I think I'd rather wait until they release the definitive version, like CM0102 was for the CM3 series. One with no gripes about training, tactics, transfers, scouting, player development, match engine, etc etc. You'll be waiting forever then. I severely doubt 09 is going to be definitive in any shape or form. Seems like SpInG are continuing their course of adding bells and whistles without addressing the underlying problems that have been there since the release of dot$. Aye, that's what I'm worried about...

Given that that's basically been my course of action at my work (when I'd actually had to do something) I can get on-board with the philosophy. It's not just something I want to pay them to do though.

Moo, you can usually just change a line of text in a cfg file in order to start up a program in a specific mode. No idea how or where for FM, but should be possible.

D Day is drawing nearer (pretty slowly admittedly) - looks like we'll be told at the end of next week/start of the week after. Rumour from people with union affiliations is that the people who have been around for a long time will be repositioned. With 8 years on the clock I suspect that I'll just miss out on that criteria. Which is a bit of a bummer.
On the plus side I checked my contract and discovered that they had to give me 4 months notice, rather than 3 - despite what the HR bird said. In fact if I'd worked 3 months more they'd have to give me 5 months notice.
Presuming they give us our notice on 17th November, that means they have to pay me until 17th March, and I won't have to work. Which is a bit of a bonus. Don't get any other sort of special pay-off though. That means Mrs Nark can go back to working 100% straight away leaving me to take care of the chiddies when they're not at nursery and we'll be able to save a bit of cash while we're both getting 100% pay. They also have to reimburse me for 13 days of holiday I was saving for Christmas, so that's basically 13 more days pay.

Every cloud, I suppose, Narkle...
I know you've just started looking, but what are the prospects for future employment looking like? Is it going to be difficult, or should you be able to get something, even if it's something that you're a bit over-qualified for?

It's going to be pretty difficult because a) I have difficulty communicating in Swedish on the phone meaning that I don't give the best of impressions b) I don't really know any proper programming languages that people are looking for (if I knew C# and had working experience of it I reckon I could get a job by Christmas) and c) I don't have the sort of technical knowledge that you can impress people with (unless they're looking for someone who's good at FOF) and having spent the last 5 or so years dossing around haven't really given me the most professional mindset or any huge insights into my own nichéd area.
There's no chance of getting retrained by the state (Tory government have slashed funds for that). To be honest, being the pessimistic bostord that I am, I think the chances of getting a job are pretty slim until the economy picks up.

If I were in that situation, Narkle, I'd probably spend the next four months learning something like C# - a couple of books or online tutorials should be enough to give you a good start, and if you can put that on your CV along with your years of technical experience, it might give you a better chance. Programming languages are really quite easy to pick up if you have the basic understanding of how to programme, which I assume you do.

I don't think my current computer woould cope under the strain to be honest. And I seriously don't think coming along and saying that "OK I've basically been "programming" (if you can call it that) in a poxy CRM-based language, but I've been studying C# (or .NET) at home" is going to cut it on the job market. I've never really be trained to do proper programming either, despite having been to month's worth of government-funded C and C++ programming courses. (in the dim and distant past).
My parentals have offered to fund me doing some sort of distance course - I just get the feeling that it would be pouring the money down the dunny. Not something I'm keen on doing. The other option is to do Microsoft Dynamics courses as I reckon lots of companies are going to be moving to that for the CRMs over here. I ought to be able to snag some sort of consultant job if I can train myself up in that.

You'd be surprised as to what sort of job offers you get with the experience you have, Narkle. It's worth a couple of phone calls to the agencies anyway, just to ask if that sort of home learning while waiting to be booted is worth putting on a CV. I would say it's worth at least getting it into the hobbies section. It shows you're not bone idle.
Bone idle at home, anyway.
Much call for contracting in your line of programming? It might be worth looking at that for a short term fix. Money in the pocket and all that. It also shows that you're willing to graft rather than sit on your arse and play FOF all day, which whilst appealing, doesn't pay for the electricity.

" I've been studying C# (or .NET) at home" So don't tell them that. Get a book on .NET, go through the whole thing at home and then just put ".NET" on your resume. The whole dodgy resumé and interview thing is like dating a chick who's out of your league. You just embellish and exaggerate until they say yes and then by the time they figure out it's all a lie, you're already fucking them. I also give relationship advice, if anyone's interested.

It's absolutely how. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) . My resumé says "PHP" and "MySQL" on it - now Goalllineblitz is probably built with PHP and SQL and there's no way I could build something of that complexity, but if you want to give me money, why would I tell you that? Besides, only desperate companies want you to be 100% ready on day 1. To return to the dating analogy, intelligent companies, like intelligent women, will say yes to you for what they can turn you into, not who you are. If you can convince a company that you have the basics and are a self-starter (that might be the hard part) who'll continue to train themselves out of the office, then you can sell anything as a "skill."

Unfortunately I have the double whammy of not being able to do anything and not being able to bullshit that I can do something.
My day today has been a bit of rollercoaster ride I must say. I've now found out that the fact that I took paternity leave this year will effect what I get in unemployment benefit. Which will be just grand I must say.

Apparently, it's looking very good. However...
Things they kept quiet. #1 in an occasional series.... Context sensitive adverts on the pitch-side hoardings. Adds to the effect I suppose, but they get the context for these hoardings using your IP address and therefore your location on tinternet, which is transferred to a 3rd party online advert site. I forget the name of it.
Sneaky, clever, and possibly scary.

Plus you have limited compulsory online activations, the CD keys don't work properly - they've actually had to create an online tool for people to put their CD keys into the it "guesses" what the correct CD key is! And it doesn't work properly for some people anyway - and, of course, the match engine is broken and so in true SpInG style there's a mega day 1 patch to make it work at all.
It's another SpInG piece of dog shit.

I really not that interested this time round. Usually I'm actually interested to see what is happening with it. This time, not an ounce. It's probably healthier this way.
