I think they projected Huff there and then when he went to the Raiders, they kind of got caught short and picked the closest player they could find [/groundless speculation] I don't see that at all. I really don't. If they wanted a safety then Jason Allen I would have taken. If they wanted a corner it's Jo Joseph. Whitner is a bizarre choice all the way down the line.

Leinart for the Cards. Another QB to get stuffed into the ground...
I don't think St.Louis go for the QB. I think they have a chance here to get one of the two sold Defensive Tackles. Bunkley methinks surely.
And I find it funny the Sirius lot are going on about 9 teams being sorry about passing on Leinart, why should they? They have starting QB's already who have comparable highschool and college career stats?
How can they tell Vernon Davies in one moment that Alex Smith is the dogs danglies - then suggest Leinart in the next moment is the greatest thing since sliced bread? Silly.

And Leinart decides to find out, in person, just how bad the Cardinals pass protection is.

And Leinart decides to find out, in person, just how bad the Cardinals pass protection is. Was good enough for them to have two 1000yard receivers - but only because they couldn't run the ball or retain possession. Kurt Warner is still a much better QB despite his age, or past injuries or perceived 'loss' of skills. I don't see what Leinart will do any different, or better except maybe stand up to the abuse a little longer.

He'll learn for a year, is what he'll do.
Broncos trade up to take Cutler.

Hmm. What have St.Louis got in return? Did they take Denvers old slot?
3rd rounder from San Fran and 1st rounder from Atlanta. Ianteresting. And I'm off for tea. No doubt by the time I return the Colts will have selected a Wide Receiver.

Never mind, you got there.
I'm about to go to bed, I can't wait 5 hours for the Colts pick.

Ah well Santonio Holmes didn't reach to the Colts, so they went with a running back - which is fine. Joseph Addai I didn't personally think was worth a first round draft pick by any measure - makes up for lack of running prowess by being a good student supposedly. Oh well. Providing he works on Play-Action with Manning he shouldn't have any problems moving the ball in the Colts scheme.

He's decent in the passing game, a good pass blocker, he runs "up down" (I have no idea what that means ) and he's had knee problems in college. Hmmm. A reach if you ask me but he wouldn't have been on the board by the time 62 rolled around. No help for our LB corps yet though, instead we pick an undersized corner with character issues in the second round :moop:

The Jets bought themselves a new offensive line in the first round, which is astonishingly sensible of them. I think they've been taken over by imposters. Possibly from space.

No help for our LB corps yet though, instead we pick an undersized corner with character issues in the second round I think "Up and Down" means he goes straight forward, no cutting, through the line. Which is fine, most of the Colts running is done that way anyway. I still think Rhodes gets the starting nod regardless. They're a similar height and build. He was (according to Mayock's ranking) the best RB left on the board apart from Lendale White (who has questionable fitness - and ended up at Tennessee as a possible 'steal') but I still would have gone with Brian Calhoun (who looks more of a Warrick Dunn type of player to me) or even the handy looking Maurice Drew (as a switch back/punt/kick returner etc) ahead of him. I'm amazed Gerald Riggs jr is still available by the way because he'd have been my left-field pick of the day - just because his Dad was phenom.

All the media are still amazed at how 3 teams with a "desperate need of a signal caller" 'skipped' on Leinart. Those 3 teams:
The Titans (who still have McNair, even if he's "aggrieved" the Titans banned him from the training field. Oh, have Volek too. And took Young as a better fit). The Jets (who still have the 'young' Pennington - plus more pressing concerns on OL in order to prevent them needing to keep draft QB's). The Packers (who have the little known QB Favre still on the books, plus last seasons first rounder Aaron Rodgers).
Stupid pundits.

I think the Jets picked well. Peyton Manning would look shit if he spent more time chewing mud than throwing the ball.
Not that I think Pennington is a long term solution for them, I think he's pretty mediocre but I'd rather have a mediocre QB behind a good O-line than a top QB getting hit on every second play.

A Kicker in the 4th round? Two TEs? And then we wait until the vack end of the draft to get anyone for the defense? Billy is still mad, I see. Good-oh.
Maroney is being seen as a good pick by some of the pundits which is nice.

Chad Jackson is a good pick too. Though where he'll fit in Billy's new five-Tight End set is anyone's guess.

www.nfl.com/draft/story/9428093Looking down the list. How does Harrington get a 'D' grade for being a backup after 4 reasonably successful years (but much maligned) yet Pat Ramsey get a 'C-' for being stuffed senseless and never completing a full year? Other parts are baffling too. AMATEURS!

I should have done the 2+2 for the Williams pick when Casserly said, the wednesday before the draft, "If we pick Williams, boo me, not him", but when he went for Williams the booing from the top in Houston, which had started at the turn of the year was bound to turn into the thumbs down, it was just a matter of when. So, Mario, you're picked in front of the consensus number one on the flimsiest of reasons, the whole of the league are waiting to find out if you're the next Sam Bowie and now the personnel manager who invited you to dinner isn't there any more. No pressure, Mario.

Looks like Ashley Lelie is on his way out of Denver in one of those bizarre menage a trois, which are all the rage for the Broncos.
Lelie goes to team A, team A send something or other to team B and team B send a Tight End to Denver is the rumour.
Ian-terestingly, divisional rivals Kansas are rumoured to be Team A, searching for a deep threat to play alongside Gonzalez and Eddie Kennison, although the Niners also need a wide receiver, so that they can avoid starting the season with Arnaz Battle and Antonio Bryant at one and two.
