I can't see how a tax can be applied on reimbursement of a business call, as it would be an expense made in pursuit of my job.
It wouldn't be paid back as salary, it would be paid back when I claimed the expense via the expenses system. So I could point back to the claim to any tax inspector that cared to investigate.
Or I could threaten to bill them everything saying I wouldn't own a mobile for any other purpose than work, therefore the whole cost is chargible to them. Then if I did want one for my own purposes I'd buy a seperate one. That would be a pain in the backside though.

Check how they intend to reimburse you. Some of the 'we pay for your fuel' schemes are passed through PAYE as it's tabled as a benefit/allowance somehow.
If you have an in house system it may be legit. I've just seen some dodgy schemes in the past (like culling full value unworked hours from time sheets, but crediting back increments of 15 minutes) by new businesses after takeovers.

The tax explanation on mobile phones is just stupid.
I'll tell them I'll use the same method, to make business calls that they send company memos to me.....
Telepathy.

If you get an itemised bill as part of a post paid plan, they'll still give you the breakdown of the calls you used and how much they cost - it'll just be offset against the free call cap that you get as part of the bill.
They probably won't pay anything more than whatever your plan fee is, but they should reimburse you for all business calls up to that amount. If you're making a lot of calls, you should get there easily enough. If not, pre paid is probably a better option.
And make them pay for the handset, natch.

There will be a fair bit to pay as I use it for Interantional business calls too.

Someone at work has nominated me for a large award, which is nice. Unfortunately he's nominated a large number of people for awards and has been flagged as too open handed. Apparently the one he nominated me for is so big it requires 7 managers to approve it. I'm not holding my breath. If it doesn't get approved all the way up, I think he gets the chance to negotiate downward sor something. The proposal was downgraded from a £1700 proposal to a £35 gift voucher award for Trust.

And next week it will be a £10 gift voucher for B&Q.

It's actually been awarded now so I just have to decide which company I want to redeem my award against. B&Q is in the list. However the award is valid until next June so I can save it in the hope I get more awards and bundle them all together to obtain bigger vouchers. maybe I'll strike lkucky and build up a nice pot to use at an electrical store or something for a new laptop.

You're always doing stuff, so I thought B&Q was the obvious choice.

Well I do need a new chrome flexible shower hose, but I won't be wasting gift vouchers on that.

Yeah you want to be like me and get something exciting from B&Q. Like silicone sealant.
