08 (was it?) I did exactly the same thing. Arranged a friendly and then had to cancel it for that competition. Excellent season though, must be very happ with that. From what I saw of the next tier up, it's not really all that more difficult, apart from the Serie B team that have come down, that is. THere's a noticeable step in class with those guys. KUTGW! :thumb:

If I could keep Chili Burger I'd be happy to go up with the strike force I have now I think, but he has a year left on his contract with Cagliari and his value has gone up from £140,000 to £600,000. I think they should pay us some of that for developing him. Another lonaee I can't afford to keep is Giro Sack, but the midfielders I've brought in should compensate there, he's been relegated to the bench sonce Calamari Cocktail joined. One of the trialists I brought in, Shining Teddy a useful looking forward, is described by the ass-man as a selfish player who absolutely dreads the thought of playing in big games. I'm now torn as to whetehr to take a chance on him and leaving out of important matches or just to let him go. He's been unattached all season, plus I've got to the point where clubs across Italy have just released the unwanted youth players. so I need to check out who is now unattached and could do a job for us.

As for the end of Season stuff, We traveled to Gela and eked out a 2-1 win, I can't remember who got the goals, I think it was English Mustard and Disney World, both came in the first half and Gela pulled one back early in the second period. Won 2-1
We then had a friendly at home to Brindisi which gave the moaners and trialists a chance to show what they could do, we eased into a 2-0 lead by the break, Rodeo Star and trialist Shining Teddy were the scorers, by the hour mark we were losing 3-2, Shining Teddy showed his usefulness on 75 as he raced through and cooly beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation to equalise. Drew 3-3.
After the game Whalebone Corset blasted my half time teamtalk, which was no different to the team talks I'd used with the first team squad so I don't know what his problem is other than he can't get his game. He immediately went on the tranfer list and was offered to clubs for £5000 plus 10%, I got two offers for £0 plus 20% both of which I accepted. He can fook right off. Unfortunately there was no option to fine the stupid twunt 2 weeks wages for opening his gob against the run of play. He's also on £600 per week which isn't good value for money and my ass-man has indicated that on a regular basis.
The final game in the C2 Super Cup was at home to Bassano if I recall correctly. Two penalties by English Mustard and two trademark Chili Burger strikes made it a formality, Bassano added one after we were 4-0 up late in the first half. There was no scoring in the second period. Won 4-1, this meant we had won the SC2 Super Cup before Bassano and Gela had even played each other, which seemed to please a lot of people.
After the game I arrange two more friendlies to take another look at the trialists and also in preparation for trialing some of the released youngsters from clubs higher up the league pyramid.

The youngster release was something I really liked trawling through, you could always find some decent players, even if it's just to strengthen your squad on the cheap. I really need to get back to FM.

Once I've got the youngster trawl and two friendlies out of the way I'll do some sort of summary of the players used and how the season went from my point of view.
As for strengthening teh squad, I have no other option than to do it on the cheap, I don't expect any funds to be available to buy anyone, though I do still have £1004 left to spend on players for this season.

The Youngster trawl brought up not a lot, though we did invite some for trials and made offers to players who had no intention of joining us. They all flat refused apart from two who wanted to negotiate basic wages higher than the board would allow me to pay.
The friendlies ended in two wins one against Monopoli which ended in a 3-1 win and one against a Bolivian club called Aurora who we beat 3-0. The fallout from these games was that we signed, Shining Teddy the rather selfish striker I spoke about earlier, he score 2 class goals in the Aurora game and an AMC called Lost Saint who looks useful but didn't do anything outstanding, neitehr did he do anything wrong in the games we played.
The following long term loans expired: Chili Burger, Giro Sack and Pasta Packet (He'll return on a permannent contract at the beginning of July). I would have liked to have signed Burger and Giro Sack permanently but the fees are prohibative. Maybe I can get them on loan again for next season, thoght Giro Sack isn't desperately needed, Chili Burger is.
Now is the time to let the game run through to the pre-season, when I find out what money I get to spend and hopefully a new wage budget.
Meanwhile I won the Serie C2/A Manager of The Season. Tomato Puree was thrid in the Player of the Season award. Chili Burger was 2nd in the Goals Scored charts by quite some way.

We have to find a suitably "humourous" name for the youngster trawl. Something that obviously won't be too offensive like the "kiddie catcher" or "baby bagging". We might get unwanted guests with phrases like those.
