What are the places that qulify for Europe? Maybe you need to aim for one of those. It could also be that the Giant is being missed more than you think.
A win, win, my kingdom for a win!

1st goes to the LAC qualifiers, 2nd and 3rd go to the Wafer Cup as do the Cup winners. 4th goes into the Tutu Cup, i think, but there may be a proviso of some sort on that.
Things don't seem to be going as nicely in the league as I would have wanted, no, but as soon as I get knocked out of the Wafer Cup, I hope things will get better. Debrecen have been awesome so far and fully deserve their position. They won the first division in the first two seasons on the game and with the money bought General Error and Picture Exclusive amongst others.
I can't quite put my finger on why we're not doing as well this season, although I am probably asking for too much after our great season last time. I think we over achieved last season, finishing third was magnificent and we got lucky with some results towards the end, i feel. There seems to be a few players unhappy at the moment, which isn't helping, thinking they need to move on for their careers, some not getting first team action. I think there are a few out of contract too, so it remains to be seen how many of those playing now will be there in the summer. That may decide whether or not I am to continue with this game.

The game, or jumping ship to another team? Though, from my experience, and even after winning the UEFA Cup, I still found it hard to get jobs and ended up taking on positions that were lesser considering what I had won.
It looks like the teams in transition, and needs to be rebuilt again. That was the reason I jumped ship from Piast to Slavia Prague. That reminds me, I really should write up another Lorca update, as I've played a little bit more. This game can really shit you at times.

I wouldn't jump ship, i would just stop the game. I'd like to try Brazil before FM '07 comes out and that would take a while before I could get out of Division 3 with 16 groups of 8 and two promotion places and into proper leagues. We'll have to see how far I get in the Wafer Cup, if anywhere and see if I feel I could rebuild in such a limited time. I think my midfield is fine, just the strikers that are whinging and my Paraguayan keeper too. He'd be missed, although it would free up a forriner place.

Fairy Muff, though now that you mention Brazil, it does sound interesting. I've never played in South America.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, probably, South America is a lot of fun. I haven't played in Argentina out of principle, but Brazil's lower leagues are nuts and the State Championships make you want to cry. There is so much talent to be picked up it's unreal and as it all goes elsewhere, you tear your hair out. Gotta love it though.

November 2010Our second game in the Wafer Cup group stages was away to Sevilla. Yes, the same Sevilla who had been runners up in the past two seasons. Bugger. They were quoted by the bookies at 1-8 favourites, us a modest 12-1 against. Generous. So, you can tell that these lot were a decent team, their movement was fantastic. However, when you punt the ball 60 yards towards Picture Exclusive and you get French Guitarist anticipating the knock on and then for him to lob the advancing keeper from 25 yards, you tend to get a little excited. I spilled my beer. A minute later, we were equal again. from then on, it was pressure, just lots of pressure, culminating in a 36th minute effort that was ruled offside. On 45 mins though, French Guitarist was tripped at the edge of the area. Surely not! Up Periscope curled one in. Errr…. So backs to the wall for as long as we can and we lasted till 78 mins on the clock before I felt we needed to change things around, French Guitarist who had been excellent was knackered and injured, so he made way. Cue defensive duties for all, without exception and we held on for a magnificent win, 2-1. :thumb: Reality bites. Away to ZTE who played some daft 3-5-2 thingie. We’ll give it half an hour to see how we get on against this formation, we have the personnel on the pitch to be able to switch, with Kublai Khan wide on the right who could go inside if needed. One down in the first minute from a corner wasn’t a great start. The rest of the half annoyed me, we had most of the possession, but very little quality in their half. The commentary said the home side were the better side, I couldn’t complain with that assessment really. The second half was no better, they scored another and ran out easy 2-0 victors. Hmmm… reality bites indeed. As an aside from the humdrum of the league and beating Sevilla, Master Of Puppets was dong very nicely indeed, playing for both the U19s and reserve side for Motim and for the U19s for the national team. He was looking a fantastic prospect. My dilemma was that I had two very good DMs in the first team, but I really wanted to test this guy out. We’ll have to wait for an opportunity. Diósgyõr were next up at Wittman Antal Park and they were flying in 2nd place. This should have been a straight forward game, but our indifferent form meant that it wasn’t. French Guitarist started off on a mission and looked lively, getting a peno on 16 mins and a red card for the lad who had brought him down. A decision nobody could argue against, Frenchie was one on one. Chemical stuck it away with great aplomb. [/cliché] The sending off only game the away side more impetus though, and they came close on a couple of occasions. Their three at the back seemed to be mopping up everything coming their way, which worried me. We made it 4-3-3 hoping to worry the opposition and tighten it up through the middle. It seemed to work as Picture Exclusive scored our second after some confusion over the marking. From then on, the away side looked deflated and we had a goal ruled offside late on, but 2-0 was a nice boost for our side. The bad news from the game was a thigh strain for keeper Fortune Cookie, meaning he would be out for about a month, missing our Wafer group games. Turntable Jnr was first choice keeper for the Red Star game, with yoof You Do Too called up to the squad. Poor bugger. I saw no reason to change the side and we had an early chance to score from a corner, but their keeper making a good save. Then something very bizarre happened. Red Star on the attack, they whipped a ball into the are, it was cleared by Monster Monster and it fell to Up Periscope in the middle of the park. He tried to sweep the ball upfield, but it hit the referee and rebounded to an unmarked striker in the box. 0-1. We equalised on 34, with a left wing throw in finding Final Chapter in the box, he turned his marker and drilled a cross along the floor where Plastic Fantastic popped it into the net. We kept the pressure on even after the break, but the away side showed their class by taking the lead on 68, a defensive slip by Down To Earth let in their striker who gave Turntable Jnr no chance, even from 25 yards. We kept plugging away, creating chances, having possession, but they were too good defensively, we lost 1-2 and it meant that we needed to beat Basel away in our last game and hope Leverkusen slipped up too. Our last game in the month took us to bottom of the table Sopron, who looked strange down at the bottom. With only three points from 12 games though, there had to be something wrong. Be wary was my first thought. Picture gave us the lead on 8th minute with a cheeky header, Final Chapter should have made it two moments later but spooned it wide. We were pegged back on 25, but Final Chapter showed his class on 30, taking the ball from inside his own half to slot past the keeper. Three minutes later and another equaliser and it was on again. 3-2 to us on 39, with French Guitarist toe poking it after a sweeping move. Lily Glue tucked away a dubious penalty on the hour mark and I decided that was enough and pulled people back. Unfortunately they score to make it 4-3 with ten minutes to go and the nails were being bitten. We were holding on under some intense pressure, but the home side equalised in the fourth minute of injury time and I was severely annoyed.

Cheers. Aye, this season is definitely an annoying one. Hopefully December will bring about some stability, not that it matters, I'm pretty much swaying towards wrapping this one up at the end of the season, as none of the OOC players are wanting to re-sign. There's too many of them to be replaced without a complete rebuild and I'm not sure I have the patience for it.

December 2010After playing hell with the team, I gave them a chance to pay me back for my loyalty. 19 minutes gone and Basel were creating some decent chances, but we were clinging on, not what we wanted to do, naturally, but we had to. Man With Boobs had to replace Final Chapter who was injured and it just seemed to be one of those days. Our first chance wasn’t until the 26th minute, Picture Exclusive shooting high and wide after a nice through ball from French Guitarist. For some reason, Plastic Fantastic delivered a cross field ball on the half way line and gifted the ball to the opposition, 0-1 and we’re looking at an early exit from the competition. Changes required, we brought on Flatulent Fox and Kublai Khan changing the formation a little and it worked immediately, Man With Boobs putting pressure on the keeper and causing a mistake which he capitalised on. Game on. Again. But they were too quick for us and we conceded again on 84 after some good pressure. We were out of the competition, but got a fair wodge of cash for our efforts. With it, we would try to get the first teamers to sign new contracts and hopefully have enough to spend on a new recruit or two in January. While the others are playing their silly league games, we take on Fehérvár at home in the 4th round of the cup. We make a few changes, because of exhaustion, but I feel we should have enough to win this. The first half was all the away side, they completely dominated possession but were let down by lacklustre finishing. The same happened in the second half, so we changed some of our more tired players for other tired players. It made no difference and the game ended 0-0. Four days later and we went for the 2nd leg. Joy. We put out a better team but still conceded after 2 mins. We fought back though, creating a few chances and getting the better of possession, culminating in a Picture Exclusive knock down to French Guitarist blast from six yards type equaliser and we went into the break level. The home side went ahead again early in the second half, but Man With Boobs equalised with 19 minutes to go, giving us the advantage on away goals. We pulled people back and went to grind it out. Sub Flatulent Fox then scored two minutes after coming on, sealing the match. A lovely 25 yard curler into the corner. A home equaliser gave us a jittery last few minutes, but we held on. Yay! We get Pécs in the next round. Ferencváros were next, at their place and our guys looked tired, but we have to rally on. Of course, we conceded a silly goal early doors and seemingly fighting a losing battle. The home side just didn’t give us a sniff through the game and should have won by more than the 1-0 scoreline. The result meant we slipped to 9th. The fun doesn’t stop with Gyõr at their place in a local derby. We must beat these fookers if we wanted to get anywhere near the Wafer places this season. Again, an early goal conceded, but this time we didn’t fold. Plastic Fantastic came inside his marker to meet a Chemical Movement cross from the left to head in from 12 yards out. Soon after Chemical converted a penalty and we were in the lead. It only seemed to spur Gyõr on though and we had Turntable Jnr to thank for keeping them at bay, until a pearler in the 39th minute. Then another one for them after some quick passing caught us flat footed. 2-3 at the break and again, I was unhappy. Plastic Fantastic was fouled in the box from a corner and Chemical grabbed his second peno. So when Frenchie got a goal with one of his trademark breaks from midfield, I was delighted, my bollocking at HT seemed to have worked. But then the scum came back at us, getting their fourth from a free kick. It ended 4-4, which only proved to me that Turntable Jnr, despite his great shot stopping ability, wasn’t going to be our first choice keeper. Ever. Újpest were on good form and took an early 20 lead, but we managed to get both back with two fabulous strikes from Argentinean Man With Boobs. Then they retook the lead and we were behind at HT AGAIN! Another goal for the home side and we were looking sunk. We dropped to 11th in the league and with another game before the winter break, we had to get something to stop the rot. 2-4. Honvéd deserved their 2-1 home win against us and I could have no complaints. We finish the first half of the season nowhere near the top.

What a frustrating update, it's no wonder you are thinking of jacking it in. You're looking safe enough from releagtion and a cup is a posibility, but the indifferent league form is a worry. You have a lot of ground to make up if you are going to get a UEFA spot for next season.

I'd be immensely ticked off with that run of results, especially if the team didn't deserve it. A win, or even a mini run in the league would be a nice turnaround about now. I bet your players are low on morale, and it might be a case of playing the ones who have better morale now. Could be worth a shot.

Ten points behind third placed Újpest means we have very little chance of getting into Europe through that route, I'm afraid. I know we still have thirteen games left, but I feel it is far too big a gap, considering our squad problems. They are lacking in morale and the main cause is how many players want to move on. French Guitarist, Picture Exclusive, Fortune Cookie, and a couple of others all want to go. And they are the ones in contract. There are about10 others in the squad, I'd say six of them regular first teamers who aren't willing to sign a new contract. The problem I have (and I was going to say this in the updates, I still may, but I'll say it now too) is that with my indecision about staying and the expected huge turnover of players, do I really have the patience or drive to get what is a decent core of players moulded with some new recruits and play another couple of seasons. To be honest, I'm not sure I have. As it's now January and the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks (in Hungary it's mid Jan to mid Feb) there will undoubtably be players I can ship out and ship in to improve my squad. I don't have any Wafer games to worry about so there are no restrictions there. I do have the FA Cup so I would have to be careful not to leave my squad depth too light due to cup-tied players. I do have about €3m in the bank with about €1m to spend (I think, it's probably less) so I could redesign the squad. To be honest, it's not like bringing in a brand new squad would disrupt the harmony, as there isn't any. I might have to bite the bullet and sell the stars who are out of contract, get as much in as I can and try and get some castoffs from somewhere, like most of my players have been to be fair. For instance Up Periscope was bought in for only a couple of grand and is worth about 300k now. I'll see what I can do in the window.

In the deals, see if you can get them to have the transfer at the end of the season. They'll play much better for you and you get money to play with next season. It's a system I use in the Transfer Market.

January 2011I decided that whatever choice I make at the end of the season, whether or not to stay or pack in, I would make then. In the meantime, I had a squad to rebuild. There were a number of players in the reserves and first team that were refusing to sign new contracts, so would need replacing. Hopefully, it would be with cheaper players that had potential to shine at an over-achieving club. Incoming at the start of the window was old favourite General Error for a knock down fee of 65k from Debrecen. Yes, I’m a sneaky shit, again. Especially when I get 20k back for his sell on fee. Also in are Slack Minge (GK, 5k, Tatabánya), Fourth In Line (WBL, 16k, REAC), Half Nelson (GK, 2k, Debrecen), and Copied Graphics (DC, 3k, Bodajk-Siófok) with more to come, I’m sure. Keeper Bardo In Europe left for a minimal fee to Héviz. He’d been great when he was here, just what we needed at the time, but we moved on and he was 38 now. Old codger. February 2011Captain Beefheart left us to go to Pénzugyõr for 5k. He was out of contract in the summer, so we accepted any cash we could. We had a couple of other reserve and youth strikers, so it shouldn’t matter too much. We tried to sign a right back and a central midfielder, but we couldn’t agree terms with them both. They would have been squad regulars for sure, but we would have to wait until the summer to revisit those two. Before the season restarted, we had two friendlies to attend to, Pasching beating us 4-2 at home, Banik Ostrava well beaten by three goals to one. Fitness levels up, just what I wanted to happen. The season restarted with a home game with REAC, who were in 13th and in the same poor form as us. We gave debuts to Copied Graphics and General Error on his return to the club. Final Chapter was recovering after picking up a knock in our last game and Man With Boobs could consider himself unlucky not to be starting. Picture Exclusive got the game going scoring after 13 minutes. It was a scrappy goal which also led to an injury to General Error who then was replaced. Chemical Movement was then limping midway through the half but was kept on, Lily Glue waiting in the wings. Think Of A Number then gave the visitors a gilt edged chance at the end of the half, misplacing a pass and their striker took the goal well. Bah! On the hour mark, Man With Boobs connected with a superb inswinging free kick from Chemical with his head and we went 2-1 up. I was in two minds about what to do, keep it the same or defend the lead. I decided to take it a little easier. The away side couldn’t get near our passing play and were looking tired. On 75, Chemical Movement beat two men before cutting the ball back from the dead ball line for Picture Exclusive to get his second of the afternoon. A fine and much needed 3-1 win in the bag.

March 2011
We kept the same side for the home game with Haladás apart from Lily Glue coming in for Chemical Movement. The away side absolutely dominated the game, but we managed to hold out until the 40th minute when French Guitarist was caught in possession in the centre circle, then a quick pass or two later and a carefully measured shot into the far corner, a la Terry Henry. However, it seemed to wake us up and within two minutes, we had had two chances, both to General Error, the second converted with a towering header from a deep cross. The second half replicated the first, but without the goals. It finished level at 1-1.
We did however manage to have a major injury, Fortune Cookie suffering concussion and could be out for a couple of weeks. Estonian Half Nelson would start and Hungarian Slack Minge would be on the bench.
Debrecen were next up, again at home, on 12th March, they were in good form and looking like a good side again, leading the league by six points. We lasted two minutes before conceding. We then lasted another 14 minutes before having to sub our keeper, so we introduced Slack Minge to the natives. Ahem. So back to the game and Lily Glue got lamped, so had to come off at half time for debutant Fourth In Line, where encouragement was the order of the day. I don’t think they could have withstood any hair drier treatment. Poor buggers. It seemed to work, as Picture Exclusive scored twice, the second intercepting a back pass for the keeper and he slid the ball home from fully 40 yards. We tried to shut up shop, but Debrecen showed their class, scoring twice in the last ten minutes. Hmmm.
Half Nelson had twisted his ankle and would be out for a month. I had faith in Slack Minge, so that was OK. I suppose.
The following Wednesday was the first leg of the Cup QF away at Pécs and I didn’t hold out much hope to be honest. We weren’t playing that well, so we needed to pull our socks up. It didn’t happen, we lost 2-0 and were looking at an exit in a week.
Our travels took us to Kaposvár and the home side took advantage of our nervousness putting us under a lot of pressure early doors. They couldn’t capitalise though until the 61st minute, so we made changes and Final Chapter got an equaliser with quarter of an hour to go. In the dying minutes, we were down to 10 men, an injury to French Guitarist after I had used all three subs. From the resulting free kick, the ever dangerous Chemical Movement put one in the top corner for a 2-1 lead. An underserved lead, I may add. Just after that we were down to nice, an injury to centre half Elderly Blue, but we managed to hold on for the vital win.
Elderly Blue would be out for about a month with a thigh strain and French Guitarist broke his foot and would be out for between three and five months, or the season, as it’s known in the trade.
I was declared odd son favourite for the Sopron job after the Sopron board sacked their manager. I said I didn’t want the job, they were in 14th place and in a worse financial situation, so there would be little point. However, I was still offered the job, with a tempting €1200 per week wages instead of the miserly €375 I was currently on. I still declined it. :checkit:
We tried to get stuck into Pécs in the second leg of the QF, narrowly missing two chances in the first ten minutes, but a combination of a keeper and a post thwarted us. The first half was a very open affair, with both sides wanting a goal for different reasons, us to get into the tie, Pécs to seal the deal. The first half ended goalless, but the second didn’t. We managed to grasp a lifeline after 59 minutes when Think Of A Number pounced on an error in midfield and slotted a precise ball down the channel for Picture Exclusive to take around the keeper and place the ball into an empty net. Game on. On 79 we struck again, another wayward back pass and sub General Error took the shot early and outfoxed the keeper. We had ten minutes to save our season. It went to extra time though and there were a lot of tired legs on both sides. Despite this, we dominated both periods, peppering their goal without much of a response. It had penos written all over it though. We lost the shootout 3-1 and were out of the cup. I thought we were unlucky on the balance of the two legs.
Fortune Cookie also suffered a bruised jaw, so would be out for a little while. Great, more injuries. [/Souness]
