Bit of a waffle this, but hopefully it will give you some pointers on how to make a fast buck if you have a bit tof NG to start you off.
There are a number of ways of increasing your NG in the game, some better than others:
1. The first way is to play the game as much as you can and hit Eagles/Birdies/Pars all day long to boost you NG, obviously winning games will be a help too. But this is long and laborious and it may take you a long time to get to a point where you can afford decent clubs.
2. A second way is to beg more expeirnced and richer players for handouts, it can work but is frowned upon, much as begging is in modern day society.
3. Pay real cash in the mall and use it to buy items that can be sold in the square. This is good and is a fast way to riches if you can afford it and buy the right items. (I'll list those below). Spending $10 in the Mall will give you 1000 points of Cyber Cash, that's enough to buy 2 Fitting Tickets (or 2 Mageia II's) plus a Mospos II. This should reap a sale price of around 10.6M NG, less SO's cut. At todays exchange rates $10 is somewhere between £5 to £6 real money.
4. Trade items in the square for NG. Used in conjunction with 3 above this can raise significant amounts of NG. Without using 3 above, then you really need to buy items for what is considered a low price and sell them for a decent profit. It can be done but sometimes it can be a long slog. Some traders claim to be able to make 10 to 20M NG per week doing this. It is probably possible if you buy the correct items at decent prices, which you know can be sold for a lot more. The thing to remember is that SO take a 5% commission on anything you sell, which is taken up front before the sale. So you need to be able to afford the commission before the sale takes place.
So the real question is what is a good price for each item and are the best things to try to sell?
A good place to start is to look at the Price Watch tab at www.sonews.net/modules.php?name=Price_Watch this will give you an idea of the prices you can expect to receive for items that you sell. Personally I think some of the prices are a little high, but it's a good starting point for bartering. Given that early on you may not have a lot of NG, then you will have to buy some of the cheaper items cheaply and try to make a bit of profit after SO's cut is removed and then build up from there.
PLEASE NOTE THESE PRICES ARE NOT ALWAYS UP TO DATE. THE AUCTION HOUSE IS A GOOD PLACE TO CHECK TO SEE WHAT ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY SELLING FOR.
Items That Will Sell:
Zodiac 100's +6 Power and +6 Impact: will sell for 800k to 900k or even over 1M sometimes, if you can buy for 600k or less then you are onto a winner.
Zodiac 100's +6 Skill can be sold, but it is harder work, 900k may be obtainable but 750k is possibly more realistic, so if you can buy for 6500k or less you have a chance of making profit.
Zodiac 100's +6 Stamina Personally I'd avoid these like the plague, but if you can get one for 150k, I can usually get 230k for it at auction fairly easily. On another note; having read a discussion on how Stamina affects accuracy of shots, especially to the Green, it might be possible that there may be a market for these items, it's just a matter of finding the right person to sell to.
Zodiac 500's and 1000's apply similar logic to these as you would to the Zod 100's, just they have 500 or 1000 uses as opposed the 100 uses of the Zod 100's. Therefore they should be 5 or about 10 times dearer respectively.
Zodiac +2 to all Stats 100's Can be sold for around 750k, don't expect to find too many bargains. See the Price Watch site and auction house for other prices.
Fitting Tickets These can always be sold for between 8M and 11M per ticket use at auction, especially power tickets. ie a ticket with one use left can be sold for 10M a ticket with 3 uses left can be sold for 30M. You will hardly ever find anyone accepting less. So these are things that you would buy in the mall purely to sell for NG in the square. At 420 Cyber Cash points each these beat Mageia II's in the value for money stakes, if you are going down that route.
Cyma You can always sell these for about 20k per use left. Therefore a Cyma I (100 uses) can be sold for 2M NG, a Cyma II (250 uses left) can easily be sold for 4M to 5M if you can buy a Cyma II for less than 4M then you have a good chance of making a profit. NOTE: unless you are a high level player hitting birdies and Eagles on Rufus, Cadaiger or Abel Plains regularly with three other players, then you will make more selling Cyma's than you will aquire by using them whilst playing. If you cannout make 20k per hole or more by using this item then sell i t in the square/auction.
Mageias The Mageias I (100 use) will sell for 3MNG, the Mageias II (250 use) will sell for 7M to 8M NG, don't take anything less. They will be hard to come by cheaply but are the nearly the best value for converting Cyber Cash spent in the Mall to NG in the square. If you can get one cheap and sell for 8M then you are quids in. Mageias II's are 2nd only to Fitting tickets in the value for money stakes for converting Cyber Cash bought items into NG. I personally feel that they can probably be sold a bit easier than fitting tickets.
Recovery Tickets Now these are recent items that rock, they can be sold for around 13M easily and you may get around 15M to 17M per use if someone is desperate.
Other items that will sell: Fedoras, Haomas and Odelile's. see Price Watch or the auctiona house for good selling prices.
As far as clubs and other Rare itmes go, it's a matter of keeping an eye on the market and the price watch site. Antique Irons and Woods generally sell easily, and if you can get a set with fiitings for the price of a basic set then you should be able to sell for a profit, as each fitting techically adds another 8M to 10M NG to the value. So a basic set of Antique Irons that would sell at say 6M should sell at 16M with a fitting ticket applied, but it won't actually realise the full value of the ticket.
Aeolos drivers will sell, but whether you can get them cheap to sell on, at a profit, is open to debate.
The higher priced Nado's, Tornados, Tempest and Hurricane clubs can usually be readily sold for good money, again getting them at a bargain price is another matter. Note Tempests have significantly dropped in value since the introduction of t he auction house and should be avoided if you are attempting to realise profits out of them.
What does this tell us? Well just as in real life, trading is risky, you pay your money and take a chance. You will always get chancers trying to tell you you are asking way too much for an item, you can easily deflect them if you know the market. They are probably traders trying to get items on the cheap to sell on for the profit you wanted to make. You will always find someone in the square that will take an item off your hands, it's just a matter of how low you are prepared to go to sell it.
As with a lot of trading, fast turnover of lower priced items can be better than trying for the one big sale.
Don't forget, in order to complete a sale you need enough NG in your inventory to fund the SO 5% cut.
NOTE: The Red Square is best for trading, that's why it's always full, well that and it's where Guilds tend to meet and play. If the Red square is full then the White square is next best, but only on busy weekends. It doesn;t matter where you access the auction house from, it's the same in every server.
