Aye, tell me about it. Broadband will be one of the first things I sort out, possibly with Tiscali unless anyone has any better options? I can't get cable installed, so it'll have to be internet down the phone line. I hear Tiscali offer sky sports down the phone line, which I can't quite believe. Maybe I've got my wires crossed... There is a Tiscali TV option, but I don't know how it works or what it sends. I have the Tiscali Unlimited Broadband and phone pack for £19.99 a month. If they have an exchange in your area then you don't have to pay a monthy line rental on top of the £19.99 plus all your landline calls and International calls to something like 30 countries for up to 60 minutes per call are free. It's great for me what with my brother living in Australia, I save a fortune on BT. It gets more expensive if you call a lot of mobiles or 0870/0845 type numebrs though. If they don't have an exchange in your area then they will do the line rental for 25% less than BT. The problem you may encoounter is that you will want BT to connect your phone line for which there is a charge and probably a minimum period you have to saty with them, if that's the case, then you could try Tiscali, if they have an exchange in you area, they will connect you for free and give you the phone number if one isn't allocated as long as you sign up with them for 18 months. I know someone who did this in Liverpool. Free phone connection, line rental and phone calls to landlines and selected countries for £19.99 a month. not bad at all. The 8Mb broadband connection speed obviously depends on your exchange and distance form it. I can get up to 6M on a good day when no one else anywhere is using it ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) , on bad days it can drop below 1M on speed tests :moop:. It averages about 3Mb though.

My daughter was involved in a 65mph crash this morning, heavy rain, the car in front of her swerved to miss something, she hit a set of ladders that had fallen off a lorry traveling in front of the swerving car. Her car went airbourne, bounced all over the road and the back end is caved in as when it decided to come back to earth it landed back end first.
It's a write-off, she seems ok but has gone to hospital for a checkup, police closed the dual carriage way for a while whilst the cleaned up the mess and moved the stuff that had fallen off the lorry. They say she is lucky it was a school holiday week as it would probably have been a multi-car pile up and she would probably be dead.
FXD she'll be ok, but I've told her to take a few days off work. Now comes the hassle of waiting for an insurance payout and trying to survive with a courtesy car.

Holy fook!
Very glad she's OK, fella, but that must have been horrific for her. Time off is a good call, it might take her a couple of days to realise what just happened and I'm sure she'd rather be at home for that to hit her.
Nice to see the police are as sympathetic as ever there.

That was really lucky, specially coming out of it without significant injuries. Time off is a must because the shock will be there.

Shite. Nasty stuff, coffs - sounds like her guardian angel was on defcon 6, anyway.
She needs tme off, surely and it might sound clichéd, but getting into a car again soon would be a good plan. I had a crash as a passenger when I was 17 and too young to "get back on the horse" as it were. It contributed mentally to me not passing my test until a couple of months ago...

The shock will last a while, there's no doubt about that, I've been in a couple of lower speed crashes (around 40 mph). One was a head on when some one came around a 90 degree bend in snow and ice on the wrong side of the road, the second was when I had a blowout on black ice on a raised section of the M5 M6 interchange, it caused the car to slew and when traction returned I was heading sideways down the motorway and shot into a concrete wall on the M5 central reservation, the car bounced back across 3 lanes and into a 2 foot snow drift on the hard shoulder. The shock lasted long enough after both of those incidents.

She's contacted the insurance company and they will have a car for her tomorrow hopefully that will be until everything is sorted out, but no doubt that will be a fight.

Jeeze. Fingers crossed she'll be okay, shock can be a right bitch. I remember writing off my Clio and not driving again for about another 4 months - it was really really difficult getting back into it... So glad there's no major injuries.

I can only echo what everyone else on here has already said. Rest is the order of the day, and also as Pop's said, back in ASAP to driving so as not to have what happened to Boony.
Is this the Daughter that your frequently taking care of the Blobs for?

Is this the Daughter that your frequently taking care of the Blobs for? No that's the daughter-in-law. She had the checkup with the usual results from the hospital, ie. just take painkillers and if any pain is no better in a week go back and they'll sort out some physiotherapy. She'll probably feel worse tomorrow once evrything has sunk in, but I've re-iterated that she should stay off work. I shall also advise that she should go after the idiot with the unsecured load big time. She'll probably need injury claims to cover the differnece between the car value and what she currently owes. If it's anything like write-off claims I've had to make in the past, the car was worth more on the road than what the insurance was prepared to pay. At the moment though, we're still in the thankful she's not seriously injured or worse stage.

According to the Spanish law and precedents, my wife tells me a load that falls without a direct impact is an automatic major sign of responsibility towards the lorry. Write-off claims are a ripoff here too, you can take them to court and win but that takes time and money and usually it is not worth it.

If you have a decent insurance company, they'll foot the bill for everything and then sue the insurers of the lorry company.
Insurance companies are funny - when I was working in a law office a while back they'd pay out on the most frivolous of claims, and then be absolute pricks about cast iron open and shut cases.

I got to see the photo of the car last night and full chapter and verse. It seems she hit the ladders which were in the fast lane, the car slewed across into the other lane, hit the kerb and bounced back causing a spin, the car then hit the kerb near the central reservation abounced in the air and the back end came down onto the post suppurting the central barrier. When I say back end it wasn't front up back down it was the underside of the backend, the boot floor was punched back up into the car.
They recovery staff had real problems removing the car from the barrier as they couldn't lift it easily and when tehy tried to pull it off, they were trying to pull against the strongest point on the car wahch was where the barrier post had lodged itself.
She seemed ok in herself, and joked that the attendant police officer had asked her to buy a lottery ticket for him after he'd took her statement. Hopefully there won't be too much delayed shock.
As for the insurance, they sorted out a courtesy car for her yesterday, but it will be delivered today as she couldn't take delivery whilst she was getting checked out at the hospital. Now it's just a wait to see what they offer, that won't come until all the forms are filled in and processed.

There was a French movie about that sort of luck surviving being used in gambling and lotteries and such. Some do think that way, some don't. I'd rather not go through anything close to that to discover if it is true.
That's a hell of a description of the accident there Coffers.

Oh bugger, they want me to do Jury service again, I've been randomly picked, 3 years after being randomly picked last time. FFS! Haven't they got anyone else they can randomly pick?
I think I'm going to have to ask for a deferral as it's smack bang in holiday periods; and we don't have a lot of cover if people go off willy nilly to pronounce the guilt of miscreants.

I've never done jury service. Do they deliberately pick old grouches with chips on their shoulders?

In an unrelated note they picked me twice when I lived in England.
I wasn't really old then though.

I see what you did there. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Unlucky, Coffers, but I think you might have a case if things are that extreme with regards to work. Considering you were there 3 years ago and they'd have record of that, that may work in your favour, as it shows you're not trying to shirk your duty. I'll swap, if you want. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I don't mind doing it, but it's an awkward time. Aren't they all? I don't want to end up on a case that could overrun into my holidays either.
It just seems stupid that they have so many to choose from, that I end up getting picked twice in 3 years. You don't have to do jury service if you have done it within 2 years of the new selection process.
Prior to the stint 3 years ago, I had never been called, Mrs C has never been called at all.
And Boo: it looks that way, the fun bit is that I will get to record a guilty verdict on a whole batch of hubcap bandits, as it's in Liverpoo. I'd have prefered Preston though, as it's easier to get to on public transport.
