I realise it's an almighty pre-plan, but then I am an almighty way away.
I am offering a hosting of a Clash of the Divots on my ickle island next Spring. In terms of ease of getting here, April is probably best as the ferries go from three a week to seven a week from the end of March.
So, what I do have is:
a) an expansive house, which included a basement with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sunroom and a big open hallway that would I think comfortably fit some pale-skinned divotry.
b) an abundance of fresh air, beaches, fishing potential, pub, café (inc. takeway fish & chips) and a burger van.
c) wine & whisky. I can also arrange, with a little bit of notice and at an extremely reasonable rate, some of the finest barrels of ale known to man. (The brother of one of my good friends on the island runs the Loch Fyne brewery- £65 for a 71 pint barrel).
d) A wife who is an excellent cook. :humb:
e) three kids who will probably at some point will want to show us their new dance routines. It is acceptable to employ the "smile & wave" tactic.
What I do not have:
a) a pizzeria.
b) a PC world
c) an easily accessible home
So I realise it is mammoth planning-ahead, but preparation is 9/10 of the law. Or something.
Anyone up for it?

Now that would be a mamoth plan elth. I have to say it's a tempting thought Pops, but I honestly don't think I would be able to make it. Most of my leave is already spoken for, yeah even in 2008. Can I leave the final decision for nearer the time?

I could be persuaded.....
It is a long way, away in both distance and time to kick off, agreed, but it'll be a larf. The other three were most certainly a larf and alcohol in its non-perfume form is always a bonus. It will be a logistical nightmare though, you understand that.
But I'm a preliminary "Yes" anyway.

It isn't that logistically bad if you have malice aforethought. For example, the Friday boat leaves at 6 am from Oban, but if you don't want the expense (c£20) of staying in Oban the night before, you can drive up through the night and kip on the boat (about 3 hrs). You can then have Fri, Sat, Sun and go back Monday boat- back to Oban by 3pm. Or leave on a Sunday, back to Oban 5pm. You wouldn't need to bring a car over, so the ferry ticket is about £20 and you won't need anything when here except maybe a wee bit beer money. So costwise, it isn't too bad. If you're loaded, you can fly to the neighbouring island from Glasgow and then nip over on the ferry. And like I said, the tender is out at the moment for the air service to us here, so that may be in operation too. Mind over matter, moo.

Oh, I wasn't thinking of me, Pops, I know I can do it, just the French contingent I'm concerned for.

I'd love to Pops. But it's a mammoth hike with a PC in tow. Logistical nightmare. Flying is a more serious option, I'd have to book a second seat for the PC and Monitor though

DC - I'm not sure if tee-total Midlanders are invited.......
In all seriousness, it depends on how the French couple would make it up to the Wilderness. it's a long way to drive in one go, it'll be an all day drive, I reckon. Stopping in Oban would be something I would do and for ~£20, that's a no-brainer. It means we could have a full day on the Friday hunting whales. Or drinking ale, whatever.

DC - we can just ask Boony to buy some laptops for us and claim we already paid him.

Get to.... Those are all nonsense, moo. I've only heard of two of them. No, as soon as I know who's coming, you leave it to me to sort a B & B. There is a woman who does the island B & B trade - she's the only woman in Oban who will get up at 5 am to give you a cooked breakfast before you get on the boat- just need to mention my name. She charges £18 B & B and her place is a 1.5 minute walk from the ferry. Don't you worry your pretty little head about accommodation in Oban.

Spookily enough, a couple days ago there were offers all over the place for cheap flights from Sevilla to Glasgow.
Can't seem to find many today.
Malaga-Glasgow is under €200 by easyjet or the other one, the one that's cheap and it's Scottish (if both concepts can apply to a plane).

This is the woman who babysat my 2 kids while the third was on her way into existence- she knows my family well. Her husband, who died last year, was an alcoholic. He had terrible circulation troubles and drove around on one of those Streethawk disabled motorscooters. A couple of years ago he had the lower part of one leg amputated and when Lexi saw him sitting outside the B & B one day she said "Bobby- why have you only got one shoe on?"
