So because preseason started yesterday, it's probably a good time to crack on with chatting bollocks about the NFL. THat'll be easier for some of us, I'm sure.
Atlanta fans, for instance.
Anyhoo, because New England beat the reigning "world" champions 27-24 in the first pre-season game last night, I predict that the Patriots will go to the Superbowl without conceding a passing TD, where they'll be beaten 3-0 by a resolute Minnesota team.
What?

I say 4-0, with Adrian Peterson sent off for handball.

I predict that no QB's will be hit by season threatening injuries this year, mainly because I won't have the chance to draft any.
But if any do get battered beyond belief and have to sit the season out, then that's who I would have drafted.

Atlanta fans, for instance. Best team in the NFC South if you take away the Saints. See you in Dallas next February

All the 'merican's I deal with in my job are Atlanta fans, which isn't surprising as my company HQ is in Atlanta.

Bairn - the only way you'll get me in Dallas is if you could guarantee three free punches to Troy Aikman's face. And some steel gloves.

And right on track with the "We'll win everything!!1!" thoughts, the Patriots beat the "best team in the NFC South if you ignore the Saints" in a pre-season game. The highlight was probably Wes Welker getting some time on the field and not getting injured. Always nice to see arguably your best player back from injury.

If anyone would like to comment on my TTH fantasy team, I'd be interested in their thoughts. 13 teams, so it's a little stretched toward the bench...
QB: Carson Palmer, Matt Hasselbeck (David Garrard, Matt Leinart still on the wire) RB: Jonathan Stewart, Arian Foster, Clinton Portis, Leon Washington (waiver claim placed for Darren McFadden) WR: Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, DeSean Jackson (admit it, you were wondering where all my good players were), Lee Evans, Jacoby Jones (fuck all on the wire) TE: Antonio Gates, Dustin Keller (dropping for McFadden) DEF: Baltimore K: Ryan Longwell
Any suggestions for improvements?

Trade away Wayne and pick up Pierre Garcon.

I might be playing with TTHers, but alas they're not such total idiots that Garcon went undrafted.

Gronkowski (NE) will be getting a lot of love from Brady through the season, so keep an eye on him, Elth. He's a WR in a TE body, I've read.
It seems to be a very decent draft though, Elth, and I'm sure that you'll be able to spot the FAs worth picking up quicker than most over there.

My one genuine worry is Palmer - he seems to have plateaued a little and his out of division games this year are the AFC East, NFC South, Indianapolis and San Diego.
The Jets, Dolphins, Pats, Chargers and Colts, (early in the season when they haven't replaced Peyton Manning with Justin Beiber), isn't the best schedule for a stats boost. And Hasslebeck gets injured getting out of bed in the morning.

He got drafted too stu - I'm not sold on my QBs either, but there's really not a lot else out there. Leinart looks to be completely lost in pre-season, David Garrard's David Garrard and the other guys available are chumps like Jason Campbell, Matt Moore and Sam Bradford. Palmer was about the only guy left with any upside at all when I got to take a QB. I could try trading him, but I suspect I'll not have many takers...

Tom Brady got a bit of a deal on his new contract, with $18M average per year, it makes it the biggest deal in the NFL apparently. Although it's expected that Pointing will get a better deal, as he's up for renewal too.

The Colts and Manning were just waiting for Brady's deal to be done so they can one up it.
$20m a year average, I'd expect.

Just saw the highlights of the Dolphins game - clearly a lot of focus on Brandon Marshall, who mostly caught the ball underneath and missed one long gain because Henne underestimated his speed, but my favourite moment wasn't about a catch. Early on Marshall catches a ball underneath, gets tackled, falls down and then a couple of seconds later Donte Whitner shows up and lands a hit on the grounded Marshall. Not a hard one, but still. Later on Marshall is wide to the left, the ball goes to Ronnie Brown who's running left. Marshall locks up with his corner to block and then releases as Donte Whitner sprints up and absolutely fucking drills Whitner into the turf. It's at about 1:45 into this one : www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81a76c2b/WK-1-Brandon-Marshall-highlights

It's a nice little block, Stu. To be fair, when he was getting a bit of a roughing up (is there previous with those two? It looked like it...) Marshall made no hint of a complaint. Fair play to him. Would you consider him an upgrade compared to Ted Ginn Jr?

Just a little bit.
There's previous with Florence, as he used to be a Charger, but not with Whitner as far as I know. If you watch the whole video you can see Whitner keeps showing up and jawing at Marshall after he makes a catch, which strikes me as a bit dumb. Instead of talking why don't you try, I don't know, covering him?

Yeah I thought it strange. Fair play to Marshall though, I'll repeat.
Oh and nice to see Houston having a winning start to their campaign. Can't recall who they botted though.
