Right then, so a result on a $5 SNG later and we're able to get a licence for Total College Basketball, a sim-type game that deals with Hoops. As I know three-fifths of fook all about the sport, never mind how it works in college, I'm screwed. And ugly. We have a Conference prestige of 22/100 and a team prestige of 17/100. The team goals are to finish in the top 3 of the Conference and to win at least 10 games. They haven't seen my FM resume have they? The GUI itself looks very busy on this game, I thin kit will take me some time to get used to what is going on here, so you'll have to bear with me until panic sets in.

Probably. In other news, I won my first game, because I looked at the game plans and picked the right options. (Did that sound right? Is there any game plans?)

You had six more turnovers and scored twelve more fast break points - 6 "field goals" = 12 points, which was your winning margin. Your big man and point guard also drew a lot of fouls and sank most of their free throws.
Did that sound convincing?

I did what now? I also won my second game. Maybe this WTF attitude is the right way to go. In other news, I feel coffers' pain when not being able to recruit anyone at all, whilst playing a game I know fook all about. I'm doomed.

You need to watch "Mike and Mike" now - it's all about college basket ball at the moment, because "March Madness" playoffs are about to start.
Every year they have a bet and the lose has to complete a forfeit. After winning the first, Greenberg has last the last three - if he loses this year he has to dye his hair a different colour every day for a week, which considering he loves his hair second only to his family is quite bad for him.
If Golic loses he has to enter one of those professional eating tournaments, with the idea that he'll be put off of eating hotdogs by haivng to wedge 60 of them in his mouth in a minute and then puke.

We seem to have reached a halfway point of sorts, with the inter-Conference games about to start, this is our results page. I have no idea what is going on here, but we seem to have a few wins. Now what I've done is take Stu's advice to Coffers about the TCY thing on board - try to understand the recruiting first, then get involved with the game plans later. I watche done of our games earlier in the season and had no idea how to change anything. Yes, much like FM. I have a list of about 10 who are available and interested in joing our college, but none of them have committed, as it seems to be that they may be waiting for other colleges to jump in. It's a very frustrating time for me, and I don't know if walk-ons exist in the Hoops.

Walk ons exist in all college sports, so you won't be left without players if you don't manage to recruit a full set. But they're walk ons for a reason.
Also, good work on beating Jim Davidson. :humb:

I completely understand the recruiting frustrations you and Coffers were both having though. And there seems to be nothing I can do for now and I'll have to wait until the end of the season.

A quite disastrous end to the season, as you can see. Final standings for our conference, nowhere near the required top 3 place. And we entered a play off for the conference. We beat Boston U in the prelim rd, but fell to the #1 seeds. There are a host of tourneys to be entered into, none of which will be involving us in the next couple of years.

I think the first set of results were against weak non-conference teams, apart from one at #22 Oklahoma State, where we were humped for 20 pts. It's apparent that the teams in my conference are stronger than me, a couple not by much, but enpough to beat me. I'll aim for 5 wins in the conference again this season, which doesnt seem ambitious, but I have no reason to be.

The winner of the conference playoff gets an automatic invite to "March Madness" which is the overall playoff for the national championship.
I think.
If you were in a big conference you could get into MM without winning the conference playoff though.

Bad news... we have two Ineligible players because of academic failures, both Seniors, one a SF (I only have 2), the other a Point Forward where I have three others, so that's OK. Both our Centres are Freshmen and not particularly good ones either, so it'll be a season of struggle, I think.
I'm trying to go for three in each of the five positions in my squad, but I won't be able to do that until next year. In spite of this, I'm still trying to go for the best, interested players, If I can.
As we're in need of another Centre for next year, I managed to nab Randy Ramey, who is a little short at 6'9", but ranked 215th in his position, so I was pleased with that. If I'm honest, I was too slow last season with the recruitment drive, so I've given myself a decent amount of time to find the right personnel this time.

The TCB Insider (the media outlet for the game) has us ranked at 7/9 in our conference The team goals this year are not to finish last in the Conference and to reach 10 wins again. Hmmm... I hate challenges.

An example of how the in-game screen looks. I haven't been watching all the games, but you can if you wish and you can also make the tactical changes or leave them to the AssMan#1, which I am doing.

You've got to reckon that you're missing out on a couple of wins a year because you don't have the slightest idea what you're doing tictacally and let the ass man do it for you.
I've toyed with the idea of getting this (having played a bit of hoops when I was at school - being tall and lanky and all) so I will follow this and then decide that I can't be arsed after all.

This version is the '06 one that costs $15. The new one is $35, I think. The NBA version, IIRC is $40.
I need to do some homework so I can see what really is needed to be good in a position, attributes wise. I have a rough idea, but may need to research. In a couple of seasons (if I last that long) I'll be looking at tictacs. My weakest coach 's contract is up at the end of the season and he'll be getting replaced. I'm not sure what to look for with his replacement though. More braincells reqd.

I need to do some homework so I can see what really is needed to be good in a position, attributes wise. I have a rough idea, but may need to research. Position #1) Point Guard The point guard (lead guard) often acts like a football quarterback, calling plays and directing the offense. It's the point guard's job to bring the ball up the court and set up the plays. Therefore, this player is usually a team's best dribbler and passer. This position is very, very important to a team's success. Without a good point guard who plays mistake-free ball, very few teams will win a championship.
Position #2) Shooting Guard This guard has similar duties to the point guard but usually doesn't bring the ball up the court. Can also be called an "off" guard. Even though they don't set up the offense or handle the ball as much as the point guard, they can actually play both positions well. The big difference between the point guard and shooting guard is that the shooting guard is usually one of the team's best scorers. They're counted on to hit from the outside and usually take more shots than the point guard. A player that can combine the skills of both guard positions is the most dangerous.
Position #3) Small Forward Just because they're called "small" forwards doesn't necessarily mean they are actually physically small. They're known primarily for their scoring and ball handling abilities. This position is usually handled by the most talented player on the court.
Position #4) Power Forward Also can be called a "big" forward, these players are usually a bit bigger and stronger than other players and known for their size, defense and rebounding. Sometimes, power forwards like Karl Malone or Charles Barkley are also known for scoring a lot. Most, though, are best known for being their team's best rebounder or defender.
Position #5) Center This basketball position is very important to both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Centers are usually the tallest players on the court and are often the focal point of their team's offense. A center's duties are just as important on defense. They have to defend the opponent's center (who can also be a monster player) as well as block shots and rebound.
