Oh, and I've just finished Not The End Of The World by Christopher Brookmyre. First novel of his I've picked up, and I'll definitely be hunting down more. The last quarter was a wee bit of a letdown after an absolutely stonking opening and middlegame, but still cracking entertainment. I'm all about interesting characters interacting in interesting ways, me.

I was sat in Barbados airport, packed with lobster pink Brit tourists and in a row of twelve, ten people were reading Dan Brown books, 8 of which were Da Vinci Code.
Weird, and mighty sad, might I add.

Very wierd, but regardless of what critics say about Dan Brown, it's all very easily readable when you you don't want to think too hard.

Coffs, I think you'll find it's "when you aren't capable of thinking too hard".
Close, but no cigar.

I didn't think Brown's prose was easily readable. It seemed to go CLUNK on every other page.

Maybe speed reading misses the clunks.

Don't get me wrong, coffs- I've read Da Vinci Code. Some intriguing little things, much of which I had read of before in the Leigh and Bagent book (ooh, controversial), but as a story and style of writing it was absolutely chronic. Certainly wouldn't induce to read anything else by him.
On The Decemberists- very spookily we went round to a friend's last night and there, staring me in the face, is a Decemberists album. They had been lent it by someone and hadn't listened to it. I borrowed it and listened today. It's called Her Majesty- has some nice moments and a couple of good tracks- Billy Liar I loved- but seemed a little stilted. I'm not one to judge on one or two listens, though. More eartime will follow.

On the train into work, it's spot who isn't reading a Dan Brown book.
I didn't know there was a Mobius Dick and a Moby Dick. I've heard both before but thought the talk was about the same book. :cab:

I'm a going flying today so I'll be picking up a book to read this morning. You'll be pleased to hear that Dan Brown will not, under any ciorcumstances, be featuring.

Booo. That's such a boring choice. How about Da Davinci Code?

I have to say the The Da Vinci Code is one of the worst written books I've read in the last 30 years. And I've actually read a Harry Potter book. The "Did you mount her" line literally had me cringing in embarrassment. I mean, you thought that was a good line to throw in there for comic relief Dan? How very Carry On of you.
Christopher Brookmyre is gweat, hornet. Just don't be expecting much in the way of variety. And, obviously, his early stuff is the best.

If you think Dan Brown is bad then you should try Colin Forbes, now he is truely dreadful.

MEant to add that the Decemberists remind me a lot of early Levellers.
And the new series of Green Wing still has me in soggy pants.

As asking in the TD forums felt futile, I might as well post here to drive that point home.
I'm looking for a decent RPG game that will run on my pc:
AXP 2400+ 1GB DDR R9100
So, Morrowind?

Last book I read was a foreign one that got translated.
Was translated as Babylon but the original's called HomoZapiens, as far as I can remember.
It was funny and I liked how it didn't just plod along and lose it's way, new things happened like new characters and stuff. Miles better than intro->meet the cast->story, more like intro->meet the cast->something happens->weee new person->and another->ah no he was just out of it and was looking at a mirror->etc. only with fun parts and Stalin playing Monopoly!
Russia sounds shite, by the way.
Not a clue who wrote it. Peter Purvis, or someone.
I've just realised this was the last book I read but I actually read it yonks ago.

I've now got American Rhapsody to read as well, and have started again on Moby Dick. For some reason, I can't find my first book in the series of The Wheel of Time, a book I've owned since 1993, and need to start with if I'm going to re-read the series. I've instead placed an inter-library loan at Sydney Uni's library so I can read it instead. I'm a little perplexed about where it has gone.

I'm re-reading "Getting Started in Hold 'Em" by Ed Miller. It's about learning how to play with your nuts.

You might want to take your time with that, as it looks like Jordan is going to die before he finishes the next book, let alone the whole series. He has some rare blood disease, with a median life expectancy of about four years.

I'm looking for a decent RPG game that will run on my pc: Either of the KoTOR games should fly on that system. Or Planescape, natch. And yeah, Oblivion should run in some size, shape or form.

Can he by any chance take Ian Irvine and David Gemmell with him?

I mean the Blue Peter badges get kids into Legoland for free or something, not reading the book.

I know what you meant. ;¬)
On a related note, I can't wait to see the new way of Blue Peter getting kids into places for free. Not that I watch Blue Peter or anything. Although that "new" Irish presenter is teh cute.
