Ok, so in just under a fortnight, I will be 40.
And my big SW party hoves into view.
I am putting together a big set of dancing cds and I need some suggestions.
I'm talking the old favourites, cheese, tat and ear-worms included. I have quite a few (90) tracks in the mix already, but I want to try and make it the definitive "nobody leaves the dancefloor until they die" set of tunes.
Fire away.

Tenpole Tudor - Swords of a Thousand Men Mel and Kim - Respectable Duran Duran - Reflex
Are we talking this sort of cheesy tat? If so, I'm sure I can dig around in my (fading) memory banks for stuff.

Boo - that's hardly "nobody leaves the dancefloor until they die", IMO. Good song that it is.
S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin'. Adam and the Ants - Stand And Deliver Madness - Baggy Trousers

Martha And The Vandellas - Nowhere To Run You might be tempted to include Dancing In The Streets instead. Resist this temptation. It's a superb track but a) marginally inferior to the magnificent Nowhere To Run and b) will bring back uncomfortable memories of David Bowie dancing in a big coat and standing uncomfortably close to Mick Jagger. (I have just discovered that I am no longer King Of The Internet at Nowhere To Run. This shall be rectified at the first opportunity).

Boo - that's hardly "nobody leaves the dancefloor until they die", IMO. Good song that it is. It is in my circles, fella. This, and Prodigy's No Good Stop The Dance, and RATM's Killing In The Name.

You did say cheese tat and earworms included.
It seems you have an inherant dislike of motown. I will desist from suggesting anything vauguely motownish in future then.

It is in my circles, fella. This, and Prodigy's No Good Stop The Dance, and RATM's Killing In The Name. Was that the Fatboy Slim remix of No Good ( Start The Dance)? Seriously, whist Stone Roses, Prodigy and in your circles (because I can't stand RATM) are going to be dancefloor fillers, as Pops has said it's his 40th and he wants cheese and tat, I don't think these are suitable. You have to look at the audience. Hence my suggestion of: Deee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart (even though Pops won't like it, I reckon). Seriously, Pops, if it's 80s cheesey tat you want, you won't go far wrong with the Grange Hill CD which you can view on Amazon et al.

Pulp - Disco 2000 (Common People is just as dancable, but surprisingly long. If you're looking to thin the herd of the sick or infirm go that route)
The B52's - Roam (Love Shack's massively overplayed - besides, it's illegal to play it earlier than May)
Pump It Up - Elvis Costello (obv)
The Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, Currently Known As Prince - It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night (party-starter per excellence. Goes on for about a week and a half, mind)
Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer (so terrible it's actually a little bit awesome)
Sisters of Mercy - Floorshow (that one might just be me, though)

Nah mate, the version off Jilted Generation. And, yeah, I forgot the name... He also said "old favourites"... You can't just have cheese and tat, else the party would suck outrageous balls. Aye, great choice. Oasis - Live Forever; Primal Scream - Loaded; The Cure - Friday I'm In Love; Pixies - Debaser. Disco 2000 is a cracking choice as well.

What would possess anyone to listen to the Tracey Ullman version of They Don't Know in a world where the original still exists? Gah!
Also: Dexy's Midnight Runners can fuck off.

Horn - I have exalted thee for your view of Dexy's. As an aside, I said to the DJ at my weeding that if he played said band at any time of the evening that I would kill him.
Pops - In a similar vein to the above Grange Hill, if you go to play.com or amazon, and look for the School Disco CDs, you'll get more tat like the above. IIRC, there's three School Disco compilations.

XTC. :humb: Forget Dr & The Medics - Spirit In The Sky; go straight for the original by Norman Greenbaum. They've both got their own merits. The original's surprisingly good fun on Rock Band, though.
