More like the Colts interior defensive line.
Over. And over. And over.

Pats let Maroney leave for a 4th rounder.
Here's your big chance Moo.

THe Bairn texted me last night about 9pm to tell me it had happened. I'm pleased they got a 4th rounder for him though, I would have let him go on a free. He has his qualities, as a player, but he just hasn't shown enough of it.

You sent a pick the other way too.
It was Morony and a sixth round pick for a fourth round pick.

Shame we gave up a 6th rounder. That's normally where we get our good players.
I'm guessing, Stu, that the news of Moroney has been greeted with celebrations in that area of the YooEss?

The fine people of New England were mostly disaffected with Moroney, but also considered him the best of a bad bunch. Faulk is a decent change of pace but isn't an every down back, Fred Taylor is always one carry away from a hip explosion, Sammie Morris was waived by the Dolphins for a reason and Ben Jarvus Green Ellis Smith Rice Barnstaple Teapot is a bit "HULK SMASH" so some people think he's too one paced and other people think he should get the ball every down because they've only ever seen him smash two yards into the end zone.
Billy seems to prefer fresh backs to good backs however so he'll keep platooning and, no doubt, will make it work.
To be honest though, most of the press here has been about how spectacularly dreadful the New Jersey Jets' offence was on Monday night.

After Dirty got nailed and obviously hurt in the first half, he played very well against the Patriots last night. I have no complaints at all about the result, thoroughly deserved. I know that this is a season of change for us, so there will be defeats along the way, but I'll still be disappointed if we don't get 10-6.
And in a related item, the more I see and hear from Rex Ryan, the more I dislike him.

I blame the gameplan more than him. That being said, I honestly didn't see this week's performance coming. The defence played a bit better freed from the plan of "Blitz Every Fucking Down Long Past The Point It Became Obvious That Wasn't Going To Fucking Work" but still, it's clear that the expected drop-off from last year's unsustainable performance is taking place. The offence? Whoa. LDT is showing the difference between playing behind a terrible offensive line and playing behind a bloody good one. He looks like, well, LaDainian Tomlinson again, while Braylon Edwards looks like a man in a contract year. When Santonio Holmes gets back, I'm not sure there's a better receiving group in the league than Edwards/Holmes/Cotchery/Keller. Who's got a better top four targets than that? Maybe Dallas? The Colts? I've got no faith in the coaching staff, the front office or, really, the quarterback. I still suspect this team might finish third in the division this year. But all that being said, last night was bloody good fun.

I had the opportunity to watch both the Dolphins' game and then the Jets-Patriots yesterday and I was conflicted a little as I couldn't think of a way for both teams to lose in the second game, so I was sort of semi-rooting for the Jets as it would level both teams at 1-1 behind us.
But only because I didn't think my first desired result of "Chinese satellite crashes into midfield leaving only a four-mile wide smoking crater" was too likely.
In the Miami game Favre was terrible, which is fortunate for us as it looked like both Brown and Williams had money on the Vikes.
Early on our running game gashed the Vikes run defence, which seemed to puzzle the home crowd, but once the purple folks adjusted to the way we were running our passing game couldn't take up the slack. Brandon Marshall has 12 catches through two games, but no touchdowns and we've scored 29 points through two games - seven of those yesterday came from the sack of Favre in the end zone.
On the subject of which, I wrote off Cameron Wake a bit as a one-trick pony when he came down from Canada - two-time defensive MVP up there, he did little more than rush the passer and struggled to convert to things like... tackling runningbacks. This year though he's been parked at the strongside outside rather than weak and he looks decent in run support and almost unblockable when he rushes the passer - the number of times he got held yesterday was remarkable.
Bad enough that the Vikes got a "home team spot" on a fourth down they really didn't convert, but from about halfway through the second half Wake was just repeatedly wrestled into a bearhug.
So our offence needs to wake up, but 2-0 after opening the season with two road games is brilliant.

Wayne > Edwards Garcon < Holmes Collie > Cotchery Clark >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Keller So, er, yeah. The Colts. Anyway. The Patriots secondary is a joke and they've got a mediocre pass rush - if Carson Palmer can shred you, your defense is a bit mediocre. Sanchez certainly did a lot better than I expected, but I was shocked out how completely flat the Pats were both defensively and offensively in the second half - it was like they'd decided the game was won. Bizarre. Good win for Indy, put Little Brother in his place. Freeney and Mathis when Indy has a lead...awesome.

Football Outsiders chatting about the Bears-Boys game.
Aaron Schatz: Bears put Matt Forte in a trips bunch then motion Earl Bennett into the backfield and throw him a swing pass. Earl Bennett? Not Knox or Hester? Why not just have Forte or Taylor for that pass? I'm not sure what the point of that is.
Ben Muth: Mere mortals cannot be expected to understand THE GENIUS OF MIKE MARTZ.

I agree with elth. Though it doesn't hurt that Wayne, Clark et al have a proper Quarterback throwing to them.

"Jets' wide receiver Braylon Edwards was busted on a drunken driving charge early this morning, after cops pulled him over on the West Side and found he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system, police said. Edwards, 27, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. and charged with DWI, after cops pulled over his Range Rover at 34th Street and 12th Avenue for having overly-tinted windows. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state's legal limit of 0.08."
I guess Edwards saw that the naughty chair would be free in a couple of weeks.

You have to applaud his comic timing, if nothing else. Possibly not a great idea when you're in a contract year and the team's just brought in a very expensive, very competent player at the same position as you.
