I'll have to ask my Dad who the first band was he saw. Probably someone like Gravy Train (the Lancashire lot, not the other pretenders since then, with Norm Barratt).

That's not the finished list, clearly, as there are several ringers in there, now removed. Poison..

Happy Hour by the House Martins is on the list twice, when clearly it should be on the list none times.
And Biffy Clyro - Who's Got a Match? Did it wash up on the island?
And I'm getting grief here that you picked the Frank Sinatra version of Mack the Knife.

Christ that's horrible. I'm also now stuck singing 1990, Year of the Guru!. I love songs from that era that put the year in the lyrics, as it's the only way I can place them. I'd spent a lot of my youth not liking music at all - my mother taught Latin American and Ballroom dancing so was always playing that guff and then in my first venture out into the musical world of Top of the Pops on my own I saw Johnny Rotton screaming into a microphone. Out of tune. Then when I was trying to get with chicks, the sort of music I had to listen to was Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and Nick fucking Kershaw. Then I was on an Outward Bounds course, rock climing in the middle of sodding nowhere aged 17ish and on the last night we had a "disco" and someone put on a tape which had The Jack that House Built by Jack and Chill and Beat Dis by Bomb the Bass and I was done - I'd finally found something I could listen to. I then spent about ten years listening to a mix of repetitive nonsense with no lyrics, or poppy stuff aimed to appeal to dancey types and still get into the charts - Baby D, anyone? I was absolutely caned for almost an entire decade, with shoulder length hair and a pork pie hat mugging to the likes of Elevations - Move Your Body ( side to, side to. si-si-side to) - at the start I was working at the Post Office and would get in from The Grid nightclub in the Elbow at about 2, then get up at 4 to go to work, which was fun. Luckily I had some quality vitamins to get me through. I remember the music that got me into the scene and I remember the music that was playing as I left, but most of the stuff inbetween is gone. I could probably hock it out under hypnosis though because it's definitely still in there - all it takes is the first few bars of a "choon!" to come on and I get goosebumps and flashbacks. Anthem by N JOI is especially bad for this and every time the break drops on Insomnia I get about five different memories, depending on which version it is. I can only listen to most of the stuff post-ironically now, or if I put myself in a nostalgic mood first.

What no Beatles or Rolling Stones? Bowie's Rebel Rebel would be a belter. I guess your not a fan of Suzie Quatro either.
Gah, number 100 should be taken out the back and buried, and then replaced with the original. There's nothing like MJ to get the crowd moving.

Quite a polarising exercise, eh? For the record, the Housemartins is now once, Mack the Knife is now Bobby Darin's and Biffy Clyro is one of the kids' favourites. Second sweep will be tonight.

I will be perusing all suggestions, by the way, when I have a minute. i was out last night and then came home and watched Slumdog Millionaire. It was alright, actually- very easy on the eye and entertaining.

Love Abba, put more in. And there's some tracks in there that baffled me as to why they're deemed party tracks and "dancing till you die" but, meh, whatever. I'm very pleased Bust A Move is in there. You been watching My Name Is Earl recently? KUTGW, Pops! :thumb:

Don't like Motown, don't like TAFKATAFKAPCKAP, don't like the Beatles - get to a doctor, you appear to be missing the Perfect Pop gene. Either Help!, Twist And Shout or Day Tripper is what you're after, by the by. Also: terrifyingly, Sonic and I are of a mind. On the Smooth Criminal debate at least. Also also: excellent call on the Shat version of Common People. Also also also: I really hope the Unnamed Bee Gees song is Stayin' Alive, otherwise your ears might need to be revoked. Also also also also: Poison . 2 Unlimited .

I really need to put in some heavy disclaimers, I see. The girls asked for the Turtles (cf Spiderpig) and Bust A Move (cf See Spot Run). Smooth Criminal will be the MJ version- it's in there for the title at the moment, not the track as I am still "obtaining" the MJ version. I don't don't like the Beatles and tap my foot encouragingly whenever they are on, but I just don't actively put them on by choice. Twist and Shout is an excellent call, btw, and I am a big fan of Hard Day's Night. My Perfect Pop gene is mutated, I am the first to admit it. My idea of the perfect pop tune is "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World. The Shat owns Common People now, no arguments. Yes, it is Stayin' Alive and since that list, I have toyed with the inclusion of "Dancing, yeh" or whatever it's called. I could fill the damn thing with Abba, especially as my kids are watching Mamma Mia daily at the moment. It's like being 7 again. :pops: 2 Unlimited is a "Young" thing. Me and my two brothers used to do the dance while inebriated and I was looking for some halcyon recall. Poison. I was on a 500 mile jungle roadtrip last year in Guyana with a couple of guys who were in a death metal band. They had their ultimate playlist for the trip and when Poison came on, suddenly the thousands of miles and culture clashes were gone as we all sang along, much to the amusement of my female colleague in the truck, who decided it was a "boy thing". It was never intended to be in the Dance section- I've been playing that list in the house to check it's viability and some ringers have crept in...

My Perfect Pop gene is mutated, I am the first to admit it. My idea of the perfect pop tune is "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World. That's on Rock Band 2, and it's a) surprisingly good fun and b) a surprisingly good song. I do feel slightly dirty for liking it, mind. Now steady, we've all had a bit to drink, let's not start saying things we don't mean. It does put an enormous smile on my face, though. Joe Jackson's cockernee accent FTW! Magic. "Like a knife that cuts you the wound he-als... But the scar... That scar remaiiiiiiiiiiiins!"Flesh And Blood is one of the albums of my adolescence. If loving insanely pompous poodle-permed glam-metal is wrong, I don't want to be right.
