asking for something nasty to happen. To be fair, that can be said about their entire 2013 season.

Watching the Ravens vs Broncos game from last night, the safeties were awful for the Ravens. Lewis may have been losing a step over the middle, but he always knew he could rely on Ed Reed, Pollard or one of the other athletic LB's to help cover him. Darryl Smith did not look comfortable at all in pass coverage - but that was not helped at all by the anonymous Huff and Ihedigbo who were so late on so many passes that they would lose a rail franchise in the UK.
Not everyone is Manning, and not everyone has Mannings choice of targets, but I don't see the Ravens defence being up to much this year, certainly not enough to carry the team on bad offensive days. Saying which - offensively, given the lack of available options who aren't on the wrong side of 34 and former Colts, Flacco did well to manage the Ravens into a lead.
On the Denver front - Shaun Phillips looked like a good addition last night. Dumervil was definitely a big miss, as was Champ and Vonn Miller - but otherwise they seemed to deal with the Ravens piss poor receivers fairly well and played well against the run. Once they get Champ and Vonn back it'll be interesting to see how much more complete that unit can be because they were far from terrible in such a high scoring chasing the game scenario.

Dude that intercepted then let the ball go at the 2 yd line... what a tit. I hope he gets grief for that.

Dolphin defence won that game today against Cleveland.
Weeden ended up dropping back about 60 times and was hurried more than 30 times, which is ridiculous. At one point on fourth and two the Browns called timeout and went to the sidelines and then called a play that started "ok, let's have the runningback block Cameron Wake" ... Wake practically stopped on the way to Weeden to tell the Browns he was offended. That didn't go so well for the Browns.
Toward the end of the game when it was four down run-around-and-make-a-play time, Weeden avoided a blitzing corner, stepped around the conventional rush, ran outside the pocket and looked up to find two linebackers an inch from his face.
The Dolphin offence put up the franchise's third-worst ever rushing performance, finishing with about 20 yards as a team. Passing they got better as the game went on, but Wallace was mostly a very expensive decoy.

The Browns playcalling was abysmal given their best offensive playmaker is their running back and they called that many passes in a close game.
I'm sure the Dolphins were stacking the box but sheesh, give your best guy the ball occassionally.

4th and 2 - we'll block Wake with the back. It'll be fine.

I'm not one for dogging on QB's for shit teams, but Rivers has been less than no class. To think he got a half decent frontline out of college, top of the range pass catching threats, LT, and a points scoring defence and still managed to be a complete douche about everything.
David Carr would have killed for anything like that opportunity.
Watching the game and I couldn't help thinking about Rex Grossman and Jeff Garcia. Blatantly blessed with the elite decision making skills of Sexy Rex, and currently a really piss poor arm strength like Garcia (who was at least accurate, if totally chickenshit about throwing more than 8 yards).
Watching Cutler and Tannehil throwing the ball around really highlighted Rivers declining arm speed (and telegraph motion).

Cutler to Marshall has to be one of the NFLs greatest ever love stories.

I thought the Pats and Jets released Tebow, how did he end up playing for both last night, and in black face too?

I have the pleasure of watching the recording tonight. I can't imagine the game was that bad, right?

A quote about the game : "So that drive was an overturned clear fumble, an overthrown pass, a long first down called back on a penalty and then a punt to no one."
It'll be an interesting watch, at least.

So when someone on a Patriots phone-in I listened to this morning said nobody was returning our punts, they didn't mean they were waving a fair catch, there was just nobody there to wave?

That's right - Rex said that that was because he didn't want someone to drop the wet ball, except the first time it happened, it wasn't raining.
My feeling is the first time was a screwup and the second time was done so it looked like it was done on purpose.
It was an extra-ordinary game all around.

Tannehill looked good, even if that pass to the FB/TE that went for 60 so yards would have been an interception all day long any other day.
Bit of a mixed up week as results go. Frustrated by the Vikes and Lions. Unimpressed by the Eagles defence (again), impressed once again by the Broncos.

Tannehill looked good, even if that pass to the FB/TE that went for 60 so yards would have been an interception all day long any other day. The only way Bethea intercepts that pass is if Clay doesn't actually exist and the ball goes through him like some sort of ghost. If Bethea had made any sort of contact then I'm sure Clay would have taken the exciting opportunity to drop the ball - he likes to do that - but the interception was never on and all of those yards after the catch were because Bethea made a bad decision. Was a proper fun game to watch, despite giving me a sodding heart attack for about a half hour as we tried to close out the game. In related news, Luck is ridiculous. He was helped by the likes of Dion Jordan trying some sort of limp-wristed kindergarten-playground shove to Luck, rather than doing what a defender should do when granted a free look at an NFL quarterback - namely snap him in half. Outside of that though, Luck escaped so many hits and sacks, even sneaking out of Cameron Wake's grasp at one point. His line did him few favours as the game went on and the Dolphins seemed to work out where to bring Wheeler to get pressure, but it was impressive, even if it didn't lead to too many points.
