She'd have to pay me, and then only so long as I got to wear a paper bag over my head.

I suspect a few people would pay you to put a bag on your head, DC.

For some reason, I can't find my first book in the series of The Wheel of Time, a book I've owned since 1993, and need to start with if I'm going to re-read the series. You might want to take your time with that, as it looks like Jordan is going to die before he finishes the next book, let alone the whole series. He has some rare blood disease, with a median life expectancy of about four years. As long as he finishes the series he's still working on, I'll be kind of happy considering the way the spawny git has dragged out the last couple in the series :moop: Oh, and he left a message somewhere saying he wants to be around for another 30+ years to write another series he has ready to write. We shall see on teh death part.

Currently reading: "That's Out" by Dickie Bird. Which appears to have been written around the mid 1980's because; only 3 Cricket World Cup Series had been played at the point of publication. Dickie continually says that electronic aids (apart from light meters) will have no part to play in cricket. He was a great and respected umpire but that's one call that I think he got wrong.

Did no-one tell you cricket was shit?
Finished The Alchemist recently- bit biblical.
And also Stuart- A Life Backwards. That was really good. About a drugged up homeless psycho who lived in Cambridge (it's non-fiction). Well worth a read.

1985 Coffs. And I think he changed his mind a little towards the end, though I prefer to see the refs get the decisions 'right' by just not being crap judges rather than having electronic aids to make decisions for them.

Don't take it to heart- I'm just being a cantankerous old fook. It's in the contract.
And besides, 87.9% is also tosh and tekkin' t' piss.
Except for the cricket, obviously, which is shit.
Everyone knows that.

And Ice Age 2, which is also shit, by the way. I can be swayed by most comical pixellated efforts and Ice Age was great, but Ice Age 2 is not. No effort has been put in to make it anything but a cash-in sequel with the brains of a small bath sponge.

I am clearly showing signs of senility as, in the last 3 months, I've picked up two books and thought "Oooh! Why haven't I read that?", only to remember half-way through that I have actually read it. Not in the first 20-30 pages mind. Literally half-way through. And I haven't been able to remember everything that happens after I've remembered that either.
I'm getting old.

Personally I blame the 8108. Conveniently.
It's great actually. I've always wished they'd invented a selective memory remover so you can reread books as new, rewatch films etc etc. Apparently they have. It's called senility.

Bring it on. Although having given this considerable thought, it always worried me that I might not like Star Wars if I watched it memory-less. What if I ended up liking, ooh, I dunno, Dirty Dancing? I'd rather keep what I've got.

At least you've got a career path. I hear there might be openings in the AUstralian Government for people who can remember reading something only after they've been asked, or remember seeing the book but not knowing what it's about. I'd send in your resume ASAP.

Went to see the dreaded Chris Rea last night at the Liverpool Philharmonic, the gig was one bit of his Farewell Tour. Not a bad night in all, but the first 20 minutes was very much deep south blues influenced. In fact it was almost depressing, until he went a bit more upbeat. I felt that he was playing for himself though, rather than the audience. Having said that he was better live than his recorded albums or singles suggest. I was impressed with the support act, a young lad from Derry with an accoustic guitar called Paul Casey, but not impressed enough to buy a CD at the gig. Now sits back to await the flak, especially from Stu.

Chris Rea? Didn't he have, um, a song, about, cars and chicks and such? About Driving?
Have I said too much yet?

Chris Rea? Didn't he have, um, a song, about, cars and chicks and such? About Driving? Have I said too much yet? You mean: Driving Home For Christmas? Others you might have heard of are: Stainsby Girls, I can Hear Your Heartbeat, Let's Dance (which was rereleased as one of those FA Cup Finals songs, when Boro played Chelsea at Wembley in 1996) and the dreaded Road To Hell.

A woman at work said exactly the same thing when she went to see him a couple of weeks ago up here. And she hates "Road To Hell" too.
