I've already met creeper, he only seems to deal in potions and magic scrolls but he is useful as he buys and and sells at full value for all goods. The biggest problem I have is the loaded Grand Soul Gem that I stole taht is worth 60,000 GP. I don't think there is anyone about yet who I could offload it too and it will be a long time before I can afford to pay to use it to enchant a weapon. It will have to be put away in my stash somewhere for now. The worst of it is teh person I stole it from is an enchanter and I can't use her to enchant things anymore as I stole every type of gem from her and she will recognise any gem I use as hers from now on. Just a minor problem as I'll have found anotehr enchanter by the time I have enough GP to pay for an enchantment.

Out of interest: when you use a Soulgem to enchant an object do you get an empty soulgem back or is it lost forever?

It's lost for ever.
There's a talking mudcrab on one of the far northern islands that will trade up to 10,000 gold but he's the richest merchant in the game, and a pain in the arse to find. The only way to trade really expensive things is barter + gold - give Creeper something worth 10k, take back something worth 5k and 5k gold. To be honest, by the time you get later in the game gold isn't an issue unless you've been spunking tens of thousands on trainers, so most people end up just filling up a house with random shiny objects. Plus you tend to be powerful enough without fancy enchantments.
Alternatively, you can do your enchanting yourself if you want to put the effort into training up the skill.

That's pretty much what I thought the answer would be. So I'll stash the stuff with excessive value until I can use it.

Not a lot got done at the wekend, but I did enter the tomb and killed a ghost some skeletons and a Lesser Bonewalker. The skull was retrieved and I found a book too. I had to leave a lot of loot behind as I was over encumbered, so I headed back to Balmora. I also completed the go-between quest and got some instructions to meet up with some bird in another town I had yet to visit. The skull returned I got the info to pass on to Caius, which I did immediately and was promoted to the rank of Blades Apprentice. he threw in a few free scrolls when I asked what the rank entailed. He also gave me more instruction, this time to seek out and speak to 3 informants in Vivec. WHich will be put on hold for a little while. There was lots more buying and selling and training for a while, tehn I returned to the tomeb to recover more loot and clear out the section I hadn't yet investigated. That was a nice little earner in the long run. I also finished a quest given to me by the thieves guild, to steal a key to Nerano Manor, unfortunately the owner of teh manor caught me out trying to pickpocket it and I had to kill him, Sugar-Lips Habasi my mentor was not impressed, he took the key but indicated that because of the death it would eb a long time before there was any worthwhile loot in the manor. :moop: What he didn't know was that I'd cleaned out the manor before I left anyway. Dispite his unhappiness about my methods he gave me another quest anyway, to recover some stolen items from some scumbag in a small fishing village to the west. That will probably be my next destination, as I'd been there before and there was nothing too hairy to deal with in that village.

So what we can gather from Coffers playing Morrowind is that he is really a bloody thirsty theif who runs errands for people.

The Nerano Manor's a pretty good spot to steal as your base house, by the way. Nobody ever comes to take it over once the owner's dead, which he ends up regardless of whether you kill him in that quest.

Well I went to the fishing village and found teh scumbag, however he would not admit to anything which presents me with a problem; I can't just murder and search him in full view of everyone and my pickpocketing skills always get me in bother so I decided to leave him for now and find something else to do. That something else found me in the cellers below the building my original target was in, I came across some dodgy looking characters and one asked me to deliver a slave to some guy in Balmora who would reward me handsomely. I agreed and found myself with a slave in tow for my trek back to what was rapidly becoming a base of operations.
The journey was interupted by random killings of beasts that got in the way, namely rats and cliff racers, however the interesting part was trying to offload my package to the target recipient. Once i found the building I found it was locked with a level higher than I could pick I had teh option of using magic, but my actions were in full view of the everyday busy bodies who would report my illegal acts to the guards. I noticed that the house was built into a hill so wandered around teh back of teh house and sure enough climbing onto the roof there was a set of easily accessible stairs going down to a door on the 2nd level. This door was locked but hidden from street view so a qick opening spell was fired off and I was in. Heading downstairs the slave didn't follow me, I was quickly challenged by the occupant but when I explained my mission he gave me 400 gp and seemed might interested in getting his hands on the merchandise, something clicked, the quest giver had mentioned that what was inside was of more interest than the slave. I had a bad feeling about what would happen to her ince I left and I don't like slavery very much either. So I provoked a fight with the purchaser and sent him to meet his maker. The slave who wouldn't talk to me up to that point suddenly thawed out and asked me to take her to the Argonian mission in Ebonheart where there was an organisation that would keep her safe from her former captors and repatriate her with her kind. I agreed and felt good about a mission fro once, I also had another house to stash loot in which can't be bad. I did take a rest before we set out though.
I took a quick method of transport, ie the Silt Strider to Seyda Neen and then took teh scenic route from there. The walk was uneventful even though it was in the dead of night and I noticed we passed very close to the Western outskirts of Vivec where I had at least three quests to complete. Robina my slave girl was eventually delivered to her would be benefactors and I received another 400 gp for my troubles and the undying thanks of some anti slaving organisation called the Twin Lamps. Before returning to my next objectives I decided to do a little exploring in Ebonheart to see what was afoot. There were a lot of guards about and I was being extra careful but haven't found much of use yet.
I will next consider interviewing some informants and borrowing some books and recipe formulas from various Vivic inhabitants.

Ebonheart's an Imperial fortress, isn't it? Explains the proliferation of guards.
Balmora's probably the best place to set up base, near enough to Vivec and good transport links via silt strider.
Reading this is really reminding me why I love this game and why I need to get home and play it a lot.

It is very castle like so I guess Imperial Fortress is probably the right description. It has a statue of a dragon in the middle of the main square. I love the way you set out to do a quest and then get distracted by other intervening or seemingly more interesting quests along the way. PS. I've somehow got a 5gp bunty on my head again, so I need to avoid interest from guards until I can pay my fine.

I also think I need to start selling off some of my loaded soul gems to creeper if he'll buy them I have a fair few that are valued over 400GP a couple are valued in 4 figures, that should buy a lot of training and potions, I've been busily using up my alchemy ingredients too and could do with selling a lot if the less useful ones off for profit.

Onwards to Vivec then, as I left Ebonheart I took time out to look at the road ahead and the clear night sky, it seemed a rare thing in these islands, it's normally foggy or raining, I felt invigorated: This is freedom, though the noises of the night were at times disturbing I arrived at Vivec without mishap. Now looking at Vivec it was a brooding sight in the dead of night, this is the bridge to teh Hlaalu Canton on the far west side of Vivec: A strange sight to someone used to the inside of a prison cell and more recently the wild open spaces and small villages and towns. I crossed the bridge with trepidation and soon noticed that this city was huge and built on floating islands each island was described as a Canton and I entered via the Hlaalu Canton. It was quite difficult to find entrances to the huge structures and they were built on multiple levels with most of the residences and traders accessed from the inside. Each Canton had a Canalworks level which as the name suggests sat at the level on th canals between each canton, Gondola style transport was available between cantons, or you could just walk between them using the bridges, this was a bit more difficult than it sounded as bridges were at differing levels. Above the Canalworks levels were the Waist Work Levels Upper Lower and just the Waistworks, these seemed to be the living quarters and trading levels, though I haven't been up to the upper levels yet. Below the Canalworks levels are the Underworks, or the canton's sewer, these are only accessible via trapdoors or drainage ditches, this seems to be where they undesirables hang out as there are no guards found in these areas. There are nine cantons and each canton seems to be a city in it's own right. I felt claustrophobic, and hemmed in there were guards called ordinators everywhere. They seemed to work for the temple and were particularly vigilant and to some extent aggressive. I needed to watch my step. Thank goodness that there was an ingame map as finding my way to the desired cantons was difficult enough with that let alone without any clue as to where I was going. I had 3 quests to complete here and I needed to make a start. The Foreign Quarter Canton was involved in two of the quests so I headed there to make a start. I accidentally stumbled on the shop of the one of the targets in the Lower Waistworks of the Foreign Quarter, I had to steal a formula frrom the owner for the House of Hlaalu, as I entered the task looked as if it would be easier said than done. The recipe was in full view on a table, unfortunately there was nowhere I could hide from view to make a stab at stealing it. Talking to the shopowner got me nowhere. So being a clumsy hot headed fighter I just grabbed it and ran out of the door to the shouts of 'Stop Thief I'll report this' and a hit with some sort of magic spell taht did a little dame to me, but not a lot. It seems my bounty has gone up from 5GP to 105GP and Everyone I spoke to was wary of me, telling me everyone knew I had a price on my head. Every gaurd told me I was scum and that they were watching me. Oh well as long as they didn't arrest me I'd live with it for now, I didn't have the money to pay a fine anyway. That was one quest down apart from reporting back that is. I next had to find Huleeya, an Argonian in the Foreign Quarter, at the Black Shalk Cornerclub, who would be teh first of 3 infomants. A bit of poking around teh Foreign Quarter and I stumbled across the target, he was hard to spot as he was the only Argonian in the place. He seemed agitated as when I spoke to he he indicated that 3 Dunmer were taunting him and refusing to let him leave, if I would talk to them and then escort him to a bookshop he'd give me the info I wanted. I took it on myself to deal with the situation after I'd taken a look around. Unfortunately as I passed the door I entered by the 3 Dunmer started attacking the Argonian. Oh boy time to step in and keep the peace. Two of teh assailents were dealt with very quickly and the third wasn't far behind, taking only a short time to loot the bodies, we were quickly on the way to the bookshop in question. Where I was given the info I wanted and improved my skills by reading some special books in the place. The looting of the bodies was very profitable as I gained a fair few magic items too. On to the next target, who was Addhiranirr in the St. Olms Canton, south-east of the Foreign Quarter, this proved to be a litte further than expected but I found it in the end, finding Addhiranirr was a different matter no one had admitted to knowing him or where he was. Thankfully my bounty hadn't increased as a result of killing the 3 racist Dunmer, so though still under scrutiny I wasn't outwardly attracting too much undue attention. I eventually stumbled into teh Canalworks area of the cantonm and was told there that Addhiranirr was hiding from a Customs & Excise officer in the Underworks. Taking time only to loot a storage room nearby I entered a trapdoor and the first person I found was my target. He told me that the information I was seeking would be mine if I could get the Customs officer off his back. That proved to be not too hard as he was the first person I found on my return to the Waistworks, He asked me if I knew where Addhiranirr was so I said I'd heard he'd took a ship to the mainland, the agent thanked me and said that was fine as that was where he was heading. Returning to Addhiranirr I got his undying thanks and the notes I required. 2 targets down and one to go. My next target was Mehra Milo, a Temple priestess at the Hall of Wisdom in the Temple Compound, that was in the far south of Vivec and took a little bit of finding. Finding Mehra wa sthat bit harder too, but I eventually found her in the Temple Library, she directed me to follwo her to the back of the room where we wouldn't be overheard, where she gave me teh information I needed. She also told me to obtain a copy of a banned book called'Progress of Truth', the library had copies but they were well guarded, she told me that it was best to ask in booksellers. Guess what, The bookseller I had recently visited turned out to have a copy so I shelled out from my meagre GP resources for a copy. I had one quest left but I was getting a little tired of searching these cantons and the target was ina Mage's Guild, so I resolved to head back to Balmora and complete the 2 I had started and to also stock up with money to return to Vivec via teh MAge's Guild Guild transport system. That should get me straight into the target building. .

I decided to walk to Sedya Neen and rest in my shack not too much happened on the way and I rested all through the day, leveling up in the progress to level 5. Things are looking up. I arrived at the Sedya Need silt strider around midnight and headed to Balmora, stopping off at my pawnbroker shop I made a lot of attempts to create potions a fair number were successful. I also visited the thieves guild to sell some loot to be used to clear my name with the authorities. Visiting Caius resulted in a 200gp reward and a promotion in the Blades to teh rank of Journeyman. Caius indicated I should continue training and and guild work while he thought about the document I had given him, he would have more tasks for me later when I had improved my skills. Taking my leave I went to the house I had delivered teh salve girl to and offload some of my baggage and stolen items, which allowed me to pay off a guard without loss of said loot. It was now time to discharge the House Of Hlaalu quest, my mentor was happy with the formula and gave me a quest to collect some unpaid taxes in the fishing village to the west. One for later I think.
For now I was heading to Caldera to make some real money, I used the mage Guild Guide again and went quickly to meet Sneeker and sold him loaded soul gems, netting over 4000GP in the process. Sneeker always pays the full value of the goods and sells back at the full value, therefore neither side is robbed. Half of teh money was used on new spells nd training in various mage skills at the local Mage's Guild House.
I then used teh Guild Guide to get a quick teleport to the Mage's Guild in Vivec to discharge the 3rd quest that had been on my list, the task turned oiut to be simple to borrow a book from a Mage in Vivec, the mage's room was the first visited and the book was in a storage cupboard where I could close teh door and lift the book without been seen. I quickly returned to teh Ald'Rhun via teh guild guide and discharged the 3rd quest. My nbext quest was to investigate a disturbance at a fellow Mage's hut.
It was time to reflect on what tasks I had left so I decided to sleep on it but was again disturbed by an assassin who was quickly dispatched, teh effort required another rest and I nooticed I was diseased, so a cure disease potion took care of that problem, and now I needed to reflect on what to do next.

I sort of did but I was losing interest well before I closed the guild. I've still got the account though and look in from time to time. But the new crew expected too much from me I think and from what was supposed to be an informal thing.

What I did next was travel by foot to Hla Oad where two quests awaited me, one was to recover some taxes from a guy who was refusing to pay up. He wouldn't pay me so as he was alone in his shack he got pasted to the walls, note to myself, this is now a base in Hla Oad and the walls need redecorating. The bugger had nowt on him but did have a key, however there was nothing in the room to unlock. Enquiries in the village indicated that the tax dodger did a lot of swimming around teh shack next door. Hmmm that is usually a hint to follow up the clue so I did. I found nothing in the dark, but when daylight broke I spotted a half submerged chest under his neighbours shack. Interestingly enough the key unlocked it and I now had 954 GP in my possession, he owed 800GP and my commission was to be 400GP so I got a little more out of teh deal than I bargained for, plus there is loot in the shack to plunder. Next back to the Kitty Kat guy who borrowed some items from the Thieves guild and won't give them back. I'd tried this once before and got nowhere, so back to trying again. I got nowhere again so tried to pick the Kat's pocket. I failed and got a small bounty on my head the kat tried to attack me with it's claws, I waited until I thought it had hit me, hoping to avoid further bounty. Once i started attacking the kat was dead with two strikes oof my axe that delivers a poisonous blow. The barman shouted you have been reported to teh guards for that atatck. :moop: I now have a bounty of 1040Gp on my head, which doesn't sound good. I looted the body and there was a key on it. So positioning myself so I couldn't be seen I tried the obvious chest, no joy. I spotted a chest hidden behind some boxes, so making sure I was still hidden tried that, joy oh joy it opened and it contained the artifacts that my thieves guild mentor required. Snaffling everything in the chest I made a run for it and headed back to Balmora. Thankfully it was dark when I arrived and the guards were avoided. I had around 2000GP on me and a bounty of over 1000, so I was going to sort out that problem first. I settled down for a sleep and on awaking removed all the stolen goods on me, then headed out to find a guard, I spotted one immediately running towards me, oh-oh I thought, ok I ran towards hima nd before he could do anything I opened the dialogue first. That threw him a little and he said ok you are a wanted man you owe us 1040gp in fimes but as you gave yourself up I'll give you a 10% discount, or you can go to jail if you won't pay. So I paid the man 936GP and the bounty was wiped so was all of my profit from the trip. :moop: My next steps would be to return the artifacts to the thieves guild and then visit the House of Hlaalu ion Vivec to stump up the unpaid taxes amounting to 400 GP. Then I think I'll need to capture a few souls in my proliferation of soul gems, to sell to Sneeker for vast sums of gold.

Well I am really a Warrior when it comes down to it. I don't think wearing steel guantlets for a living helps in the thievery stakes. I am slowly building up the sneak skills by buying training when I can afford it and when I can find a trainer in those skills, however I can't neglect the other skills too much. Bashing things on teh head with various sharp and blunt bits of metal is fun, so the real thievery is a sort of sideline to be enjoyed at a later stage.
