I want to be so shit at my job that I can't get fired but don't have to do anything Maybe the board should pool its knowledge and start a company to spread our teachings throughout the world. Because, obviously, starting a company would be a feasible project for us.

You have to wait for Al Davis to die.
Meanwhile, I might be up for a new-new job shortly, which would almost certainly mean I'll be missing in action for long stretches, unless I buy a new-new-new car and have it respecced like a police car with a laptop on the dashboard.

Sounds like buying the new new new car is the only option then, get to it.

Just get her new boyfriend to ask me where I am the next time he writes to me to call me a cunt. But seriously, the new job would come with more money, but on the downside it'd require me to be "visible" (a downside for everyone, I'm sure), rather than just sit at the dining room table 12 hours a day sending people emails saying "get on with some work you lzy bostord" and playing FOF.

Sounds horrendous. I can't envisage why you'd want to change. Other than the money, obv. The bank I work onsite at, just told over 500 contracters to leave the premises on Friday and yesterday, they would be aid to teh end of the month. The cull is starting as the new owners shelve unwanted projects in favour of their own offerings, some of the contracters have been there more than 4 years.

We could see belts being tightened at Opal before I leapt from the parapet to teach them a lesson in humility. First thing to go - contractors. Unfortunately they also tended to be the best workers for the company because their pay was based on their performance - unlike the lazy bostords we employed elsewhere whose performance was based on the colour underwear they were wearing, and if it was visible when they leaned forward (either end). Next to go was an entire division of support dedicated to TTB, mobile contracts are in Portsmouth...oh, and there's this weird thing going on in Nottingham with some bloke from Scotland called Alistair designing a whole new billing platform just for him and a few mates and "don't worry, this wont mean you're redundant - we plan on running two costly systems alongside each other for no reason we can think of, just please please please don't leave". Amusingly I already know that they're billing every single Voda mobile customer wrong, and are doing nothing to fix it because...err...they don't even know it's wrong (i.e. I found it, and I'm not telling 'them' what they need to fix for free).

With less than a month to go does anyone know when the demo will be coming out? They never mention anything until they know for definate when the game is out. However, they have stated the release date already (November 14th) and it's usually two weeks before the game is out, we're probably looking at the end of this month. I know they're still doing a lot of beta testing, esp with the renewed transfer coding, but they're confident of getting it all sorted by the end of next week, when the code goes to gold. I don't know if you have seen anywhere, Stewpot, but they're releasing the demo through Steam. I don't have an account there and I don't know if you have to have one to get the demo and I'm blocked at work for finding out.

Oh noes! They come to their senses and are now talking about "freezing development of the database" and I'm informed there's a "50/50" chance that they're going to get rid of my position. My interpretation of 50/50 is 50% chance they get rid of it and 50% chance they don't keep it.
If they do that then I have to show that (with training) I can do someone else's job in the company, as long as they've been there for less time than me. As I've been there 8 years I hope I can find something but it will be something really crap that I'll hate (and will involved proper work).
Bugger.

Merry Christmas. :moop:
Bad news, Narkle, hopefully they'll come to their senses and realise that all you need is to work more efficiently and cut off your tinternet access. Then you'd keep your job, your company will retain an efficient employee and we won't get to see you.
Win-win-win.

Happily, I have made myself so invaluable to my new boss that I've just got a 16% payrise and other staff are probably whinging about me.
Yay me.
The downside being, clearly, I am stupid busy and lack time to talk good old-fashioned 100% down-to-earth poop on here.
